Seeing Lin Yu around made Jin Qiao uneasy.
She wanted to tell her it wasn’t necessary to come, but with Yu Siyu nearby, it didn’t feel appropriate. So she said:
“Not needed for now. I’ll call you later with the reason.”
After hearing a faint “okay” on the other end, Jin Qiao decisively hung up.
Yu An stared at the disconnected call in surprise. This woman said she’d explain the reason over the phone tonight?
Hmph. Tonight they were going to the old family mansion for dinner—he was curious to see what excuse she would come up with.
With that taken care of, the mother and son cozied up together to watch TV.
Until the screen showed spicy pig trotters. Jin Qiao’s mouth watered immediately.
She stretched, got up, and said to Wu Ma:
“Have the kitchen make some spicy pig trotters for tonight.”
Wu Ma was about to agree when she quickly remembered:
“Madam, we’re going to the old mansion for dinner tonight. A few days ago, Master called and you agreed.”
Jin Qiao laughed awkwardly, holding her head:
“Oh, I see. Could you notify the chef there? I really want some spicy pig trotters.”
Wu Ma chuckled but nodded, contacting the chef as requested.
“Bored staying with Mom? Want to do something? I can join you,” Jin Qiao said, smiling at Yu Siyu.
Yu Siyu thought for a moment. He had many things he wanted to do with Mom but didn’t dare ask too much for fear of bothering her.
Finally, he tugged on Jin Qiao’s hand and pointed to his room.
“Your room, right? Okay,” she said, taking his hand to his little corner.
Yu Siyu led her to a cozy corner of his room. Books lined the shelves, and a small single sofa showed this was where he spent most of his time.
He gestured for Mom to sit on the small sofa while he sat on the carpet.
He picked a book from a small cabinet and handed it to her, then picked one for himself, quietly flipping through a picture book at her feet.
Jin Qiao was initially surprised, but then felt a pang of emotion.
She reached out to stroke his soft hair, quietly sitting with him.
But Jin Qiao herself couldn’t focus on reading—soon she had dozed off.
Seeing her fall asleep, Yu Siyu got up and covered her with a small blanket.
By the time she woke, it was just about time to head to the old mansion. Seeing Yu Siyu quietly reading beside her, she felt guilty.
“Sorry, little one… I promised to read with you, but Mom fell asleep.”
Yu Siyu was already satisfied, shaking his head lightly and taking her hand.
After Wu Ma reminded them, Jin Qiao went upstairs to change and came down. Wu Ma had also dressed Yu Siyu and brought him to the car.
Upon arriving at the old mansion, the butler was already waiting outside. Jin Qiao, curious, looked around.
No wonder he’s the richest man in the world. Impressive! You could practically smell the money in the air.
Inside the main hall, two people were already sitting on the sofa waiting.
Yu Zhen—Grandpa Yu—was described in the story as ruthless, but to Yu Siyu, he was the best.
He had taught Yu Siyu well, but unfortunately passed away before Yu Siyu grew up.
Several other Yu family members were also present, making Jin Qiao’s head ache. She didn’t know anyone—what if she needed to call someone?
While she was lost in thought, Yu Siyu pulled her to Yu Zhen.
“Si Si’s here! Grandpa, hug!”
Yu Siyu didn’t want to let go of Mom’s hand but also didn’t want to disappoint Grandpa, torn between the two.
Jin Qiao noticed his conflict. She picked him up and placed him in Yu Zhen’s arms, smiling as she said:
“He’s missed you. Give him a big hug!”
She didn’t want to interfere with the grandfather-grandson relationship, so she obediently stepped aside.
Her words caught Yu Zhen off guard. He had planned to warn Jin Qiao after dinner—his beloved grandson came first.
This woman had made Si Si so comfortable he wouldn’t even speak yet.
Grandpa Yu’s face darkened, and he took Yu Siyu to the other side.
Jin Qiao, unfamiliar with the family, sat off to the side, dazed.
Yu Siyu, concerned for Mom, pointed at Jin Qiao and signaled Grandpa to set him down. He wanted to go back to Mom.
Yu Zhen sneered inwardly, a little jealous.
He had noticed Jin Qiao acting differently these past days, but it still bothered him!
“Your mom’s been treating you well?”
Hearing Grandpa’s question, Yu Siyu thought about the past few days with Mom and nodded with a smile.
This mom has been great for a few days, I don’t need Grandpa anymore! Hmph, so ungrateful.
Despite this thought, Yu Zhen set Yu Siyu down.
Jin Qiao, still dazed, didn’t notice Yu Siyu running toward her. When he reached her, she finally snapped out of it.
“What’s wrong? Running so fast—you won’t trip?”
Yu Siyu dove into her arms, shaking his head.
At that moment, a man entered the doorway. Seeing him, Yu Zhen signaled the kitchen to start dinner.
Jin Qiao looked and met Yu An’s gaze.
Their eyes met briefly. Observing the strong resemblance to her son, Jin Qiao immediately knew his identity.
The same household registration—this was him.
Has the plot changed? This big villain… she remembered he wasn’t married.
Earlier, she said she’d call to discuss their son. Now, she could do it in person—just how she wanted.
At the dinner table, Jin Qiao felt blissfully isolated from the world, especially since Wu Ma had arranged spicy pig trotters just for her. She ate happily!
“Big brother, Shi Xiu’s almost a senior. Let him intern at the company,” Yu Zhen said, glancing at Yu Xu.
“Shi Xiu studies game design, right? Our company isn’t in that industry,” Yu Xu protested.
Yu Zhen glared. Yu Xu, thick-skinned as ever, replied:
“I’d feel better having him at our own company—it’s all family.”
Yu Shi Xiu was used to his father’s shamelessness and immediately refused:
“Uncle, I won’t join the company. I have my own plans.”
Yu Xu was furious! Ungrateful kid. Who is he doing this for?!
“Big brother! He’s old enough now—learn to listen to your child.”
Yu Shi Xiu knew exactly what his father was scheming. He glanced at Yu An, who remained quietly eating, seemingly unconcerned.
Yu Shi Xiu lowered his head and ate.
After the meal, Jin Qiao was invited to Yu Zhen’s study.
“The variety show we discussed earlier… filming will start soon.”
