Nan Mo knew nothing about what had happened earlier. After waking from her afternoon nap, she realized her mother had gone out. She glanced at the clock, then as usual washed vegetables and started cooking.
Over the past two days, her parents’ health had improved quite a bit. Nan Mo found herself thinking again about the older brother she had never met in either lifetime. She wondered whether he would be injured, whether he was healthy. Sending a random bottle of water to him would obviously be inappropriate, so she could only let her brother suffer for now.
While she was thinking about this, far away in the Lanzhou Military District, Nan Xiao suddenly sneezed hard. The soldiers under him teased him for being weak, and the group laughed and jostled each other on their way to the mess hall.
Just as the food was finished, Father Nan and Mother Nan arrived home.
Before eating, neither of them said much. They simply washed their hands and sat down. However, they picked food for Nan Mo far more often than usual that day.
Helpless, Nan Mo dodged another piece of braised pork her father tried to add. “Dad, I can’t even finish what’s already in my bowl.”
Mother Nan gently patted her head. “Take your time. No rush. If you can’t finish, leave it for your father.”
After dinner, Father Nan went to wash the dishes, while Nan Mo and her mother sat on the sofa talking about Xue Mei’s visit earlier.
When he finished, Father Nan walked over. “Xiao Mo, what do you think about going to the countryside?”
Hearing her father ask so formally, Nan Mo immediately sat up straight. “Dad, Mom, I want to go. And I’m confident I can live well there.”
She had decided to tell them about the space. Over the past few days she had seen their inner struggle. She was afraid that even if she went to the countryside, their love for her might push them to rush to bring her back to the city and end up making some mistake.
Besides, they were the family she had longed for across two lifetimes. There was no reason for her to be able to live well and still let them worry.
There was another reason. In the book, there had been a plot where Luo Ci’s dowry was discovered and secretly transported away, with more than half stolen. When Nan Mo married, Luo Ci had gone to retrieve it for her, only to find much of it missing. Those items could not be exposed, so Luo Ci had not dared make a fuss. She swallowed her anger and gave Nan Mo all the remaining money and jewels, keeping only one or two pieces of jewelry for a future daughter in law.
If she told her parents she had a space, then anything at home that should not appear could be stored there. There was nowhere in the world safer than her space.
At that moment, the couple heard their daughter say she was confident she could live well, and they assumed she was only trying to comfort them.
Who would have thought that Nan Mo suddenly grabbed their hands. With a single thought, she brought them into the space.
It was her first time bringing anyone inside, and she had worried they might not be able to enter. When she saw both parents appear, she was overjoyed.
Father Nan and Mother Nan, however, were clearly startled. They stared at everything around them in disbelief.
“Xiao Mo… this…” Mother Nan clutched her daughter’s hand tightly, afraid she might disappear, not daring to let go.
Father Nan wrapped both arms protectively around his wife and daughter while scanning their surroundings.
“Dad, Mom, don’t worry. This is my space.” She linked an arm through each of theirs and led them around.
“This is spiritual spring water. I add two drops whenever I cook, so my dishes taste especially good. Also, have you noticed your bodies have felt better lately? That’s because of it too.”
The couple exchanged a glance and walked to the well, peering down into it.
Just a few drops a day could improve one’s health. What kind of miraculous treasure was this?
Before they could think further, Nan Mo led them into the wooden house.
Inside, the sofa, cabinets, and appliances were things they had never seen before. She explained each one and let them try them out. The two found everything fascinating and played with the items like delighted children.
After leaving Nan Mo’s bedroom, she guided them into the suite next door. As soon as they entered, they saw a family photo on the bedside table.
Mother Nan picked it up. The people in it were clearly their family of four, yet she had no memory of the photo. Nan Mo had said the strange items in the space were not from this era, and such a clear color photograph could not possibly be produced with current technology.
So…
Father Nan noticed his wife’s questioning gaze and looked at the photo as well. He was equally shocked.
