Picking a Fight with the Wrong Person
“What do you say? I offer you twenty gold coins. Will you sell it or not?”
The woman in front demanded loudly, her tone not pleading but commanding, and her name was Zhou Xin Ru.
Zhou Xin Ru, the youngest daughter of the ruler of Wari City, was only fourteen years old.
However, her overly flashy makeup and attire made Bai Xue initially mistake her for being seventeen or eighteen.
The ruler of Wari City, named Zhou Jing Hao, and the Zhou family of Wari City had only recently become one of the powers.
Zhou Jinghao’s martial prowess was at the lower level of a saint level.
Zhou Jinghao had three children in total.
The eldest son, Zhou Feng, and the second, Zhou Zi Nan, both from his principal wife.
Zhou Feng was hailed as a young genius, for at just over twenty, he already possessed sacred-level martial prowess, similar to Meng Lan.
Zhou Xin Ru, being the only daughter and born from a favored concubine, was doted on and spoiled by Zhou Jinghao.
This made Zhou Xin Ru willful, insisting on getting whatever she wanted.
Today, Zhou Xin Ru visited the dark market with her two brothers.
Being a powerful family, they carried a golden jade plaque allowing them to bring as many people as they wanted, hence she was accompanied by numerous guards.
While shopping, she was captivated by the White Cloud Silk.
Initially, Zhou Xin Ru did not know about White Cloud Silk but found it beautiful.
However, when she tried to buy it, the merchant refused to sell it and made the same offer as he had to Bai Xue.
In the dark market, Zhou Xin Ru couldn’t throw her weight around as she liked.
She couldn’t force the merchant, nor could she heal the stupid beast herself, so she had her guards watch the silk merchant, planning to negotiate again once he left the market.
If he refused, she was prepared to use force.
Who would have thought a young girl would come and heal the beast, taking the White Cloud Silk that rightfully belonged to her?
“Twenty gold coins?” Bai Xue repeated Zhou Xin Ru’s words in surprise.
Was this woman foolish?
White Cloud Silk sold for fifty gold coins per bolt, and she had five bolts, totaling two hundred and fifty gold coins.
Yet, this woman wanted to buy it from her for just twenty gold coins.
Who would sell at that price?
“Yes! I’ll give you twenty gold coins,” Zhou Xin Ru insisted, thinking twenty gold coins was a substantial amount for such silk.
“White Cloud Silk sells for fifty gold coins per bolt. Didn’t you know?” Bai Xue countered, making Zhou Xin Ru feel insulted, thinking Bai Xue was mocking her.
“I don’t care how much it sells for! I’ll buy it for twenty gold coins, and you will sell it to me!” Zhou Xin Ru demanded of Bai Xue.
She considered herself a power to be reckoned with and felt no need to fear anyone.
Bai Xue, encountering such an entitled woman intent on causing trouble, frowned in displeasure.
“Miss Bai, this woman is Zhou Xin Ru, the daughter of the ruler of Wari City,”
Ye Nuo warned Bai Xue, as clashing with power could be as harmful as self-sabotage.
“A power, you say?” Bai Xue paused and asked back.
“Yes.”
Zhou Xin Ru smiled, pleased, hearing Ye Nuo’s words and seeing Bai Xue’s apprehensive look.
Now that the girl knew she was dealing with a power, she wouldn’t dare cause any trouble.
“So what if you’re a power?” Bai Xue spoke up before turning back to face Zhou Xin Ru.
Did she think being a power allowed her to bully anyone she pleased?
Seeing her being bullied so easily?
“You!”
“Do powers not have to respect the rules of the dark market? Or is the ruler of Wari City greater than the owner of the dark market?” Bai Xue calmly retorted.
Initially, those watching pitied Bai Xue for getting into trouble with the daughter of the city ruler.
But who would have thought her single sentence could drag both powers into confrontation?
The ruler of Wari City and the owner of the dark market had a history of conflict, and their families had not been on good terms since.
If Zhou Xin Ru caused trouble here, it certainly wouldn’t end well.
“You!” Zhou Xin Ru looked at Bai Xue with intense anger, having never been treated this way before.
“If you think you can snatch it away, then try,” Bai Xue taunted softly, smiling innocently.
The bystanders couldn’t hear Bai Xue’s words, meant only for Zhou Xin Ru.
