“Why does your room smell like detergent?”
“I like being clean.”
“The sofa has it too.”
“I accidentally dropped some pizza on it yesterday, so I was cleaning the stain.”
“How come the mirror on the wardrobe is gone?”
“I accidentally broke it.”
“The wardrobe door has signs of having been repaired.”
“Didn’t I tell you? I accidentally bumped into the wardrobe, broke the mirror, and messed up the door too.”
“Then whose is the pink thong in the wardrobe?”
“…”
Mike, who was peacefully eating the pepper-salted green beans on his plate, suddenly paused and looked up at his mother, who was sitting beside him with her hands crossed under her chin and a half-smile on her face.
A thong?
Pink?
Alice does have one, but didn’t she put it on when she left this morning?
Trying to frame me again?
Mike’s eyelids twitched slightly.
He thought this to himself, but quickly dismissed it, because if his mother were trying to trap him, it was unlikely she would be able to specify the color so accurately.
Could it be that Alice went out this morning without wearing it?
Mike pursed his lips, fell silent for a moment, then looked up, expressionless.
“It’s mine.”
“Cough, cough!”
Bell Lance, sitting across the dining table and pretending to read the newspaper in his hands, suddenly began to cough violently.
After some scrambling, Bell wiped the corners of his mouth with a napkin and looked at Mike, who was sitting opposite him, in exasperation.
“Son, you can’t just say things like that.”
Bell was speechless and even more flustered.
He thought about how for generations, the men in the Lance family had all been real men, and he certainly didn’t want the Lance family’s genes to change in his generation.
Mike shrugged without explaining anything, instead looking directly at his mother, Julia, who was also slightly dumbfounded.
“My dear Mother, do you have any other questions?”
Julia shook her head blankly, “You’re so ruthless. I have no more questions. You’ve grown up, son, being so ruthless to yourself.”
Mike smiled slightly.
“Thank you.”
Julia then looked at Mike curiously.
“Son, that underwear is so small, can you fit into it?”
Mike’s eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
He took a deep breath and swallowed the green beans in his mouth.
“Thanks for your concern, but if I squeeze a bit, it’s still possible.”
Mike finished his meal in no time, stood up, said “I’m done,” and stomped upstairs.
Once Mike’s figure disappeared at the top of the stairs, the corners of Julia’s mouth curled up slightly.
She looked at Bell and chuckled.
“Little guy, trying to fight me? I’ve never lost.”
“Of course!” Bell didn’t hesitate to offer his affirmation, then shook his head and said.
“He’s seventeen already. It’s normal for him to have a girlfriend. Since he doesn’t want to tell us who it is, it’s better if we don’t ask.”
Julia glared at Bell.
“Who are you helping?”
Bell shivered and put on a fawning smile.
“You, of course.”
Julia finally relaxed her expression and nodded to herself.
“That’s right, we’re on the same team. Forget it. Since our son has a girlfriend, how about we don’t take him to Paris for vacation tomorrow? First love is always very fleeting.”
Bell’s eyes lit up.
He didn’t have to think of an excuse this year; that was great.
So he nodded and said with deep agreement, “I agree.”
The next day.
Mike listened expressionlessly as his parents, whose attribute was being drama queens but who were pretending to be genuinely shocked, explained why they couldn’t take him on the trip to Paris this vacation.
Nothing else.
Just used to it.
Ever since he entered the ninth grade, for this pair of dramatic parents, his vacation was actually their vacation.
But every time they went on vacation, they could almost always come up with different excuses to deliberately prevent Mike from joining them.
If there were a “Worst Parents” selection, Julia and Bell wouldn’t even need to be voted on; they would go straight to the top of the throne.
However, Mike was used to it too.
Half an hour later, Mike saw off his parents, who had come in a rush and were leaving in a rush, dragging two suitcases of vacation luggage.
Soon, looking at the taillights of the Ferrari disappearing from view, Mike couldn’t help but sigh.
If he didn’t have the memory of coming out of Julia’s body, he would almost suspect whether he was actually their biological son.
Before long, Mike also left home.
The yellow Pajero drove on the town roads, quickly leaving Forks and entering the mist-shrouded forest roads.
After driving for a while, Mike steered the vehicle onto an unpaved, unmarked path.
After driving for another two hundred meters or so, the path suddenly opened up, revealing a well-maintained lawn.
On the lawn, six unpruned cedar trees shaded the entire meadow with their broad, sprawling branches and leaves.
These trees held up their protective shade, which extended all the way to the outer walls of the house.
At this moment, a silver Volvo was already parked at the entrance of the house.
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
Alice and Mike shared a kiss.
Her cool lips lingered against his a moment longer than necessary, soft and teasing, before she pulled back with a small, satisfied smile.
After letting go, Alice very naturally took Mike’s right hand and walked toward the front door, saying, “Edward and Bella just arrived too.”
Mike nodded.
Bella Swan was here this time to meet her parents-in-law.
Then what about me?
Mike, whose hand was being held by Alice, couldn’t help but wonder curiously.
Entering the house, the inside of the house was very bright, very open, and very spacious.
There should have been several rooms originally, but most of the walls on the first floor had been knocked down, turning it into an exceptionally vast space.
The wall at the back of the house facing south had been completely replaced with large, solid panes of glass, and beyond the shade of the cedar trees, on the sprawling lawn, a wide river was fully visible.
A magnificent spiral staircase occupied the west side of the room.
The walls, the soaring ceiling, the wooden floors, and the thick carpets were all in various shades of white.
The members of the Cullen family were over by the open kitchen.
Bella and Edward Cullen were there too.
Carlisle Cullen, the head of the Cullen family who forever maintained the appearance of a twenty-three-year-old, saw Mike being led in by Alice and spoke first.
“Welcome, Mike.”
Mike replied politely.
“Thank you, Mr. Cullen.”
Mike was different from Bella.
Bella was an outsider.
Mike, on the other hand, was a local born and raised in the town.
Moreover, he attended the same school as most of the Cullen family, sometimes even the same classroom, not to mention that Mike had once worked at Carlisle’s clinic.
Therefore, the way they faced Mike was different from how they faced Bella.
Simply put, after Mike appeared, the Cullen family’s focus shifted away from Bella and onto Mike.
