Bang!

Jiang Mian slammed the door shut, cutting off Wu Guihua’s shrill laughter and the stinking pile of garbage outside.

The moment she turned around, she switched modes seamlessly—like a wounded little swallow, she dove straight into Huo Jingchuan’s arms.Full novel: Transmigrated into the 70’s: Adorable Wife Wants to Live as a Widow, Commander Goes Crazy — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Brother Jingchuan… wuwuwu…”

She buried her face in the front of his military shirt, tears appearing on cue and quickly soaking a small patch of fabric on his chest.

Her shoulders shook as she sobbed, her voice choked with endless grievance.

“They bullied me… that Sister-in-law Wu called me an enemy agent, said I’m a fox spirit, even said I’d bring you bad luck and get you killed… wuwuwu… I just want to take good care of you—why are they smearing me like this…”

Huo Jingchuan lowered his head, looking at the little woman crying as if her heart had been torn apart.

Even though he knew perfectly well that at least eighty percent of those tears were an act, he still raised his hand and awkwardly patted her trembling back.

He didn’t speak.

But the eyes that were usually dark and calm now seemed coated in a thick layer of frost, cold intent surging beneath the surface.

It seemed he had been too quiet lately—quiet enough that some people had started to think that as long as Huo Jingchuan couldn’t stand up, the Huo family was a toothless tiger anyone could step on.

“All right. Stop crying.”

His voice was low and steady, carrying a calming authority.“I’ll handle this.”

Jiang Mian sniffed, lifting her red, watery eyes to look at him pitifully.

“Really? But Sister-in-law Wu said her husband is a deputy regimental commander and about to be promoted… we can’t afford to offend them…”

Quick, quick—this is your CEO-boss moment!Hurry and rush out to argue with that shrew!Or get the guard to throw the trash back into her house!Get me my revenge!

Listening to her very down-to-earth revenge ideas, the corner of Huo Jingchuan’s mouth curved in a faintly mocking smile.

Arguing?Throwing trash?

That was what shrews did.

If you were going to strike, you struck the vital point—so the enemy could never recover.

He gently pushed Jiang Mian aside and wheeled himself toward the rosewood desk by the window.

On the desk sat an unremarkable but brightly colored red telephone.

It was a confidential internal military line—only officers of sufficient rank were authorized to have one.

Standing nearby, Jiang Mian blinked her still-teary eyes in curiosity.

Huh? Not going out to argue? Why the phone? Calling backup?

Under her puzzled gaze, Huo Jingchuan calmly picked up the receiver, his long fingers rotating the dial with practiced ease.

“Logistics Department, Discipline Inspection Division.”

The call connected quickly.

Leaning back in his chair, posture relaxed as if chatting with an old friend, Huo Jingchuan spoke words that made Jiang Mian’s eyes widen instantly.

“Hello, Old Li. It’s me—Huo Jingchuan.”

The person on the other end sounded surprised and enthusiastic. Huo Jingchuan didn’t bother with small talk and went straight to the point, his tone as casual as discussing the weather.

“It’s nothing urgent. I just suddenly remembered—wasn’t there an issue with the winter uniform procurement for Third Regiment last year?”

He paused, lifted his teacup, gently blew away the foam, took a slow sip, and continued:

“If I recall correctly, the person in charge was Deputy Regimental Commander Wang Daqiang?”

“Some soldiers reported that inferior cotton was used. The matter was suppressed back then, but for the sake of discipline and conduct, I think it should be investigated.”

Old Li clearly caught the implication.

Who was Huo Jingchuan?

Famously protective. Famously vindictive. He never dug up old cases without reason.

If he was naming Wang Daqiang now, it meant that fool had offended the Living Yama himself.

“Understood. Understood.” The response was immediate.

Huo Jingchuan set down the teacup, tapped his fingers lightly on the desk, and added one final, deadly calm line:

“Then investigate thoroughly. If there are violations, punish them. If reassignment is needed, reassign him. A cadre with questionable ideology isn’t suitable for a main combat regiment.”

Click.

The call ended.

The entire process took less than two minutes.

No shouting.No confrontation.Not even a harsh word.

Huo Jingchuan looked perfectly composed—like he’d just made a call asking someone to deliver a bag of rice.

Meanwhile, Jiang Mian was completely stunned.

She had forgotten to keep crying.

Tears still clung to her cheeks, but her mouth hung open in a perfect “O.” Her usually timid almond eyes were wide with shock.

Holy shit…So this is what they mean by “destroying armies with a smile”?!No noise, no drama—not even stepping outside—and one phone call straight up dug up Wu Guihua’s family grave?!Auditing logistics accounts? That’s cutting off Wang Daqiang’s career path!A “thorough investigation”? That’s a guaranteed hit!Wu Guihua’s still outside calling me an enemy agent, and her husband’s about to get investigated for corruption—this is dimensionality reduction warfare!

Jiang Mian stared at the man in the wheelchair—calm, indifferent, yet holding other people’s futures in his hands. Her heart skipped uncontrollably.

This was no cripple.

This was a lion taking a nap.

Huo Yama… you’re ruthless. So handsome. So damn handsome. This feeling of crushing enemies without lifting a finger—pure bliss!I hereby declare: from today on, you’re not just my long-term meal ticket—you’re my idol. This thigh? I’m hugging it for life. Super glue couldn’t pry me off.

Huo Jingchuan turned his wheelchair and met her star-filled, worshipful gaze.

Hearing her completely unfiltered praise (crude wording and all), his mood lifted. A trace of warmth crept into his icy eyes.

He raised a brow and asked lightly,“Well? Still crying?”

Jiang Mian snapped back to her senses, wiped her face at random, and broke into an extremely boot-licking, radiant smile.

“Not crying anymore! With Brother Jingchuan here, I’m not afraid of anything!”

Cry my ass—I just want to grab some sunflower seeds, sit by the door, and wait to watch Wu Guihua cry.
