WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT
Ding!
A system notification suddenly appeared before every player in Ascension Online.
System: Player ***** has successfully cleared the Hidden Dungeon — "The Secret Root Chamber."
A second notification immediately followed.
System: Hidden Dungeon Solo Clear confirmed.
Player ***** has received a Golden Chest and a [Guild Order].
For several seconds, the world seemed to fall silent.
Then—
BOOM.
The entire World Chat exploded.
Dark Wing: FUCK THIS! I can't even kill a Level 8 Wild Boar, and someone just solo-cleared a hidden dungeon?!
Mr. Handsome: Wait, wait, wait. Where the hell is this hidden dungeon?!
PokeMeOn: A Guild Order?!
PokeMeOn: So that's TWO Guild Orders in one day! One from Obsidian Crown and another from this hidden dungeon!
IronFist88: Whoever that player is, recruit him before he joins another guild.
MoonlitRose: Does anyone know where the Secret Root Chamber is located?
SwordSaint: Probably somewhere near a high-level area. There's no way a Level 1–5 player can enter a dungeon meant for Level 8+.
TinyMage: That's not the point! The announcement says SOLO CLEAR.
GrimDealer: Solo? As in ONE PLAYER?
IronFist88: Unless the system announcement is lying, yes.
LuckyCat: Maybe the dungeon isn't actually difficult.
Dark Wing: Then YOU go find it and clear it.
LuckyCat: ...I suddenly remembered I have something to do.
The chat immediately filled with laughter and insults. But beneath the jokes, one thing was becoming increasingly obvious.
Players wanted information.
NightOwl:
How did the player even discover it?
ArcaneScholar:
The important question is whether the Guild Order is guaranteed from the first clear.
That message immediately attracted dozens of replies.
Mr. Handsome:
Someone PLEASE tell me where it is before the big guilds find it.
The discussion continued to spiral. Some players speculated that the dungeon was hidden beneath a forest.
Others believed it was inside an abandoned mine. A few even claimed that the dungeon entrance could only be discovered by completing a hidden quest.
No one actually knew.
And that uncertainty only made the announcement more explosive. Two Guild Orders had appeared in a single day. One had been obtained by a powerful party led by Obsidian Crown.
The other had been obtained by a completely unknown player who had somehow discovered and solo-cleared a Hidden Dungeon.
For the average player, it was almost unbelievable. For the major guilds, however, it was a warning.
OBSIDIAN CROWN
Inside the temporary headquarters of Obsidian Crown, the atmosphere was completely different. Only moments ago, Malakai and his team had been celebrating their first Guild Order.
Their laughter had filled the room.
Their achievement had placed them among the first players in the world to obtain the precious item.
But then the announcement appeared.
The celebration immediately came to a halt.
Everyone stared at the floating system notification.
System: Player ***** has successfully cleared the Hidden Dungeon — "The Secret Root Chamber."
Silence.
One of the members slowly lowered the weapon he had been holding.
"Another Guild Order..."
"And from a hidden dungeon."
"Boss..."
Malakai remained silent. His crimson eyes stayed fixed on the system message.
Finally, one of his teammates spoke.
"Do you think it's the same player?"
Malakai turned toward him.
"The same player as who?"
"Solus."
The room became quiet again. One member immediately shook his head.
"Probably not."
"Why?"
"Because Solus didn't hide his name."
He crossed his arms.
"That player completed a public dungeon and allowed the system to announce his identity. Whoever cleared this hidden dungeon deliberately concealed theirs."
Another member nodded.
"Besides, the timing doesn't make sense."
"Exactly."
He pointed toward the announcement.
"Solus was already inside his dungeon earlier. Unless he somehow cleared one dungeon, entered another hidden dungeon, and solo-cleared it before anyone noticed..."
He paused.
"...there's no way."
"Unless..."
"What?"
"Unless Solus is stronger than we thought."
The suggestion immediately drew a few skeptical looks. One of them scoffed.
"Solus is only a solo player."
"And?"
"And solo players have limits."
He leaned back.
"They have no dedicated tank, no healer, no support, no coordinated skill rotations. Even if he's talented, there's only so much one person can accomplish."
Another member nodded.
"Especially against a hidden dungeon."
"Exactly."
A different player suddenly spoke.
"But then who is this person?"
Nobody answered. That was the problem. They knew nothing.
Someone had entered a dungeon that nobody else seemed to know existed and walked out alone.
One of the members looked at Malakai.
"Could it be one of the major guilds testing something?"
"Impossible," another immediately replied.
"If a major guild had cleared it, they would have announced themselves. A Guild Order is too valuable to hide."
"Then maybe a hidden expert?"
"At this stage of the game?"
The room fell silent again. Malakai finally sighed.
