“I really am not your younger brother.”
Lu Shiyin was already starting to feel a mild headache. He did not know how many times he had repeated this. Although the man in front of him kept agreeing with him, judging by his expression, he clearly did not believe a word and probably thought Lu Shiyin had lost his mind.
Understandably so. Waking up to find a beloved younger brother claiming not to recognize him would naturally lead anyone to suspect mental instability.
“Alright, Xiaoyin, I know you are not my younger brother right now. But since you are still injured, would you allow me to take care of you until you recover?”
The unfamiliar man sat beside his bed in a sharp business suit, his gaze gentle and his voice soft, making it hard not to feel a sense of trust toward him.
Lu Shiyin remained silent for a moment before replying, “I am a bit tired and want to sleep.”
“Alright, get some rest. I am going to find the doctor and grab you some lunch along the way. It will be ready for you when you wake up. Is there anything you would like to eat?”
“Snail rice noodles.”
“Alright, I will get you some. Rest now. Assistant Mo is waiting outside the door. If you need anything, call him, or you can call me.”
The man affectionately patted Lu Shiyin on the head, turned, walked out of the room, and gently pulled the door shut.
In an instant, the gentleness vanished from his face, replaced by his usual stern demeanor.
“Keep a close eye on him. Report to me immediately if Xiaoyin needs anything,” he said in a low voice to the person beside him.
This is not the company. What is there to report?
Assistant Mo could only complain inwardly while maintaining a polite, smiling nod. “Understood, Boss.”
Lu Shiyin felt rather bewildered by the man’s nonchalant reaction. He had casually blurted out a food item that patients were strictly prohibited from eating, yet the man had actually agreed to it.
It seemed that the relationship between this man and his younger brother was nothing special. Fortunately, he had not blurted out the fact that he had transmigrated into a novel; otherwise, if he were exploited, he might end up dying all over again.
Lu Shiyin lay in the hospital bed, looking at his bandage-wrapped arm with a somewhat desolate expression.
He was originally a paragliding enthusiast, and on the day of the accident, he was wingsuit flying to challenge high-difficulty maneuvers.
Despite making extensive preparations, an accident still occurred, causing him to fall from the sky to his death, only to open his eyes and find himself here.
Lu Shiyin lowered his hand and sighed. He was an orphan with no parents, so he did not have too many regrets left behind after death.
It was just that the friends he paraglided with would probably be sad, though everyone had prepared themselves for the possibility of accidents, so they should be able to accept it.
Thinking of this, the figure of a certain person flashed across Lu Shiyin’s mind. That person was like a little sun, constantly encouraging him to pursue his own passions, and even shared a name like the sun: Shiyao.
Shiyao also knew all his habits, guessing everything on his mind as if he possessed telepathy.
The person he worried about most was Shiyao. He hoped Shiyao could move on from this.
He was not particularly surprised by his own death, after all, extreme sports were essentially dancing with the Grim Reaper.
Lu Shiyin considered his current situation. He had transmigrated into a book, specifically, a novel recommended by a friend. The male protagonist was the original owner’s eldest brother, and the female protagonist was a senior student at a well-known university interned at the eldest brother’s company.
While waiting for the elevator at work, the female protagonist ran into the eldest brother and found him breathtakingly handsome, prompting her to orchestrate multiple accidental encounters to pursue him. However, the eldest brother was an unromantic workaholic who repeatedly rejected her advances.
True to her heroine status, she refused to give up easily. She diligently studied the inner workings of the eldest brother’s company, worked as a secretary for her own brother for a year after graduation, and then submitted her resume to the eldest brother’s company to gain proximity.
Yet, the eldest brother remained unmoved, citing a strict no-office-romance policy to forbid any behavior crossing the boundaries of a professional relationship. Consequently, the female protagonist shifted her pursuit to after-hours. Despite numerous difficulties, she eventually managed to secure an invitation to a banquet and manufactured an encounter with the eldest brother.
At one particular banquet, the original owner’s second brother happened to run into the female protagonist greeting the eldest brother. Captivated by her stunning beauty, the second brother immediately began pursuing her. Naturally, the female protagonist, whose heart belonged elsewhere, rejected him and informed him of her affection for the eldest brother.
Unwilling to give up, the second brother learned that the eldest brother did not reciprocate her feelings, so his rejection did nothing to deter him. He repeatedly engineered public displays of affection in an attempt to win her over.
Albeit a gentle second male lead remains a second male lead, the female protagonist ultimately ended up with the stubborn eldest brother, while a heartbroken second brother fled abroad to clear his mind.
Yet the plot continued with characteristic melodrama. During their relationship, the eldest brother and the female protagonist frequently argued due to poor communication and were eventually driven apart by a third party.
After the breakup, an investigation revealed the truth, prompting the eldest brother to seek reconciliation.
Unmoved, the female protagonist instead turned into a fierce competitor, sabotaging the eldest brother’s finances, seizing numerous projects from him, and even taking a new boyfriend. Ultimately, the female protagonist lived happily ever after with her new boyfriend, leaving the eldest brother to live out the rest of his life alone without ever seeking another partner.
Well, the ending was quite satisfying, except that the original owner barely appeared throughout the entire story, only making a few cameo appearances in unimportant scenes.
Therefore, after arriving here, apart from his name and the knowledge of his poor health, he knew absolutely nothing about the original owner, and would not even remember this character if they didn’t share the same name.
Recalling the moment he woke up, Lu Shiyin had seen a handsome, tall man over 185 centimeters tall claiming to be his older brother and showering him with warm concern.
Unable to process it immediately, he assumed he had cheated death and remained in his original world, vehemently denying that he was the younger brother and demanding to know who the man was.
At the time, the eldest brother’s reaction was sheer disbelief, followed by a minor sigh of relief as he claimed that Lu Shiyin had suffered amnesia from overwhelming grief and reassured him that he truly was his older brother.
Lu Shiyin had continued to deny the amnesia, insisting he retained his memories and noting that as an orphan, he could not possibly have an older brother.
Unable to laugh or cry, the eldest brother pulled out a photograph to explain and handed Lu Shiyin a mirror. The reflection in the mirror matched the person in the photograph identically, confirming he was indeed the younger brother.
Then it was Lu Shiyin’s turn to lose his voice, because the face in the mirror was no longer his original appearance.
His original eyes were pitch black, and his hair had been permed, so it should have been curly.
However, the person in the mirror had light brown eyes and somewhat dry, yellowish hair that looked malnourished and long enough to almost obscure his eyes.
It was only when the man in front of him stated that his name was Lu Shiyige that it finally dawned on him.
He had transmigrated.
Standing before him was the original owner’s older brother, Lu Shiyige.
His mind too chaotic, Lu Shiyin could only send Lu Shiyige away so he could gather his thoughts. Now, having processed everything, he finally accepted the reality of his transmigration.
What should I do next? Should I live on using his identity?
Lu Shiyin pondered many things, but having just woken up, he clearly could not sustain prolonged concentration. His head began to throb dully, leaving him no choice but to close his eyes and sleep.
“Forget it, I’ll take things one step at a time.”
“What is this?” Lu Shiyin woke up to find himself staring at a bowl of clear noodles completely devoid of any red chili oil.
“The snail rice noodles you wanted. But since you are still recovering and shouldn’t have anything spicy, I asked the restaurant to cook you a non-spicy version. You can have the spicy ones after you are discharged.”