They saw only a weak young girl being bullied by a noble daughter from a powerful family.
Who would have thought Bai Xue could provoke Zhou Xin Ru while smiling so innocently?
Having lived in a young girl’s body her whole life, she was just pretending to be harmless and ignorant.
She had done this so often that she had gotten used to it.
Bai Xue was adept at playing the innocent, unaware girl, even though she had just killed someone.
What did she have to fear from a temperamental woman like Zhou Xin Ru?
“You all! Seize her! I’ll deal with her!”
Zhou Xin Ru, enraged beyond control as Bai Xue had anticipated, ordered her guards to capture Bai Xue immediately.
“But, Miss…”
This guard, belonging to Zhou Feng, knew better than to cause a scene here.
He hesitated to follow Zhou Xin Ru’s order, intending to advise her to calm down.
“Dare you defy my orders?!”
Zhou Xin Ru screamed, furious, looking disdainfully at the disobedient guards.
The onlookers turned away, deciding it was best to avoid involvement with such a person.
The young masters and misses thought to themselves, what did being powerful matter if one behaved so disgracefully and rudely?
It was shameful for someone of such low lineage.
“Miss, should I inform your brother first?”
“Go! Call my brother here!” Upon mentioning her brother, Zhou Xin Ru regained some sense and quickly gave the order.
The guard left immediately.
If her brother arrived, she thought, let’s see if this girl dared to cause any more trouble.
Her brother was not someone to be trifled with lightly.
“You little wretch!”
And it worked.
Zhou Xin Ru, unable to bear the insult, lost control, even though it was true that her power was low.
No one had ever dared to speak of it in front of her.
When provoked, Zhou Xin Ru lost her temper and rationality, unleashing her wind elemental power in a fierce attack towards Bai Xue.
However, Bai Xue easily dodged the assault, also pulling Zi Ting and Ye Nuo to safety with her.
This caused Zhou Xin Ru’s attack to miss them entirely, instead causing chaos among the high-ranking nobles and damaging many items for sale behind them.
Boom!
“Ouch!”
“Ah!”
“Young Miss! My Master!”
Chaos ensued immediately.
Zhou Xin Ru, still unrepentant, attempted another attack on Bai Xue, but this time, the guards of the Zhou family managed to restrain her in time.
The dark market’s guards also arrived just in time to witness the entire scene.
“Do you, the Zhou family, intend to cause trouble?” The dark market’s guard asked menacingly.
Given the animosity between their masters, it was unlikely their subordinates would get along.
“Young Miss did not do it on purpose. It was merely an accident. My Master will take full responsibility for everything,” one of the Zhou family’s guards, who was one of Zhou Feng’s and known for his sharp wit, responded.
“Do you think we are blind!” The dark market’s guard had witnessed the entire incident, clearly not buying their explanation.
“Yes, yes, Lady Zhou deliberately used her power. And you dare say it was an accident!” By some coincidence, the lady who was hit by Zhou Xin Ru’s stray attack was from the Gao family, which had long been at odds with Zhou Xin Ru.
“I was targeting that stupid girl. It’s your own fault for standing there like idiots!” Zhou Xin Ru retorted defiantly, only worsening her situation.
Zhou Feng’s guard looked down upon his own lady even more for her foolish actions.
The Zhou family was at a disadvantage in this situation.
Zhou Xin Ru should have kept quiet.
“If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have thought you intentionally attacked me. Why did that little girl not get injured at all, but instead, Master Luo and I were hurt?” Gao Mei Ying also refused to back down, looking terrible at the moment.
“Gao Mei Ying, are you trying to slander me!”
“Slander? Look at that child, then look at us. Do you think a child so small could dodge your attack? She’s just a child!”
To Gao Mei Ying and others, Bai Xue appeared innocent and pure, making it unthinkable for Zhou Xin Ru to attack her.
It was too cruel.
“Do you all plan to gang up on me! Wait until my brother comes. Will you still dare to speak then!!”
“What’s happening here?”
Zhou Xin Ru’s outcry was cut short by the arrival of a man’s voice.
Bai Xue turned to see the newcomer, a man of similar age to Bai San, dressed in dark purple luxurious clothes, with a calm and handsome face.
He approached with a demeanor that commanded respect.
“Big brother!”
Ah, he was the main force of Lady Zhou here.