"There are too many possibilities."
He stood up and looked toward the distant streets visible through the headquarters window.
"Don't waste time chasing a ghost."
"But Boss—"
"We don't even know who that player is."
Malakai turned around.
"And we don't know where the dungeon is."
He paused.
"So there is nothing useful to investigate."
One of his teammates still looked unconvinced.
"What about Solus?"
Malakai's expression hardened slightly.
"Solus is interesting."
Everyone looked at him.
"But he's still a solo player."
He calmly continued.
"Whatever strength he has, staying alone will eventually limit him."
"Eventually, he'll need resources. Information. Equipment. A party. A guild."
A faint smile appeared on Malakai's face.
"When that happens, he'll reveal himself."
"And when he does?"
Malakai's eyes narrowed.
"Then we'll know whether he's worth recruiting."
Another member laughed.
"Or whether he's someone we should crush before he becomes a threat."
Malakai didn't answer immediately. He simply looked back at the system announcement. A player had just solo-cleared a hidden dungeon.
It was an impressive achievement. But to him, it was still only the beginning.
"Enough."
He turned toward the exit.
"We have our Guild Order."
The others followed.
"Let's head to Mistveil Hall."
One of the members raised an eyebrow.
"Already?"
"Of course."
Malakai's expression became serious.
"We need to register the guild and establish our Guild Hall before someone else takes the best location."
He glanced at the Guild Order inside his inventory.
"This is our opportunity."
The others nodded. As they left, Malakai quietly clenched his fist.
'With this achievement... perhaps Father will finally acknowledge me.'
For the first time since entering Ascension Online, Malakai felt that he had finally taken a step toward proving himself.
He would not allow anyone to take that away from him.
DEEP WITHIN THE SECRET ROOT CHAMBER
Far away from Mistveil Outpost, the situation was entirely different. Solus was still standing inside the ruined chamber.
His chest rose and fell rapidly. His breathing was ragged. His spear remained firmly planted against the ground, supporting his exhausted body.
In front of him lay the enormous corpse of Ghorak, the Stonehide Chieftain.
The creature that had nearly crushed him. The creature that had forced him to use every advantage he possessed.
The creature that, moments ago, had seemed impossible to defeat.
Solus stared at the corpse in disbelief.
"I... actually killed it."
His voice was barely above a whisper.
He looked down at his trembling hands.
For a moment, he simply stood there.
Then—
Ding!
A brilliant system notification appeared.
System: Congratulations!
You have achieved the First Kill of the Level 8 Elite Boss — Ghorak, the Stonehide Chieftain!
Solus's eyes widened. Another notification appeared.
System: First-Kill Reward activated!
A strange light gathered in front of him.
Black particles swirled through the air, intertwined with golden sparks.
Slowly, the light condensed into a treasure chest.
It was unlike any ordinary chest he had seen before. The exterior was pitch black. Golden patterns crawled across its surface like ancient runes.
Solus approached cautiously.
"A Golden Chest..."
He swallowed. His heartbeat began to quicken. This was his first Elite Boss. His first hidden dungeon.
And now—
his first First-Kill Reward.
He reached out.
The moment his fingers touched the chest—
Click.
The lid opened.
Inside were two objects. Solus stared. His eyes widened. The first item immediately caught his attention.
It was a cloak.
Pitch black.
Yet strangely, the darkness surrounding it seemed deeper than the shadows of the dungeon itself.
Golden threads were woven through its edges, forming faint ancient patterns.
Solus carefully lifted it.
A system window appeared.
[Veil of the Nameless]
Tier: Legendary
Type: Growth-Type Cloak
Level: 1
Binding: Soul-Bound
Growth: Evolvable
A pitch-black cloak seemingly woven from darkness and fragments of the ancient Blackroots.
The moment it touches the player's body, its existence becomes difficult to perceive.
Solus slowly read the description.
Then his eyes widened further.
Passive — [Nameless]
Completely masks the wearer's information from ordinary identification abilities.
Other players and most NPCs cannot see:
- True Name
- Level
- Race
- Class
- Guild
- Titles
- Equipment Information
- Attributes
- Skill Information
Instead, the cloak allows the wearer to display a false identity.
Solus froze.
He continued reading.
Unique Effect — [False Identity]
The wearer may create a separate identity.
The created identity can possess:
- A different name
- Different race appearance
- Different level appearance
- Different class appearance
- Different guild affiliation
- Customized basic information
The false identity does not change the player's actual attributes or abilities.
To ordinary players and NPCs, however, the false identity appears completely legitimate.
Restriction: Higher-tier identification, divine detection, or abilities specifically capable of penetrating Legendary concealment may reveal inconsistencies.
Solus didn't move.
He simply stared at the description.
