That voice.

It was him.

The same low, calm voice that had filled the library only moments ago.

Mia looked at the empty chair beside them and answered first.

“No.”

Without hesitation, Leo stepped around the shelf and sat down beside Pearl.

Too close.

Far too close.

Pearl’s fingers tightened around the book in her hands.

Her breathing became uneven.

Her mind raced.

He’s here.

Right beside me.

The words Mia had said earlier echoed inside her head.

He doesn’t like the company of girls… he just keeps his distance.

But Pearl remembered Sofia.

The way he had looked at her.

The coldness in his voice.

The clear rejection.

Her chest tightened.

If someone like Sofia—beautiful, admired, confident—couldn’t even get close to him…

Then what was she?

Just a simple girl.

Ordinary.

Someone he would probably never even notice.

And if he did…

what if he looked at her the same way?

What if he rejected her too?

No.

She couldn’t bear that.

Not even the thought of it.

Quickly, Pearl lowered her head.

Her soft hair slipped forward like a curtain, hiding most of her face.

Her trembling fingers turned the page of her book, though her eyes weren’t reading anything.

Mia noticed immediately.

Pearl looked at her and whispered, her voice barely audible—

“Mia… let’s go.”

Leo, who had just opened his book, paused.

That voice.

Soft.

Light.

Barely above a whisper.

But it caught his attention instantly.

His eyes shifted toward the girl beside him.

Her face was hidden behind her hair.

Yet something about her voice—

something about the way it flowed—

felt strangely familiar.

His chest tightened.

Why?

Why did it feel like he had heard it before?

Pearl felt his gaze on her.

Her heart raced faster.

He’s looking.

She could feel it.

And somehow, it made her even more nervous.

Leo’s eyes narrowed slightly.

He leaned just a little, trying to catch a glimpse of her face behind the curtain of her hair.

And then—

Pearl realized it.

He was going to see her.

Panic rushed through her.

Before he could, she snapped her book shut, grabbed her bag, and held Mia’s wrist tightly.

“Let’s go.”

Mia blinked in confusion.

“What happened?”

But Pearl didn’t answer.

She pulled Mia up and rushed out of the library.

Fast.

Almost running.

Leo froze.

His eyes followed her retreating figure.

What just happened?

Why did she run?

And why—

why did her voice feel so familiar?

Then his eyes dropped to the table.

A notebook.

No.

A diary.

She had left it behind.

Leo picked it up slowly.

The cover was soft blue, worn at the edges like it had been carried everywhere.

He opened it.

And something slipped out.

A tiny silver charm.

Leo caught it in his palm.

A delicate crescent moon.

With a small star hanging beneath it.

Simple.

Yet strangely beautiful.

His eyes stayed on it for a moment.

It felt personal.

Like it belonged only to her.

He turned back to the diary.

The pages were filled with neat handwriting.

Songs.

Poems.

Fragments of thoughts.

Little dreams.

And then—

his eyes stopped.

His breath caught.

There.

Written clearly across the page—

the same melody.

The same song.

The exact one.

The one he had heard in the classroom.

The one beneath the tree.

The one in the garden.

His hands trembled.

His heartbeat pounded hard against his chest.

It was her.

His Melody Girl.

She had been sitting right beside him.

Right there.

So close.

And he missed her.

Again.

Leo clenched the diary tighter.

His jaw tightened.

He stood up abruptly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor.

His friends looked over.

But Leo didn’t care.

He rushed out of the library, holding the diary tightly in one hand and the silver moon charm in the other.

His eyes searched everywhere.

The hallway.

The stairs.

The garden.

The entrance.

Nothing.

She was gone.

Again.

His breathing grew heavier.

His fists clenched.

Why?

Why did fate keep doing this?

Every time he got close—

she slipped away.

Frustration burned inside him.

Without thinking—

he slammed his fist against the wall.

The sharp sound echoed through the corridor.

A few students turned to look.

But Leo didn’t care.

His dark eyes burned.

Not with anger toward her.

But toward fate.

Toward himself.

She had been right there.

And still—

he let her disappear.

His eyes dropped to the diary again.

Then to the silver moon charm.

The small crescent glimmered under the light.

A strange calm slowly replaced the storm inside him.

This was proof.

Proof she was real.

Proof she existed.

Proof she belonged somewhere near him.

And now—

he had something of hers.

Something she carried close.

His fingers closed around the charm.

The feelings inside him were no longer simple curiosity.

They had grown.

Stronger.

Deeper.

Possessive.

Day by day.

Without seeing her face—

without knowing her name—

he already wanted to find her.

And now there was no turning back.

Leo closed the diary slowly.

His voice dropped into a whisper.

A promise only for himself.

“I’ll find you.”

His grip tightened around the moon charm.

“And when I do…”

He looked at the tiny moon in his hand.

There was something dangerous in them now.

Something certain.

“You’ll be mine.”

And somewhere far from the library—

Pearl slowed down, her chest rising and falling heavily.

Her heart still trembling.

Completely unaware—

that she had left behind the very things that could lead Leo straight to her.
