This was Mu Wantang’s nth attempt at “running away.”
And once again, she was hopelessly lost.
She blamed it all on the Manor being too large—so large that even with a carefully planned escape route and a map of the Manor clutched in her hand, she still ended up plunging headfirst into the lawn Maze.
Wearing a cotton nightgown, her pure white bunny slippers now stained with mud, Mu Wantang stomped her feet in frustration.
Fuming, she grumbled that Bo Shiyue had built this Maze with ulterior motives!
She had slipped out at the first light of dawn, and now the sun had climbed to its zenith overhead.
Thirsty and hungry, Mu Wantang decided to escape first, eat her fill, and try running away another day.
Lifting her foot in its bunny slipper, she kicked the Maze wall hard, leaving a deep imprint.
The uniform grassy walls made it impossible to tell east from west.
After counting carefully and circling five times only to see the same familiar footprint again, Mu Wantang rolled her eyes silently and plopped down on the ground in a mix of anger and vexation.
Picking up a twig, she scratched at the ground aimlessly, muttering under her breath.
Complaining about how inhuman Bo Shiyue was.
Inside the Manor.
At the break of dawn, Bo Shiyue had already smashed a vase and shattered a window in his room in a fit of rage.
Startled, all the servants hurriedly got up and gathered, watching as the man, noble as a god, descended the stairs step by step. His aura was cold and restrained, his eyes dark and intense.
His voice carried a bone-chilling coldness: “Find her!”
A single word.
The servants immediately scattered, knowing that the young lady was attempting to run away again.
The farthest she had ever made it was leaving the hillside where the Manor stood, only to be found standing on the highway below. A police officer had tucked her into a patrol car and notified Mr. Bo to come pick her up.
With each escape attempt, the layout of the Manor underwent subtle changes—so slight they were almost imperceptible. Yet, the young lady’s escape plans repeatedly ended in failure.
Still trapped in the Maze, Mu Wantang had shifted from squatting to sprawling completely on the ground. The sun beat down, making her feel stuffy and hot, and she wiped her face haphazardly with her small hand.
“Bo Shiyue, I’ll give you three seconds to appear, or else—” Mu Wantang tilted her head, thinking for a moment. “Or else, I’ll bite you!”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than a familiar voice sounded above her. Bo Shiyue leaped down from the top of the grassy wall, appearing before her as if descending from the heavens.
His voice carried a hint of playful amusement. “Where do you plan to bite?”
The moment Bo Shiyue spoke, Mu Wantang’s already sun-flushed cheeks turned several shades redder.
Embarrassed, she quickly buried her face in her arms, refusing to look up, while still waving the little twig in her hand.
“Go away, you big meanie! I don’t want you anymore!”
The little one could curse him all she wanted, but she absolutely could not say she didn’t want him!
The slight joy in Bo Shiyue’s eyes from finding her instantly turned to anger. His voice dropped low and cold. “What did you say?”
Mu Wantang immediately turned Cowardly and changed her tune. “I said, if you didn’t find me before dark, then I wouldn’t want you anymore!”
Just then, her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl—she was truly hungry.
She looked up with a pitiful pout, her expression clearly unhappy.
This wasn’t cowardice—she was just hungry.
Once she had eaten her fill, she would take him on again!
Hmph!
When Bo Shiyue crouched before her, Mu Wantang shrank back in fright, yet still couldn’t escape being pulled into his embrace.
As Bo Shiyue took out a handkerchief to meticulously wipe her little face, she found herself inches away from his indescribably handsome features. Mu Wantang shamelessly swallowed hard—his lashes were longer and thicker than hers, and his loose pajama collar revealed a tantalizing view from his Adam’s apple downward when he leaned forward.
Then, she wrapped her arms around his waist.
Drawing closer, then closer still.
While he was wiping her face, she suddenly pecked a quick kiss on his chin.
Grinning like a cat that got the cream.
“I didn’t run away this time, so don’t be angry, okay?”
Before her words faded, he swept her up horizontally, her bunny slippers falling to the floor. Nestled soft and pliant in his arms, she became inexplicably docile.
Bo Shiyue’s previously furious expression softened at her initiative.
But remembering how this girl never learned—forgetting pain once wounds healed, fleeing without warning, this time even getting herself dirty in the Maze—his heart ached unbearably.
He responded with a cold “Hmm” and carried her outward.
Mu Wantang squirmed discontentedly in his arms, her slender legs kicking aimlessly. “My bunnies! My bunnies!”
Relenting, Bo Shiyue turned back to retrieve her bunny slippers.
Outside the Maze, the butler and servants waited at the entrance, one quickly offering a small cake. Last night, Mr. Bo had refused her the final piece, worrying about indigestion, making her sulk sleeplessly until dawn when she attempted escape.
Delighted by the long-awaited strawberry cake, Mu Wantang smiled at Bo Shiyue, though his face remained stern and unapproachable.
Back in the villa, she was settled on the sofa.
Bo Shiyue personally dampened a pure white towel, knelt before her, tested the temperature carefully, then cradled her small foot onto it.
Her delicate foot wriggled restlessly.
“Too hot?”
He looked up, voice thick with concern, fearing the towel’s warmth might scald her tender skin.
“Ticklish!”
Pouting in dissatisfaction, Mu Wantang suspected he was seizing revenge—he’d definitely tickled her sole!
After finishing the cake, she snorted haughtily at him, withdrew her foot from his grasp, and turned to head upstairs.
“Don’t move!” came his sharp command.
Mu Wantang glanced down—she stood on the carpet, frozen, not daring to budge.
Bo Shiyue tossed the towel to a servant, swept her up, and carried her to the dining room. How could one small cake suffice for her appetite?
Servants brought prepared dishes. Once full, Mu Wantang clutched her stomach, declaring she needed a nap to recharge before plotting her next escape.
Bo Shiyue pinched her chin, his deep magnetic voice laced with temptation. “Full now?”
She nodded innocently, only to be hoisted over his shoulder toward the staircase.
Mu Wantang: I’m done for!
Her legs had just kicked out in an attempt to struggle when a certain someone landed a slap on her little bottom.
The punishment for her failed escape attempt was Mu Wantang tearfully begging for mercy for a long time, “Oppa, darling, uncle…”
Finally, she reluctantly called out, “Husband~”
Only then did he let her off.
