Yang Qingqing nodded coldly and didn’t go over to them.

She looked around for a moment and then walked toward Yun Ting.

“Why are you only just here? I’m about to leave,” Yun Ting mumbled after finishing the last bite of her meal.Full novel: Transmigrated into a 1970s Novel: Watching the Drama Unfold and Enjoying the Gossip — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Had something to do, got delayed,” Yang Qingqing replied, going to order a plate of dumplings—there was no more braised pork left.

Yun Ting thought, since there wasn’t anything else to do, she might as well wait for Yang Qingqing.

“If you have something to do, you can go ahead; no need to wait for me.”

“Nothing else. Just going to the post office to send a letter and see if any packages have arrived,” Yun Ting said, idly watching the busy pedestrians outside.

Lu Jiayan kept glancing toward Yang Qingqing, wanting to approach but hesitating. Yun Ting noticed and mischievously said, “Hey, Yang Qingqing, Lu Jiayan keeps looking your way!”

Yang Qingqing paused but kept eating her dumplings casually. “How do you know he’s looking at me? What if it’s you he’s looking at?”

“Pfft… haha… do I look that dumb?” Yun Ting laughed.

Yang Qingqing smiled faintly, not continuing the topic, quickly finished her dumplings, and the two of them left together.

Lu Jiayan and Zhou Yang followed. “Hey, Yun and Yang, where are you going? Come with us!”

“I’m going to the post office…”

“Perfect, we need to pick up a package too!”

Throughout the walk, Zhou Yang chattered nonstop, while Lu Jiayan stayed beside Yang Qingqing, occasionally speaking, though she remained cold and distant.

Yun Ting listened to Zhou Yang talking while sneakily glancing at the two of them. Tsk… unrequited love at its finest! Lu Jiayan’s path to win her is going to be long.

Yang Qingqing was only accompanying Yun Ting. In this world, her family would never send her packages; she had left home in a family feud.

At the post office, Yun Ting gave her name, and the clerk brought out a huge package. Knowing her mother, the letter was likely inside the package—she wouldn’t waste a stamp.

Lu Jiayan and Zhou Yang each had a package too, but combined, theirs weren’t as big as Yun Ting’s.

Both young men gallantly helped Yun Ting carry her package.

“Ah! Thank you so much, Zhou and Lu! I probably couldn’t have carried this myself! You’re such kind people!”

“You’re truly helpful comrades,” she added, not just thanking them but subtly giving them a ‘good person card.’

Yang Qingqing watched her and couldn’t help but smile faintly. Sometimes she envied Yun Ting’s personality—always cheerful, full of energy, like a little sun.

In her previous world, Yang Qingqing was a rich girl with no genuine friends, which had made her cold and distant. Now, encountering someone like Yun Ting drew her in, making her want to get closer. Perhaps what you lack most is what you desire the most.

At the tractor area that morning, many people were already gathered. Yun Ting’s huge package caused quite a stir.

“Wow, these educated youths have such big packages sent from home! Wonder what’s inside…”

“Hey, boys, what goodies did your family send?” Aunt Li asked Zhou Yang, noticing his friendly, easy-going expression.

“Ma’am, this big package is Yun Ting’s, not mine. We only got some old clothes from home,” Zhou Yang explained, knowing what was appropriate to say.

“This package of mine has just quilts and jackets. I heard winters here get really cold, so my mom prepared them early,” Yun Ting explained.

Hearing quilts and jackets, the gossip lost interest and nodded in understanding.

“Little Yun, your family really thought of everything! Winters here are freezing!” Aunt Meihua laughed.

Because the package was so big, Yun Ting had paid a little extra postage. People who might have felt petty before had nothing more to say.

Aunt Meihua silently nodded. Little Yun was clever and capable—what could the other women say? Idle gossip, that’s all.

Back in the village, Zhou Yang helped her carry the large package, while she helped him with his small one. Later, she gave Zhou Yang a handful of red dates to share with Lu Jiayan.

They didn’t notice a new bicycle parked in the yard—Yin Jiao had bought it. Today, it caused quite a stir in the village.

In this era, a Phoenix-brand bicycle was like a BMW in the future. Only the team leader’s family had one, given by his eldest son.

He valued it highly and wouldn’t lend it unless it was urgent.

“Yun Ting, this package is huge! What did your family send?” Wang Xue asked, eyes flashing.

The situation was slightly awkward. Yun Ting smiled. “Nothing special, just quilts and jackets for winter. That’s why it looks so big.”

Back in her room, she closed the door. Wang Xue was becoming increasingly inconsiderate—over time, people’s true colors reveal themselves.

Yang Qingqing observed all this and mentally weighed things. Originally, she thought they were from the same place and could lend a hand if needed, but this person’s character seemed… questionable.

Everyone went to their rooms, and no one spoke further. Wang Xue secretly seethed—these people brought back so much, yet didn’t even share. Too stingy.

Yun Ting didn’t care; she happily began unpacking.

The package indeed contained thick quilts, a mattress, and two sets of padded jackets—likely costing a lot of cotton and effort at home. She planned to see if the village had local products she could send back in return for their kindness.

There was also a can of malted milk, two cans of canned oranges, and a pair of work gloves.

Yun Ting opened a letter. Her mother wrote that this package was temporary; winter was still far off, and more would be sent later.

The malted milk was to drink when tired from work, the canned oranges were for treats, and the gloves were from her eldest sister to protect her delicate hands while working.

Her mother also advised her not to overwork, to buy what she wanted, and promised to send money if needed. Being so far from home, she had to take care of herself.

Finally, her mother asked about the fine rice and apples Yun Ting had left at home, warning her not to frequent the black market—it was dangerous for a young girl.

Every word was filled with concern and love. Yun Ting’s heart warmed. She carefully folded the letter and placed it in her box.

After so many years, someone finally cared about her again. How wonderful…
