Zuo Zhu said it was not that difficult, after all, Demon Huo Fu at night was just a glutton who only knew how to eat people.
But she did not dare speak up.
The Male Lead seemed like two different personalities by day and by night, and his daytime temperament was completely unpredictable.
At night, Demon Huo Fu was truly ruthless, not caring at all about appearances.
Just thinking about it, every time he ate someone, that gaping mouth destroyed his handsome face in all sorts of ways, and who could endure that?
No wonder that comic flopped back then. It did not cater to male readers with a harem, instead eating beautiful women. It also did not cater to female readers, constantly breaking appearances.
Zuo Zhu did not dare be too audacious. The excuse she used last night would be nothing more than fooling a simpleton if used on Huo Fu during the day. If he, angered by the nighttime persona, struck her down with one hand, she would not even have a place to cry.
Huo Fu, however, did not care whether the person in front of him had been eaten.
Even though he restrained Demon Huo Fu at night from randomly eating people, he would not stop those with ill intentions from voluntarily presenting themselves. After all, when there is nothing to eat, the nighttime Huo Fu gets hungry, and the daytime Huo Fu also feels uncomfortable.
Keeping this person around was not bad. Whenever the nighttime version was too hungry, she could be a little snack.
Zuo Zhu kept playing innocent and pure while Huo Fu leisurely stood up.
“Let us go.”
Zuo Zhu blinked. “Where?”
Huo Fu said softly, “Aren’t you trying to lose weight? Should you not get up early and run ten or so kilometers?”
Ten kilometers?
Zuo Zhu took a deep breath. This was basically a death sentence.
Sure enough, Huo Fu was still angry.
She cautiously looked at him. “Shall we eat breakfast first?”
As soon as she said this, Huo Fu’s expression shifted, a half-smile appearing on his face as he looked at her. “Or should I feed you that piece of pork you took out yesterday?”
Zuo Zhu scrambled up. “No. I will go run now.”
She obediently followed Huo Fu to the abandoned playground in the mountain village.
This used to be a primary school, but it had long been deserted.
Although it was called a playground, it was only a relatively flat dirt area, vastly different from the plastic tracks Zuo Zhu remembered in school.
Under Huo Fu’s deathly gaze, Zuo Zhu started running laps, wanting to cry but having no tears.
The undeniable presence on her chest only added to her burden, making each lap harder and more painful.
Zuo Zhu abandoned the gratitude she felt yesterday and began cursing Brother Wei furiously.
Damn it. You have such a perfect body, enjoying the view yourself. Have you ever thought how inconvenient it is for women?
On the deserted playground were a few old-fashioned fitness machines, the kind commonly seen in parks. Huo Fu stood on one, one foot on each pedal, slowly swinging back and forth.
The key was that these machines had probably been broken for years, creaking with every movement.
Every time Zuo Zhu ran past him, she could feel his eyes enjoying other people’s suffering.
She endured it.
Once she endured humiliation and persevered for a few more months, Huo Fu, who had eaten so many people, would be attacked by a few powerful Ghost Catchers and have his soul shattered.
“Zuo Zhu?” someone called from the roadside, stopping her mid-run.
Zuo Zhu paused and saw a man and a woman standing there.
She still retained the original owner’s memory, knowing the man was Lin Tianming and the woman Liu Minmin. They were college students who had come with the original owner.
A common trope in horror films involved a group of soon-to-graduate students planning a graduation trip and venturing into the mountains seeking thrills.
The original owner was among them. Their group of seven or eight arrived at this remote village, encountering strange occurrences almost immediately.
First, someone saw a water ghost crawling by the river late at night. Later, someone awoke to find a hanging ghost on the roof. Some even went missing, leaving only five of them.
Yesterday, while trying to escape the village, they encountered a ghostly maze and could not get out or back.
Just then, Huo Fu appeared, saving them and bringing them back to the village.
Although everyone knew Huo Fu was a local, his looks were too refined, his aura unlike that of a villager. When he saved them yesterday, his methods were exceptional, leaving everyone impressed.
The original owner, fearing for her life, realized that if she did not do something, she might be next. She sneaked to Huo Fu’s home that night, hoping to use her body to seek protection.
“Everyone is trying to escape, and you are so carefree, getting up to run so early,” Liu Minmin scolded, displeased. “Are you not afraid you might be next?”
Zuo Zhu stood tall, righteous. “If I do not keep training, how could I have such a good figure? You are lucky to have flat terrain with nothing to train. Do not drag me down with you.”
Liu Minmin nearly choked. If Lin Tianming had not pulled her back, she would have rushed forward to argue.
Lin Tianming did not pay attention to Zuo Zhu running so early. His gaze landed on Huo Fu, and his eyes lit up. “Brother Huo, do you know how we can leave here?”
Huo Fu slowly walked over. “I do not know.”
Lin Tianming’s face fell, his anxiety clear after experiencing these strange events.
Liu Minmin also looked disappointed but felt more shy than anything, having never seen such a handsome man. Though not wealthy, his ghost-catching skills were impressive.
Seeing their disappointed expressions, Zuo Zhu sneered inwardly.
The person in front of them is the most powerful ghost. He does not want you to leave, so how could you?
Huo Fu, as if sensing her thoughts, glanced at her. “Not running anymore?”
Zuo Zhu said nothing.
She forced a smile. “I will keep going.”
She puffed along, while Liu Minmin sensed something and asked. “Brother Huo, since when did your relationship with her become so close?”
She had always looked down on Zuo Zhu. Her figure and looks made her seem frivolous. In school, Zuo Zhu exploited boys’ affections for personal gain, and here, too, she was selfish and scared of death.
Liu Minmin believed someone like Zuo Zhu would cling to Huo Fu once she saw his abilities.
Huo Fu did not answer.
Liu Minmin was not surprised. She had noticed yesterday that Huo Fu did not usually engage with people. Yet today he spoke to Zuo Zhu and even accompanied her running.
Jealousy gnawed at Liu Minmin, wondering if Zuo Zhu had seduced Huo Fu first. After all, no man could resist her charm.
Lin Tianming, on the other hand, did not have such petty thoughts. He was concerned for his group’s safety, so he cautiously asked Huo Fu. “Brother Huo, could you move over and sleep with us tonight? It is too strange here. We are all a bit scared.”
After a long pause, long enough for Lin Tianming to think Huo Fu was declining, Huo Fu finally nodded.
Relieved, Lin Tianming said, “Then we will not disturb you. We will prepare a room.”
Huo Fu looked at Zuo Zhu, exhausted from running. “No need. I will stay at her place.”
“What?” Liu Minmin nearly jumped out of her skin, itching to ask why.
Lin Tianming, initially startled, then smiled knowingly, controlling Liu Minmin. “Then no need to prepare another room. Brother Huo, you can just go there tonight.”
Liu Minmin was dragged away, still fuming.
Huo Fu had no reaction to Lin Tianming’s meaningful smile.
He wanted to sleep at Zuo Zhu’s place simply because the nighttime Huo Fu preferred having his food nearby.
