Inside the hospital.
The moment those people reached the doorway, Lu Shijian eagerly helped his younger brother carefully walk back to the room and tucked him into bed.
Looking pale and sickly, Lu Shiyin lay there, reluctant to move a single muscle.
Using a tissue, Lu Shijian wiped away the cold sweat beading on Lu Shiyin’s forehead, his brow furrowing deeply. “Why does he look like he’s in so much pain? I’m going to call the doctor over.”
Before long, the doctor arrived. Enduring his discomfort, Lu Shiyin described his dizziness and the condition of his wound.
After listening, the doctor explained to the two brothers, “The dizziness is because you’ve been lying in bed for too long, combined with your current anemia. Sitting up for too long will make you feel uncomfortable.”
“Since your mental state is much better now, you still need to walk around a bit more. Normally, you shouldn’t just lie around playing on your phone, and it’s best to limit your contact with electronic devices.”
“Also, pain at the wound site is normal. Some people are more sensitive to pain, so they might react more intensely than others. After a while, when the medication wears off a bit, it will get better.”
“Alright, thank you for the trouble, doctor.”
After seeing the doctor out, Lu Shijian returned and sat by the bed. “Hang in there, Xiaoyin. In a few more days, once the wound heals, it won’t hurt as much.”
“Mm,” Lu Shiyin replied weakly.
With his younger brother resting in bed, Lu Shijian didn’t want to disturb him, so he aimlessly wandered around the room out of boredom.
Yet no matter where he went, he still felt a lingering sense of irritation in his chest.
After turning it over in his mind, he finally decided to pull out his phone and message Lu Shiyige.
[Making money, making money, all you ever care about is making money.]
[Your younger brother was so angry today that he fainted in bed, and you didn’t even bat an eye.]
[If it weren’t for me, this family would fall apart sooner or later. You cold-blooded monster!]
After chewing Lu Shiyige out, Lu Shijian finally felt much better.
Knock, knock, knock. A sound came from behind him.
Looking back, Lu Shijian saw Assistant Mo.
“Second Young Master, the hospital just informed me that most of the items Young Master bought a few days ago have arrived. They’re asking where you’d like them placed.”
“The stuff Xiaoyin bought arrived? Good, I need to go take a look.”
Inside the company.
Having finished a mountain of paperwork, Lu Shiyige rubbed his temples. Due to some issues with recent projects, he had been working under high intensity for several days straight.
During a moment of leisure, he pulled out his phone, and the first thing that caught his eye was Lu Shijian’s accusation.
He had been too busy the past few days to spare a single moment to visit Xiaoyin. Even though he had promised to stay by his side, he had broken his word after all.
Fortunately, Lu Shijian was there, which gave him some peace of mind.
Still, what did he mean by Xiaoyin getting so angry he fainted?
Lu Shiyige sent a question mark back.
He would drop by later and bring him a gift.
Speaking of gifts, Lu Shiyige suddenly remembered asking his secretary to buy some things for Xiaoyin earlier. Calculating the time, they should be arriving home around now.
Now that the project was back on track, he could afford to give himself a break.
Lu Shiyige waited for quite a while without receiving a reply, so he messaged Assistant Mo to check on the situation.
Then he gave his secretary the day off, wrapped up his tasks, and headed toward the hospital.
On the way.
The chauffeur drove in front while Lu Shiyige sat in the back.
The car passed through a bustling commercial shopping district. Since it was daytime and everyone was at work, very few people could be seen shopping.
“Pull over,” Lu Shiyige told the driver.
“Understood, President Lu.”
The vehicle slowly turned into a parking space.
After parking, Lu Shiyige opened the car door and stepped out.
“I’m going to buy something. You don’t need to follow.”
“Alright, President Lu.”
Lu Shiyige was heading out to buy a gift for Lu Shiyin, but once inside the mall, looking at the wide array of items on display, he couldn’t find a single thing that satisfied him.
