Morning light found Yan Chi already dressed, standing before the bronze mirror in his room with his sash half tied and his newly strengthened body looking back at him as if it belonged to someone he was still getting to know.

He was still lean and still young, nineteen years old in a face that Yan Fan had never worn, but something under the skin had changed overnight. Fifth-stage Body Refining sat in his bones like banked fire, a quiet density that made his stance feel surer even when he was only finishing the knot at his waist. At the edge of his vision, ten Pervert Points glowed with patient indifference. It was a joke of a fortune and also a seed, and he meant to grow it into something that could buy him a life.

Today he planned to walk the city. Not for pleasure, though pleasure would almost certainly find him — this was a demonic territory, and beauty walked the streets here as if it owned the air — but for knowledge. He needed the layout of Jinling in his bones: the alleys and the markets, the places where strength gathered and the places where the weak got eaten. He had no choice except to live here, in this flesh, under this name. Understanding the ground was the first step toward owning it.Full novel: Transmitted Into a Cultivation world with a Perverted System. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He opened the door and went out. The Yan residence gave way to the outer roads, and the outer roads gave way to the city proper, a sprawl of beautiful buildings rising in layered eaves and dark lacquer, with banners snapping in the mountain wind and qi lanterns still glowing faintly where last night's formations had not yet been dismissed. Roof tiles shone like wet ink. Bridges arched over narrow canals that smelled of lotus and waste in equal measure. The streets were crowded wall to wall. Cultivators in sect colours moved beside mortals in plain cloth; a woman with a sword on her back laughed as she stepped over a beggar without looking down. Street vendors shouted prices for grilled spirit-beast skewers and cheap recovery pills. Someone's spiritual beast yowled from a cage. Perfume and blood and hot oil braided together in the air until Yan Chi's new body did not know whether to hunger or flinch.

And in the middle of a crossroads, two demonic cultivators were already fighting. Fists and qi flares cracked against each other. Blood spotted the stones. A ring of watchers stood around them and did not intervene, because intervention was for people who wanted to die or to owe a favour. One fighter's cheekbone cracked audibly under a blow, and the crowd cheered, and a mortal child clapped as if it were a festival play. Nobody seemed to find it strange, because in Jinling this was simply the weather.

He made himself stop and watch, because the old Yan Chi never would have. The taller of the two fighters was a lean woman in a split black robe with a chain wrapped around one forearm, and she moved like a whip, snapping in and out of range with her qi flaring dark red at her knuckles. Her opponent was a thick-necked man with a shaved head who simply walked through her blows and swung back with fists the size of melons, and each time one of them landed, the crack of it rang off the walls of the shops. Neither of them seemed angry. That was what frightened Yan Chi most. They fought the way merchants haggled, with a kind of bored, practical violence, and when the woman finally whipped her chain around the man's throat and dragged him down onto the stones and knelt on his chest until he slapped the ground twice, she stood up and wiped her nose with the back of her hand and held out her palm, and he paid her three spirit stones from his sleeve, and the crowd dispersed as though a street play had ended.

Three spirit stones. He nearly died for three spirit stones, and nobody thinks it's strange.

Yan Chi slowed. Fear prickled under the new strength, an uncomfortable twitch of the old Yan Chi's cowardice moving in his borrowed nerves. These people were frightening in a way that had nothing to do with temperature. Strength was the only language they respected; everything else was decoration, apology, or meat. He had come all this way from a rented apartment and a dead heart, and the city still made that old fear try to fold him. If he did not become strong enough, his family could not protect him forever from beasts like these — or from beasts who wore the Yan name and smiled while they kicked.

He kept walking, eyes open, memorizing turns and counting exits. The Pervert System floated silent at the edge of his sight, as if waiting for him to do something filthy enough to pay for the next breakthrough.

"What is the young master Yan Chi doing here?"

The familiar voice came from behind him, bright and warm and threaded with surprise. He turned.

Cao Ning stood in the street smiling at him, her hands clasped behind her back, bending a little at the waist as she looked up into his face.

The bend was a crime. Her cleavage opened with the angle, the two pale inner slopes of her breasts falling forward and pressing together into a shadowed valley so deep that the morning light slid into it and didn't come back out. The blue robe she wore covered only half of each breast on top, clinging to the undersides and outer curves and leaving the whole middle of her chest bare, as if the cloth had been cut by a pervert with excellent taste and a steady hand. With her leaning forward like that, the silk hung away from her body for an instant, and he could see the full round undercurve of her left breast resting in the gap, and the edge of the panel trembling right at the border of her areola, where a faint rim of pink showed and vanished with her breath.

One small shift and her nipples would be out.

He wanted to reach into that gap and take those juicy tits in both hands and play with them until she moaned. Then he remembered where he was, in a crowded street in broad daylight with a grilled-meat vendor shouting at his elbow, and dragged his eyes up to her face, and failed not to look down again a heartbeat later.

She straightened, and everything settled back into the silk with a slow, full sway that he felt in his stomach.

