“What’s wrong with you?! How did I offend you?”
“Really… don’t remember anything at all?” Yu An rested his head on her shoulder casually, acting as if she could do whatever she wanted.
His breath brushed against her neck, and Jin Qiao could feel her heart going out of control.
Such a dirty trick! A beauty trap! Impossible to guard against.
She froze in place as Yu An lifted her into his arms.
Wait… what did he just say—memory?
Is my memory incomplete? Impossible. He must have been talking to the original owner, since I lied that her memory had issues.
Indeed, I don’t have the original memories either.
“Stop! Stop! Stop!”
Snapping back to clarity, Jin Qiao pushed him away immediately. Yu An’s head hit the door.
Seeing him clutch his head with that betrayed-lover expression, Jin Qiao bolted.
Phew~
She dashed into Yu Siyu’s room.
Little Siyu, already freshly bathed, sat on the bed reading. His eyes lit up when he saw Mommy.
Why is Mommy here now?
“Uh~ Mommy’s sleeping with you tonight, okay?”
Worried her son might resist, Jin Qiao had even considered booking a hotel room outside if necessary—but then she saw Yu Siyu scoot into the bed and pat the spot, inviting her over.
Jin Qiao was touched beyond words.
“Mommy will shower first, then come, okay?”
“Mm-hmm!”
Jin Qiao went back to the master bedroom, opened the door slightly, and peeked in.
She didn’t see anyone, just heard water running. She exhaled in relief, tiptoed in to grab her clothes, and ran back to Yu Siyu’s room.
“Come here, baby, Mommy’s going to tell you a bedtime story!”
Jin Qiao cuddled up beside Yu Siyu, book in hand, eager to read.
She glanced at the dense text.
She’d randomly picked a book—it turned out to be a collection of essays.
And she got sleepy at the sight of too many words. She couldn’t even get started.
“Baby… you usually read these books? You can recognize all the words?”
Yu Siyu pointed to a small screen by the bed.
A high-tech gadget that could scan the book and read it aloud after a moment.
She had overthought it.
Looking at the book and then at Yu Siyu’s expectant face…
“Baby, I think it’s better if you tell me bedtime stories instead.”
She couldn’t do it—the book alone was overwhelming!
“Sleep time, sleep time. Early to bed, early to rise, grow taller!”
Jin Qiao got up, turned off the light, and cuddled Yu Siyu, pretending to sleep.
But Yu Siyu, wrapped in his mom’s arms, wasn’t sleepy. He kept thinking about what she said.
I’ll tell Mommy bedtime stories… but me…
It’s okay, I’ll practice more. I can do it.
Mommy is sleeping with me tonight! So happy!
I hope Mommy sleeps with me every night!
Thinking that, he drifted off to sleep.
Yu An came out of the shower and went to the study to handle work. He only had evenings to manage this now, since he was on time to leave for work and come home for dinner.
He wanted to give Jin Qiao some self-cooling time.
But when he returned and saw she wasn’t in bed, he resolved not to let her have any more “self-cooling” time next time.
Click.
He opened the children’s room door.
He saw her cuddled up to Yu Siyu, both sleeping in uniquely twisted positions.
How is this supposed to look like a mother and son?
Yu An sighed, walked over, picked up the blanket that had fallen, covered them, then left the room.
Back in the master bedroom.
Yu An lay down and opened his phone. Photos of a man and child in bright clothes, smiling, filled the screen.
Photos he had taken from the patriarch’s social media.
At first, he only felt abandoned by Jin Qiao. But at a party, he saw her again. She didn’t recognize him, but after learning his identity, she used every means to get close.
That’s when he realized she wasn’t the same person he had known.
But he couldn’t accept her being beside another man. So when she clearly wanted to marry him, he gave her the identity that tied her to him.
These past days, she had been around. Today, she wasn’t… he couldn’t sleep!
Frustrated.
He got up and went to the children’s room to bring her back to the master bedroom.
Seeing her instinctively curl into his arms, he finally felt a little peace.
The next morning.
Yu Siyu woke up and didn’t see Mommy, surprised since she never got up this early.
He hurried to the master bedroom.
Knocking twice, the door opened—it was Daddy.
Yu Siyu tugged at Yu An’s pants, peeking inside. Mommy hadn’t woken up.
Aha!
Yu Siyu’s little face puffed with anger, glaring at Yu An.
Why is Daddy like this?!
Yu An cleared his throat nervously, keeping his voice low.
“This is your Mommy—she’s sleeping with me.”
Yu Siyu’s tiny fists and feet went to work, but it looked more like tickling Yu An.
Yu An glanced at Jin Qiao, still sound asleep, and scooped Yu Siyu up by the collar.
Closed the door and headed downstairs.
Bad Daddy, bad Daddy… I’m never talking to you again.
He set Yu Siyu down and crossed his arms.
Father and son had breakfast in a “you ignore me, I ignore you” atmosphere.
Jin Qiao was dumbfounded. Looking around, everything felt familiar, making her doubt whether last night’s memories were real.
Wasn’t she with her son last night?
Maybe she sleepwalked! She couldn’t control herself, after all.
Seeing the other side of the bed with impressions of someone sleeping, Jin Qiao patted her head.
What do I do? I took advantage again.
She quickly tidied up, went downstairs, and saw father and son on opposite ends of the sofa.
Why didn’t Yu An go to work today? No longer a workaholic?
Unbeknownst to her, the whole company was celebrating the unexpected day off.
As soon as Jin Qiao came down, both of them stared. Yu Siyu’s pitiful gaze made her feel uneasy.
His little pout was so pronounced, it could hang an oil can.
Yu An acted natural, glanced at her, then returned to his documents—though if she looked closer, she’d see the corner of his mouth twitching into a small smile.
“What’s wrong?”
Hearing her voice, Yu Siyu couldn’t hold it in. He ran over, hugging Jin Qiao’s legs, pointing at Yu An, full of accusation.
“What’s wrong with Daddy?”
Jin Qiao dragged her leg along, grabbed a slice of toast, and bit it.
Yu Siyu clung tightly.
“Where’s your notebook?”
Mentioning the notebook, Yu Siyu remembered and ran upstairs to his room.
“Did you make him mad?”
“No, I don’t think so.” Yu An didn’t lift his head, replying casually.
Thump thump thump.
Yu Siyu ran downstairs with his notebook.
“Slow down, don’t fall!”
Handing it to her, the text on it almost choked Jin Qiao.