He pulled his phone from his pocket to call his secretary for advice, but just as he was about to dial, he suddenly remembered he had already given the secretary the day off, so he quietly slid the phone back.
As Lu Shiyige searched around, a pet shop suddenly caught his eye.
Impelled by a strange urge, Lu Shiyige walked inside, and before long, he walked out with a birdcage housing two parrots.
He had no idea why he listened to the clerk and bought two talking parrots, perhaps because they could talk and keep someone company.
He wanted to buy a pet to accompany Xiaoyin. Dogs had too much energy, cats shed too much fur, and parrots genuinely seemed like the most suitable choice for him.
President Lu had gone out for a trip and returned with two birds. Though curious, the chauffeur knew better than to ask.
“Xiaoyin, you actually bought all this food? Your current body can’t eat these. I’m going to confiscate them for now.”
Returning to the ward, Lu Shiyige saw Lu Shijian squatting on the floor, rifling through packages while chewing on spicy snack strips.
“This stuff is spicy, numbing, and actually pretty good. I’ve never had anything this delicious before.”
“Second Brother, you’ve been abroad all this time, of course you haven’t.”
Lu Shiyin’s condition was much better than in the morning, and the wound didn’t hurt as badly. At the moment, he was sitting on the sofa examining the items he had ordered, while the packages were being unpacked by Lu Shijian and Assistant Mo.
He hadn’t bought those foods because he genuinely wanted to eat them; seeing the pictures had simply piqued his appetite, and if he didn’t buy them now, he would keep craving them later.
Just as he finished organizing the books he bought and set them aside, he looked up and saw Lu Shiyige standing at the door.
“Big Brother?”
Lu Shiyige stood at the entrance looking slightly dazed. It felt like it had been a very long time since he last heard Xiaoyin call him Big Brother, and he hadn’t heard Xiaoyin call him that once during the past few days since waking up.
“Mm,” he replied in a low voice, taking long strides into the room to place the birdcage on the coffee table.
“Passing by the mall on my way back, I saw a pet shop selling parrots and bought these two for you. I wasn’t sure if you’d like them.”
Looking over, Lu Shiyin was instantly captivated by the parrots’ stunning appearance.
Perhaps because they had arrived in an unfamiliar environment, the two birds looked a bit frightened and huddled close together.
One of them had white feathers on the front half of its body, transitioning into a pale turquoise gradient from its back down to its tail feathers.
The other bird had turquoise feathers from its head to its tail, gray wavy patterns across its chest, and a completely different shade of peacock-blue on its spread wings.
Lu Shiyin was stunned. He hadn’t expected his stern, parent-like older brother to actually buy him birds, let alone two of them.
Noticing the commotion from amidst his mountain of packages, Lu Shijian looked over and spotted the two birds.
“Oh, whose birds are these? They look pretty nice. Don’t tell me you bought them, Big Brother?”
“I bought them. What about it?” Lu Shiyige replied, leaning back onto the sofa while keeping his eyes trained on Lu Shiyin’s expression.
Ah, his complexion was rosy, not looking like anything was wrong.
On the way back, Assistant Mo had already explained that those people had come to apologize to Xiaoyin, but Xiaoyin had refused to forgive them.
Naturally, this was what Lu Shiyige wanted, but he still worried that Xiaoyin might be affected by them.
Seeing Lu Shiyin smile as he teased the birds, his anxious heart finally settled. Xiaoyin genuinely liked his gift after all.
Lu Shiyin really did like the two birds because their feathers were exceptionally pretty.
As he admired their plumage, a thought crossed his mind, and he raised his eyes to look at Lu Shiyige.
“Big Brother, what breed are these two parrots? Can they talk?”
“Monk parakeets, I think? The clerk said they’re quite smart and can talk.”
Beside them, Lu Shijian looked as though he had just heard an unbelievable word.
“Monks? Who on earth names a fluffy bird a monk?”