The robe loved her body the way water loves a vase. Its colour was deep as the evening sky over the mountains, edged with pale thread that caught the sun whenever she moved, and the fabric was so fine it held the shape of whatever it touched. It moulded itself to the weight of her breasts and swayed with them, full and young and high, the kind of breasts that made Yan Fan's dead-earth brain short-circuit and Yan Chi's restored cock thicken against his trousers right there in public. Where the silk crossed the peaks it had thinned a little with wear, and her nipples pressed through it in two small blunt points that shifted every time she laughed.

The side cuts ran too high, up to her waist, and every breath of wind down the street pushed the panels apart and showed her thighs in long pale flashes. The skin there was smooth enough to beg for a hand, and higher up, where the morning light slipped under the cloth, the inner thighs were almost luminous, with a faint pink where they brushed together as she shifted her weight. A fine chain at her hip held the panels together and winked whenever she moved.

From behind, when she had bent, her rounded ass had made a curve that stopped passers-by mid-step. The back panel was cut too tight for bending; it had pulled taut and then tried to shrink into the cleft between her cheeks, outlining each one in shameless detail, the full lower swell, the shadowed line down the middle, the crease where buttock met thigh. Men behind her stared as if they had forgotten they had destinations. One older cultivator actually missed his step at the curb and caught himself on a rain barrel without ever taking his eyes off her. Follow the newest chapters on novelping(.)com.

Silver hair floated around her shoulders, catching the light like spun moonlight, and a few strands had blown forward and lay across the bare top of one breast, shining against the white skin. She had a goddess's face and a goddess's body, left defenceless by demonic fashion's design and somehow more dangerous for it.

Yan Chi had realised after transmigrating that women in the demonic cults wore clothes like this on purpose: to show their figures, to display, to tempt. It was normal here. It was culture, a dress code written in lust. Countless women on these streets wore the same cut or worse, breasts half out, thighs bared, the mounds of their pussies faintly printed through thin middle panels and their nipples outlined under silk until looking felt less like rudeness and more like breathing. It was a dream come true for any man who had died alone with a screen and a fist. He was that man. He was also standing in public in front of a childhood friend whose smile had no idea what his cock was doing in his trousers, thick and obvious to anyone who glanced down, as shameless as the city itself.

"Ah," he managed. "What are you doing here? I'm just out for a walk."

She had not expected to see him. In every borrowed memory, Yan Chi avoided the streets — the criticism, the laughter, the pointing fingers of people who called him useless. But she looked happy to find him anyway, her eyes bright.

"Let's walk together," she said. "I was doing the same."

The offer was attractive. He had no real map in his head yet. He accepted before pride could invent a reason not to.

At first they walked without much purpose, letting the crowd carry them down the main avenue toward the eastern markets. Cao Ning moved through Jinling the way a fish moves through water, nodding to shopkeepers she knew and stepping around a formation-marked delivery cart without looking down, and Yan Chi followed half a pace behind her and tried to learn the city's rhythm from the way she breathed it. A pair of Qi Consolidation cultivators passed them going the other way, their auras pressing on the air like humid weather, and Cao Ning dipped her head politely and Yan Chi copied her a heartbeat late. Further on, a street stall sold skewers of grilled spirit-beast meat that smelled so good his stomach clenched, and she bought two without asking and pressed one into his hand, grease shining on her fingers.

"You're staring at everything like a country boy," she said, laughing at him over her shoulder. "Have you really never come this way?"

"Not since we were children," he said, and found in the old Yan Chi's memories a picture of the two of them at eight and nine years old, running hand in hand through this very market to spend a single copper on a sugar figure shaped like a dragon, and Cao Ning crying when the dragon's tail broke off, and the boy giving her the head of his own so that she would stop. The memory was so sweet and so innocent that it sat strangely beside everything else in him, and he set it gently aside, the way one sets down something fragile that belongs to somebody else.

"You gave me your dragon once," Cao Ning said suddenly, as if she had seen the same picture. "Do you remember? Right over there. I cried so much that the sugar man gave us another one for free."

"I remember," he said, and it was true, in a way.

"Eat," she said. "You look like you forgot breakfast."

He had, and he ate it gratefully. The meat was rich and slightly sweet and left a warmth in his chest that had nothing to do with cultivation. Watching her lick a drop of grease from her thumb nearly made him walk into a post.

"Big brother Yan Chi," she said after a while, using the childhood title that still sat strangely in the new man's ears, "you really don't come out often, do you? You're looking at everything as if you've never seen a city before."

"Maybe I haven't," he said, which was more true than she could know. "Not properly."

They roamed. She showed him the important places with the easy confidence of someone who had grown up in these alleys: the herb market where alchemy stocks changed hands under formation seals and bitter green smells rose from crushed leaves; the weapon stalls where spirit steel hummed loud enough to itch the teeth; the tea houses where information cost more than the tea; the broad avenue that led toward the practice halls and the administrative towers of the local demonic authority. She pointed and explained, and she laughed once when a street performer exhaled a ribbon of black fire and nearly singed a mortal's hat. Yan Chi listened and mapped and stole glances at her profile between landmarks the way a man steals fruit.

