As Wu Shaochen walked along, he found himself unable to make a move. There were people everywhere, all in disarray. Whenever a rabbit respawned, a crowd would rush over and hack away chaotically. However, the observant Wu Shaochen noticed a few groups that seemed well-trained. They cooperated seamlessly, camping near respawn points with clear division of labor. Some would each take turns landing the final blow, while others would weaken the target for one person to finish off, concentrating all resources on a single individual. Regardless of the method, it was far better than the chaotic mob. This must be the power of a guild, Wu Shaochen thought to himself.

Wu Shaochen grew anxious. He hadn't even touched a rabbit's fur yet, and at this rate, he'd be left far behind. But he didn't want to compete with others for kills. Even if he occasionally managed to snatch one by luck, it wouldn't be efficient.

"Should I head to the level two monster area?" Wu Shaochen pondered for a moment and decided to move forward. It was better to explore than to stand around doing nothing. Monsters level five and below wouldn't attack unless provoked, so as long as he didn't bother them, he'd be fine.Full novel: Toxic Ascension: The Game's Supreme Poisoner — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

At that moment, a few players waiting for the Little White Rabbit to respawn noticed Wu Shaochen heading toward the level two monster area. One short young man said, "Look, is that guy heading to the level two monster area?"

"Seems like it. Probably can't get any kills here and wants to try his luck inside. Haha, once he gets there, he'll feel despair. I had the same idea at first, but after seeing the attributes of the level two monsters, I had to scurry back," said a slightly chubby young man.

"Fatty, you've been there? Are the monsters inside really that tough?" the short young man asked.

"Yeah, they're not something players can handle right now, unless you have a group to gang up on them." Fatty replied, still a bit shaken.

After walking for a while, Wu Shaochen finally encountered different monsters: a herd of goats leisurely grazing. Looking around, there were no players in sight, and no one was attacking the goats. Wu Shaochen approached and cast Insight.

[Goat]

Level: 2

Health: 300

Physical Attack: 21

Physical Defense: 8

Speed: 7

Skill: Butt: The goat lowers its head and uses its two horns to butt the target, dealing 120% physical attack damage. Cooldown time: 5 seconds.

Seeing the goat's attributes, Wu Shaochen's mouth twitched. Now he understood why no one came here to fight. This was the attribute of a level two monster? Damn, a level two monster already had a skill? What were the game designers thinking? With these attributes, who could withstand it at this stage?

Suddenly, he remembered his talent, which required killing monsters five levels above him to increase his poison damage. He had thought it wouldn't be difficult and that he would soon become successful, marry a rich and beautiful woman, and reach the pinnacle of life. But now it seemed he was overthinking it. If monster attributes continued to grow like this, how could he farm his talent?

Unwilling to give up, Wu Shaochen continued forward, arriving at a fork in the road. Ahead lay a bamboo grove, to the left was a forest, and to the right seemed to be a beach, possibly leading to the ocean. Surprised that the game had an ocean, Wu Shaochen decided to head right. Even if he didn't fight monsters, it would be nice to see the sea.

Before long, he indeed saw a beach and the vast ocean beyond.

The scenery was beautiful. Was this really a game? It felt like a real place. Feeling the sea breeze, Wu Shaochen spread his arms and took a deep breath, saying, "In the real world, such fresh air is long gone." This game completely immersed him.

"Whoa, what a huge crab!" Wu Shaochen's peripheral vision caught a glimpse of a crab the size of a washbasin emerging from the sand, waving its massive claws as it scuttled sideways toward him.

Wu Shaochen cast Insight and then ran faster than a rabbit.

[Giant Crab]

Level: 4

Health: 800

Physical Attack: 45

Physical Defense: 15

Speed: 8

Skill: Double Claw Strike: Swings its two giant claws to deal two consecutive hits of 70% physical damage each. Cooldown time: 10 seconds.

After running a good distance, Wu Shaochen looked back at the crab, still shaken, and muttered, "Damn developers, are you sure this game is meant for humans? A single crab can easily kill a person. How is anyone supposed to survive?"

Sigh, what to do? It seemed he had no choice but to return and compete with others for rabbits.

Just as Wu Shaochen was about to leave, he suddenly saw a massive turtle crawling slowly on the beach. Out of curiosity, he cast Insight.

[Sea Turtle]

Level: 5

Health: 1800

Physical Attack: 50

Physical Defense: 40

Speed: 3

Skill: Thorn Shield: Blocks the next attack and returns 50% of the attack damage to the attacker. Cooldown time: 10 seconds.

Looking at the turtle's attributes, most people would undoubtedly turn and run without hesitation. It was a typical high-defense, high-health monster with 40 points of defense and 1800 health. Even at higher levels, no one would want to fight such a monster due to the low rewards.

However, at this moment, Wu Shaochen's eyes gleamed with an inexplicable light. Indeed, the turtle's attributes were an insurmountable obstacle for all level 0 players. With 40 points of defense, no one could break through its defense. But Wu Shaochen's damage wasn't dependent on attack power, and what caught his attention was the turtle's speed. With a speed of 3, he could kite it.

Even if it hit him once, with only 50 attack points, it couldn't kill him instantly, as he had 6 points of defense, reducing the damage to 44 points. Its only skill was useless against him since his attacks wouldn't break its defense, and even if it returned all the damage, it wouldn't matter. His poison damage was 60 points per minute, and without the turtle being able to heal, he could poison it to death in 30 minutes. In 30 minutes, he might not even manage to snag a single rabbit back at the village.

Most importantly, he was currently level 0, and the turtle's level was exactly five levels higher, allowing him to trigger his talent traits. Haha, let's do this!

Determined, Wu Shaochen quickly approached the turtle. A level 5 turtle wouldn't actively attack players, so Wu Shaochen walked up to it and swung his wooden sword at its shell.

-1

-1

A red -1 appeared above the turtle's head, indicating an unbreakable defense that forced a single point of damage. Immediately after, a white -1 representing true damage also appeared above the turtle's head.

The turtle was slow-moving but quick to react. After Wu Shaochen struck it once, it extended its head and bit him.

-44

With only 50 health, Wu Shaochen was left with a sliver of health, scaring him into running away. This was where his speed advantage came into play. The turtle slowly pursued him but could only watch as Wu Shaochen grew farther away, while white -1s continued to appear above its head. Its health bar was decreasing at an extremely slow pace.

After running a good distance, Wu Shaochen turned back to the slowly pursuing turtle and taunted, "Come on, chase me."

The poor turtle could only drag its slow pace, persistently following Wu Shaochen step by step.

Ten seconds later, Wu Shaochen, while slowly regenerating 1 point of health per second, continued to taunt the turtle. In Oracle, both characters and monsters were the same; after 10 seconds without attacking or being attacked, they were considered out of combat, and health would slowly regenerate at 1% per second. With health below 100, it defaulted to 1 point per second. Without potions, this was the only way to heal.

And so, Wu Shaochen engaged in a war of attrition with the turtle using this rogue tactic. He timed it perfectly, going in to strike just before the poison duration ended, then retreating. The 60-second poison duration was more than enough for him to fully heal before each strike.
