8:00 p.m.
The number of zombies roaming the streets was steadily increasing. There were even quite a few wandering along the corridors of the apartment building.
As Bai Zixi sat in the living room, she could occasionally hear the zombies growling outside the door, accompanied by the sound of them banging against it.
Before long, everything would return to silence. In the early stages of the apocalypse, zombies were attracted by smells and sounds before launching attacks. They were constantly hungry, and the scent of blood could send them into a frenzy.
Seeing Bai Zixi sitting quietly to one side, Zhu Rui assumed she was frightened. He declared righteously, “Zixi, don’t be afraid. I won’t let those disgusting zombies lay a finger on you.”
Bai Zixi looked at him with her beautiful eyes and deliberately put on a weak, vulnerable expression.
“Really? Will you protect me forever?”
Zhu Rui wore an expression that practically screamed, I’m reliable! He nodded firmly.
“Of course.”

Hearing his assurance, Bai Zixi felt a little touched. Once she became stronger, she would definitely make sure he enjoyed a comfortable life with plenty of good food and drink.
“Something’s wrong! The boss has a fever!”
Mo Yanfeng hurried out of Yan Shaoyu’s room in a panic.
Everyone immediately stood up and rushed into the room to check on their boss.
Yu Haoran was giving the unconscious Yan Shaoyu some fever-reducing medicine, his face filled with concern.
“How is he?” Han Shuo asked worriedly.
“His fever hasn’t gone down yet. He’s still unconscious,” Yu Haoran answered honestly.
Just then, Yan Shaoyu’s phone rang.
With the signal being so poor lately, it was surprising that a call could even get through.
Yu Haoran picked up the phone as though it were a hot potato and tossed it to Han Shuo. Han Shuo quickly passed it to Zhu Rui.
Bai Zixi noticed that Zhu Rui looked rather strange. Was the person on the other end of the phone really that terrifying?
She casually reached out, took the phone from his hand, and answered it.
A deep, magnetic voice came through the receiver.
“Shaoyu, how are things on your end?”
The man’s voice was incredibly pleasant to listen to. Bai Zixi was momentarily captivated and forgot what she was supposed to say.
Yu Haoran and the others were frantically gesturing at her, urging her to answer. Their faces were filled with anxiety and nervousness.
“Um… The captain has fallen asleep. Everything is fine here.”
She answered softly, trying to figure out who the caller was.
She remembered them mentioning that Yan Shaoyu had two older brothers in the imperial capital. Could this person be one of them?
The deep voice sounded again.
“Tell him to return as soon as possible. Use the newly developed resort owned by the Yan family as our base.”
Before he could finish speaking, the signal suddenly cut out.
Bai Zixi glanced at the disconnected phone. With a completely calm expression, she placed it back on the bedside table.
…
“How is he? What did your third brother say?”
Yan’s father turned toward Yan Shaochen, his face full of concern.
Yan Shaochen’s brows furrowed slightly, and displeasure spread across his handsome face.
It was already past eight in the evening. Asleep? A woman?
He then replied calmly, “He’s fine, Father. There’s no need to worry.”
Yan Shaohua couldn’t help asking, “Didn’t he say where he was?”
Once they had finished organizing the base on their end, they could send someone to pick up their third brother.
“Do you think he isn’t capable of making his own way back?”
Yan Shaochen’s expression turned stern. His voice carried an unmistakable authority that made it difficult for anyone to argue with him.
Seeing that no one else had anything to say, Yan Shaochen stood up and left the conference room.
Only after he had left did Yan Shaohua speak again.
“Dad, why didn’t you say something to help me just now? Don’t you want him to send someone to pick up our third brother?”
Yan’s father sighed.
“That boy is becoming more and more domineering. We raised him from childhood to become the family’s successor, but now that he’s grown capable and powerful, he’s lost some of his warmth and consideration for others. Sigh!”
He couldn’t help worrying about his eldest son’s future. With that kind of personality, what girl would ever be willing to marry him?
Aside from his handsome face, there wasn’t much else to recommend him!
If his mother were still alive, perhaps she wouldn’t have allowed him to turn out this way.
Still, at least his second and third sons were relatively normal. Thinking about that made Yan’s father feel a little better.
Yan Shaohua sighed along with him.
Other people were afraid of their fathers, but he was afraid of his eldest brother.
Wasn’t that embarrassing?
