“Alright, I’ll go pay it right away.”
Yang Tiehua took the payment slip, and just as she was about to turn around, she paused and looked back at Fu Ziheng.
“Brother Ziheng, go inside first, I’ll handle the payment.”
Without waiting for him to reply, she hurried off toward the payment counter.
“Hello, I’m here to pay the medical fees.” Yang Tiehua handed over the slip.
The cashier glanced at it, recorded something in a ledger, then used a calculator before saying, “The total is 1,128 yuan.”
Yang Tiehua froze while holding the two hundred yuan she had taken out.
“More than eleven hundred? Wait, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?”
Fu Ziheng was only supposed to undergo a simple examination. How could it possibly cost over a thousand yuan?
This was an outright robbery. Even a major hospital should not be this expensive.
“There’s no mistake. This is for kidney removal surgery. Eleven hundred is a normal price,” the nurse replied impatiently.
“What kidney removal surgery? We only came for a basic examination.”
The moment she finished speaking, Yang Tiehua suddenly reacted.
Kidney?
Oh no!
Her entire heart trembled violently as she turned and sprinted toward the operating room.
Seeing the tightly shut doors, Yang Tiehua slammed into them with all her strength. Though the doors were sturdy, they still dented inward slightly.
She continued kicking them and throwing her body against them.
Inside the operating room, a nurse had just been about to administer anesthesia to Fu Ziheng when the crashing sounds from outside startled her, causing the needle to stab into the nearby cushion instead.
“What’s going on? Who’s bold enough to crash into the operating room doors?”
The male doctor holding the scalpel frowned.
The female doctor beside him looked uneasy. “Husband, let’s hurry up and ignore the outside. That door won’t break open anyway.”
The male doctor, who had just been about to lower his scalpel, thought about it and found her words reasonable.
“Forget about it. Quickly administer the anesthesia. We’re starting the operation.”
“Brother Ziheng, don’t! Open the door! Open the door for me!”
The operating room doors had already been forced open enough for a narrow gap, allowing Yang Tiehua’s voice to reach inside.
The moment he heard her voice, Fu Ziheng froze.
It was Yang Tiehua.
What had happened? Why did she sound so panicked?
Instinctively, Fu Ziheng tried to push himself up from the bed, but the male doctor immediately pressed him back down.
“Hey, what are you doing? Don’t you know you’re in surgery right now?”
“My wife is calling for me. Something may have happened. I need to go check on her first.” Fu Ziheng could not stop himself from worrying.
“Don’t forget you’re already in the operating room. Do you think people can casually leave once they enter? Lie down properly. Even if the sky collapses, you’ll wait until after the operation before leaving.
Hurry up and anesthetize him already.”
Not only was the male doctor’s attitude terrible, but he also seemed strangely anxious.
At that moment, Fu Ziheng also noticed the unnatural expressions in the nurses’ eyes.
Just as the nurse was about to inject him, he suddenly grabbed her wrist.
“Nurse, that needle just stabbed into the cushion. Shouldn’t you replace it before using it on me?”
“Th… this…” The nurse became so nervous that the syringe slipped from her hand.
“Useless trash. You can’t even manage a simple injection.”
The male doctor cursed as he picked up the syringe and forcefully stabbed it toward Fu Ziheng’s arm.
Fu Ziheng sharply dodged aside, knocked the needle away, and rolled off the bed.
“Damn it! Tie him down right now. Since you refuse to cooperate, then forget the anesthesia. We’ll just cut him open like this.”
The male doctor gritted his teeth and grabbed the scalpel.
Several nurses rushed over and pinned Fu Ziheng down while the female doctor brought over a rope to tie him up.
After forcing him back onto the operating bed, the female doctor ripped open his shirt, revealing his firm chest.
Her eyes lit up slightly. “I didn’t expect this guy to have such a good body. What a pity.”
The male doctor sneered. “What, want to play with him for a few days before we cut him open?”
The female doctor laughed angrily. “Husband, what nonsense are you talking about? Hurry up already.”
The man said nothing further and raised the scalpel toward the position of Fu Ziheng’s kidney.
Fu Ziheng desperately struggled, but tied down like this, he was nothing more than a trapped insect waiting to be slaughtered.
In the end, he resigned himself to fate and closed his eyes.
Yet the pain he expected never came.
Instead, a miserable scream rang out beside him.
Then came the sound of something heavy crashing to the floor.
Fu Ziheng abruptly opened his eyes and saw Yang Tiehua wielding an IV stand pole, viciously beating the male doctor. Even the nurses rushing toward her were kicked away with a single strike.
Yang Tiehua’s furious voice exploded through the operating room.
“You death seeking bastards! How dare you try to cut out my man’s kidney! Who gave you the courage? I’ll break your hands!”
As soon as she finished speaking, she smashed the metal pole directly onto the male doctor’s arm.
“Ahhh!”
Another scream echoed through the operating room.
Only after beating all of them until they could no longer get up did Yang Tiehua finally throw away the metal pole and rush over to help Fu Ziheng sit up.
“Brother Ziheng, are you alright? I’m sorry, this is all my fault. I never should’ve let you come in here alone.”
Throwing herself into his arms, tears poured from her eyes like a flood.
Feeling her trembling body pressed against him, Fu Ziheng was stunned.
“Why… why did you suddenly come in to save me?” His voice had turned hoarse.
Yang Tiehua cried so hard she could barely speak. “You were about to have your kidney stolen, how could I not come? Thank goodness I realized what was happening in time, otherwise your kidney really would’ve been gone.”
Hearing this, Fu Ziheng froze.
He struggled to find his voice again. “Wasn’t it you who wanted to sell my kidney?”
The moment he said that, Yang Tiehua’s tears abruptly stopped. She jerked upright from his arms and nearly lost her voice.
“Brother Ziheng, do you even know what you’re saying? Why would I ever sell your kidney?”
“Didn’t you bring me to the provincial capital to sell it?” Fu Ziheng’s voice unconsciously rose.
Yang Tiehua burst into tears again.
“Fu Ziheng, am I insane? Why would I bring you here to sell your kidney? I’ve always said I brought you here to treat your leg. Where exactly did you hear such nonsense? If I really wanted to sell your kidney, I… wait.”
Suddenly, Yang Tiehua thought of something and stared at him in disbelief.
“Don’t tell me you overheard the joke I made with my dad that day?”
“A… a joke?” Fu Ziheng completely froze.
“I was teasing my dad! I said I wanted to sell the bracelet my grandfather left me. My dad said if I lacked money, he’d give me some, and if that wasn’t enough, he’d sell his kidney. I jokingly told him his kidney wasn’t as good as yours, and if anyone’s kidney was being sold, it would be yours.
Brother Ziheng, I swear to heaven, I truly brought you here to treat your leg. Look, I even registered with the orthopedics department. I just never expected these doctors to be so bold, claiming your kidneys had problems and trying to remove one. And because you misunderstood things, this entire ridiculous misunderstanding happened.”
After saying all of this, Yang Tiehua’s heart ached painfully as tears continued streaming down her face.
Fu Ziheng had never imagined that it had all been his misunderstanding.
Inside, he felt both embarrassed and strangely happy.
Has she really changed?
Did she genuinely want to live a good life with him now, rather than acting only for her own selfish desires?