"...What?"
He reread it.
Then again. His breathing gradually slowed. A strange realization began forming in his mind.
This wasn't simply a cloak. It wasn't merely defensive equipment. It was an identity.
A second existence.
A way to walk through the world without revealing who he truly was.
Solus slowly smiled.
"Is this... the kind of reward everyone gets for a first clear?"
He immediately shook his head.
"No."
That couldn't be right.
A Legendary, Growth-Type item as a first-clear reward?
Even if this was his first dungeon, Solus knew enough about the game to understand how absurd the item was.
And the fact that it was Soul-Bound made it even more valuable.
He carefully folded the cloak.
For now, he decided not to equip it. There were too many unknowns. Instead, he stored it safely inside his inventory.
His eyes then moved to the second item.
A thick, ancient book.
Its cover was worn and cracked, with faint traces of metallic dust embedded into the leather.
[Book of Ancient Forging]
Tier: Rare → Growth-Type Skill Book
Type: Forging Knowledge
A heavily worn blacksmithing manual recovered from Ghorak's throne.
Unlike ordinary crafting manuals, this book contains techniques that utilize monster materials, rare ores, and dungeon resources.
Solus's eyes immediately brightened.
He opened the book.
The pages were filled with diagrams of weapons, armor, ores, monster parts, and strange forging techniques.
Then the system displayed its effects.
Upon Learning:
[Ancient Forging]
The user gains knowledge of:
- Basic Weapon Forging
- Armor Reinforcement
- Monster-Material Processing
- Ore Purification
- Equipment Enhancement
- Blackroot Ore Forging
- Weapon Recasting
- Material Fusion
Then came the most important part.
Special Effect — [Adaptive Forging]
The skill's potential increases as the user discovers higher-grade materials and forging techniques.
Solus's expression became serious.
Unlike the cloak, this wasn't something that merely gave him an advantage.
It gave him knowledge.
Knowledge that could grow with him.
And considering the materials he had already gathered from the Blackroots Mine...
this skill could become extremely valuable.
He opened the book. The moment his fingers touched the first page—
Ding!
System: You have obtained a Growth-Type Forging Skill.
Another notification followed.
System: Compatibility detected.
Solus blinked.
System: The user's unique growth potential has been recognized.
System: [Ancient Forging] has been added to the Skill Panel.
The ancient book dissolved into countless particles of light. They flowed directly into Solus's body.
For a brief moment, his mind was flooded with unfamiliar knowledge.
The shape of metal. The temperature required for different ores. The correct way to process monster materials. The weaknesses of poorly forged weapons.
The principles behind reinforcement and recasting. It lasted only a few seconds.
Then everything became clear.
Solus slowly exhaled.
"So that's... forging."
He looked toward his spear. For the first time, he didn't see it as merely a weapon. He saw its structure.
Its material.
Its weaknesses.
Its potential.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"This might actually be useful."
But before he could examine his new skill further—
Ding!
Another system notification appeared.
Solus looked up.
HIDDEN FIRST-KILL BONUS
System: Hidden condition fulfilled.
System: Player has solo defeated a Hidden Elite Boss.
System: Hidden achievement unlocked.
A new panel appeared.
[Challenger of the Stonehide]
Effect:
When fighting monsters or bosses above the user's level, the player receives a small increase to combat adaptability.
Special Note:
This achievement is unique to the first player who fulfills the condition.
Solus stared at the achievement.
Then he let out a tired laugh.
"So I got a title too..."
He sat down against one of the chamber walls. Only now, after everything was over, did the exhaustion truly hit him.
His entire body ached.
His clothes were torn.
His weapon had nearly broken.
He had come dangerously close to death more than once.
Yet somehow he had won.
Solus looked at the three rewards before him. A Legendary cloak capable of creating an entirely new identity.
A Growth-Type forging skill that could evolve alongside him.
And a unique achievement that would make him more adaptable against stronger enemies.
He lowered his head.
The world still knew almost nothing about him. And perhaps that was exactly how he wanted it.
The corners of Solus's mouth slowly curved upward. He looked at the black cloak inside his inventory.
If I ever need to reveal myself...
His eyes narrowed. I can reveal someone else instead.
The world had just celebrated the birth of another Guild.
Players were already searching for the mysterious Hidden Dungeon.
Major guilds were beginning to compete for territory and influence.
And somewhere within the darkness beneath Mistveil a sixteen-year-old boy had unknowingly obtained the perfect tool to remain invisible.
Ghorak's defeat had given Solus more than loot.
It had given him freedom.
A weapon with which to forge his future.
And an identity the world would never know belonged to him.
For now, Solus was still just Solus.
But someday...
the world would meet the person hidden behind the Veil of the Nameless.