At the herb market she made him smell a jar of crushed spirit mint, and the sharp green scent cleared his head like cold water. At the weapon stalls she warned him not to touch a humming blade without asking, and he watched a smith quench a spirit-steel dagger in a trough that steamed with something thicker than water. Outside a tea house, two elders in black robes argued in near-whispers about a border dispute three mountains away, and Cao Ning pulled him past before either of them noticed a branch young master eavesdropping. The city unfolded itself around him like a map drawn in flesh and qi and noise, and for the first time since he had woken in silk sheets with a stranger's face, Jinling felt like a place he might one day own a corner of rather than a place that owned him.

They stopped at a tea house with a balcony over the canal. She ordered for both of them without asking, and they sat side by side on the bench by the railing with the city flowing below them, boats nosing through the green water and a woman on the far bank beating laundry against the stones. The waiter brought a pot of chrysanthemum tea and a plate of sesame cakes, and Cao Ning poured with the neat, precise movements of a girl whose mother had drilled her in etiquette since she could walk.

When she leaned forward to fill his cup, the deep neckline of her robe fell open.

It wasn't much, only the width of two fingers, but at that angle and that distance it was everything. The inner curves of her breasts hung forward and pressed together, pale and full, the weight of them gathered by gravity into a fuller shape than they had standing, and the silk on the near side had slid outward far enough that he could see the whole smooth slope of her left breast down to where it rounded under. Along the edge where the cloth had rubbed against her skin all morning there was a faint flush of pink, like the mark a ribbon leaves, and in the shadow below it the blunt point of her nipple pushed out the silk and swung a little as she tilted the pot.

The tea streamed into his cup. Her breasts swayed with the pour, settling against each other with a slow give that made the cleavage between them shift and deepen. A bead of sweat ran down from her collarbone into that valley and disappeared.

He looked out at the canal very quickly.

She sat back without seeming to notice, settled the pot on its tray, blew on her own tea, and asked him whether it was true that he had been cultivating again.

"A little," he said.

"You look different." She studied him over the rim of her cup with her head tilted. "Your shoulders. And your eyes. You used to look at the ground all the time, Big brother Yan Chi. Now you look at everything." Her lips twitched. "Some things more than others."

He choked on his tea, and she laughed so hard that a pair of old men at the next table frowned at her, and she covered her mouth with her hand and laughed through her fingers, her eyes shining, and for a moment he forgot about the system and the points and the dead man he used to be, and simply liked her.

As they walked together, people looked at him with jealousy. It was naked, ugly jealousy, and it showed on men's faces as their eyes flicked from Cao Ning's bouncing breasts to Yan Chi's ordinary profile and back again, as though checking a sum that refused to add up. Some stared at her ass until their companions elbowed them. Some sneered loudly enough for him to hear: that weakling, with her? A young cultivator in a sect-green robe actually stopped in the middle of the road and turned to follow her with his eyes, and the porter behind him walked straight into his back and cursed.

He enjoyed those faces. All they could do was watch, and she was beside him.

At a narrow stretch by the cloth-dyers' quarter, the crowd thickened until the street became a single shuffling body, and she was pushed against his side. Her arm pressed into his, and with it the outer curve of her breast, full and warm through two layers of silk, flattening a little against his upper arm with every step and swelling back when the crowd eased. He felt the firm round weight of it and, once, when a cart forced everyone sideways, the small hard point of her nipple dragging across his sleeve. She didn't pull away. She was talking about a cousin's wedding and didn't seem to notice at all, and he walked the whole length of that street with his arm held perfectly still and his cock straining against his sash.

When the street widened again a breeze came off the canal and caught her robe. It lifted the side panels and swept them back so that for three long steps both her thighs were bare almost to the hip, and the middle panel was pressed flat against her body by the wind. For a heartbeat the thin silk clung to the mound between her legs and outlined her completely, the plump curve of it, the soft seam down the centre where the cloth sank into her, the faint dampness that made the blue go darker in a narrow line. Then the wind dropped, the panels fell, and the cloth loosened, and the city pretended it hadn't seen anything while every man within twenty paces had.

Fuck. Even walking she's a problem.

The chain at her hip clicked faintly when she stepped over a puddle. Her silver hair kept blowing across her bare chest, and every time she brushed it back, her fingers slid over the inner slope of her breast and the flesh moved under them. His newly restored cock twitched with every one of those small, careless touches.

They talked about ordinary things, the weather and a cousin's wedding and whether the herb prices had risen, while under the ordinary words his mind catalogued the bounce of her breasts, the flex of her thigh when she climbed a step, the sweet clean scent of her when the crowd pressed them briefly closer. Hours thinned without him resenting the loss. Their path brought them at last to the practice hall, a wide compound of packed earth and weapon racks where cultivators drilled martial forms under the barked corrections of instructors. Qi cracked the air in short bursts. Sweat and dust rose together. Yan Chi decided to enter. Curiosity pulled him, and hunger to measure himself against other bodies now that fifth-stage heat lived in his muscles.
