Qi Yu had transmigrated into a rose, a variety known by the cultivar name “Black Magic,” deeply favored by rose enthusiasts for its distinctive color and texture.
“System, what’s going on? Didn’t you say I’d be completing a mission? How am I supposed to do anything looking like this!” Qi Yu panicked inwardly, demanding answers from the system.
007 hadn’t expected this either. It had assumed its energy would be enough for Qi Yu to travel through time and space and then choose a suitable host body. But its calculations had been wrong, and in that moment of crisis, it had no choice but to pick this rose.
Still, to maintain its mysterious and mighty image, 007 certainly wasn’t going to tell Qi Yu the truth.
“Ah-Yu, don’t panic. There’s a reason I had you possess a rose. But first, take a look at the information.” 007 spoke with the air of a mystic, all solemn and knowing, while simultaneously uploading the data on this world into Qi Yu’s mind.
As it turned out, the world Qi Yu now found himself in was based on a book.
The male lead was the heir of the Xiao Group in S City, and the female lead was an ordinary, unremarkable Cinderella. The two met by chance in an accident, and their story developed from acquaintances into soulmates deeply in love.
One of the most important villains in the story was named Gu Yuheng, a man obsessed with roses. Later, over some trivial matter that displeased him, he moved against the male lead’s company, only to suffer the consequences in the end: his career utterly destroyed, he died in a car crash.
“Then what does any of that have to do with me turning into a rose?” Qi Yu didn’t understand.
“Well… um, ah, right! You’ll only have a chance to complete the mission if you stay by Gu Yuheng’s side!” 007 would never admit this was its own mistake otherwise, how could it keep its host’s trust?
A system had an image to maintain, after all!
At 007’s mention of the mission, Qi Yu finally remembered it had never told him what he was supposed to do. Not that he could do anything in his current state anyway.
“Then you still haven’t told me what the mission is!”
“To bring the male and female leads together, of course!” 007 replied.
Bring the leads together?
“But aren’t they going to end up together anyway? Why would I need to matchmake them? And if that’s the case, shouldn’t I have possessed someone near the male and female leads instead?”
Qi Yu’s rapid-fire questions left 007 with no room to fight back.
“Just do as I say, okay?” With that, 007 went silent, playing dead no matter how Qi Yu pressed it.
In truth, the male and female leads’ meeting was supposed to be quietly orchestrated by the Heavenly Dao. Once the two got together, the Heavenly Dao would gain a certain amount of world energy to expand itself.
The system’s mission was simply to bring the leads together ahead of schedule, claiming that energy before the Heavenly Dao could.
Tap, tap, tap,
Someone was approaching outside the door, the footsteps growing more distinct. Qi Yu started, falling abruptly silent. Only after a good while did he remember that he and the system were conversing in the mental realm, invisible to outsiders.
The sound drew closer to the bedroom, nearer and nearer then suddenly, the footsteps stopped.
With a creak, the door opened.
The man who entered wore a black suit that looked expensive at a glance, his cufflinks set with understated rose-shaped gemstones. Qi Yu would bet anything that they were top-tier jewels, priceless and unobtainable on any market.
The man had a pair of cold, sharp phoenix eyes, a high-bridged nose, thin lips even his jet-black hair seemed to glint with frost.
This man was not to be trifled with.
That was Qi Yu’s verdict on him.
But what happened next left him utterly dumbfounded.
The man closed the door, glanced in his direction, and the corners of his mouth suddenly curved into a gentle smile, all the coldness about him receding.
“Little Rose, I’m home.”