Nan Mo did not keep them waiting long. “Dad, Mom, actually I’ve lived two lifetimes. In both lives I was your daughter. In the last one, we were together for twenty two loving years. Then a plane crash took you and my brother away. While grieving, I accidentally obtained this space and received a warning from heaven that I would return here, merge souls with this Nan Mo, and meet you again.”
She simplified the story as much as possible while speaking. At the same time, she opened a wardrobe. “These are your clothes and jewelry from your previous life. I brought them all.”
Looking at the room full of items, the couple felt their hearts ache for her. Had their Xiao Mo really been all alone in that life? When she packed these things, how heartbroken must she have been?
Nan Mo then led them to the storage room door. The moment she opened it, they were struck speechless by the supplies inside. Their heartache for her surged to its peak.
Mother Nan hugged her daughter and cried uncontrollably. Father Nan stood beside them with reddened eyes and clenched fists, gazing at her in pain.
This girl they had cherished and protected in their palms, how could she have gone through all that?
When she lost them, how devastated must she have been? Without family by her side, had she been afraid?
Just because of a few dreams, she had sold everything and rushed toward them. What if it had only been a dream?
He could not even imagine how much hardship a young girl must have endured to gather so many supplies.
In truth, they were overthinking. Nan Mo had not suffered much at all collecting them. In her previous life, as long as she had money she could buy anything. Unlike now, when buying even a little extra rice or flour was impossible.
“Mom, it’s all in the past. I didn’t tell you this to make you feel sorry for me. I just want you to know that even if I go to the countryside, I can still live well.”
She hugged her mother back and gave her father a look, signaling him to help comfort her.
Receiving the hint, Father Nan gently patted his wife’s back. “Alright, alright. Xiao Mo is back with us now. We should be happy. Don’t cry.”
Nan Mo added, “Exactly, Mom. Come help me check whether the things I bought are enough, and see if I should get anything else.”
Hearing that, Mother Nan wiped her tears and began examining the supplies in the storage room.
There were so many that even after wandering around for days one could not see everything. Eventually her eyes grew dizzy from looking, and she realized Nan Mo had been teasing her. She could not help marveling at how complete the preparations were, then her heart ached again for the daughter who had once faced everything alone.
Seeing her mother about to cry again, Nan Mo brought her to the living room and used her mind to take out items suitable for her parents.
“Skincare products, makeup, perfume, tissues, sanitary pads, hair dryer, electric razor, fountain pens, thermos cups, massagers, an old style electric fan, fabric…”
Watching objects appear one after another out of thin air, the couple went from astonishment, to acceptance, to numbness. Soon the living room was so full they could barely step anywhere.
“That’s enough, that’s enough…” Father Nan hurriedly stopped her from pulling out more.
“Ah, right!”
Two cups of spiritual spring water appeared in Nan Mo’s hands. “Dad, Mom, this is spiritual spring water. It can cleanse the marrow and transform the body. It will hurt after drinking it, but once the pain passes, just take a bath and you’ll be fine.”
After hearing that, Father Nan picked up the cup and drank without hesitation.
Seeing this, Nan Mo quickly urged him to go into the bathroom, telling him not to be afraid of the pain and to endure for a while.
Mother Nan watched him get pushed inside. After finishing her own cup, she also went obediently into the bedroom bathroom.
Nan Mo called to them from outside that she had placed fresh clothes by the doors.
This body of hers had not yet undergone marrow cleansing, so after settling them, she went into the bathroom in her own room.
When the three of them finally came out and met again in the living room, three or four hours had passed.
They looked at each other, all refreshed from the inside out, feeling a level of comfort in their bodies they had never experienced before. The couple sighed in unison at the miracle of the spiritual spring water.
They also agreed that, no matter what happened, they would protect Xiao Mo’s secret. They understood very well that a person may be innocent, yet possessing a treasure is enough to invite trouble.
