The next day was Sunday.
No school.
The house felt lighter.
Warmer.
Pearl woke up later than usual, sunlight brushing softly against her face.
At breakfast, her father smiled.
“We’re all going out tonight.”
Pearl looked up.
“Where?”
“A movie.”
Her eyes sparkled instantly.
Mathew laughed.
“There’s your excitement back.”
By evening, everyone got ready.
Her mother wore a soft cream dress.
Her father, as always, brought flowers for her before leaving.
Pearl smiled watching them.
Love.
It looked peaceful.
Warm.
Safe.
Exactly like the stories she had grown up believing in.
The city lights glowed beautifully as they reached the theatre.
It was crowded.
Families.
Friends.
Couples.
Laughter everywhere.
Pearl walked beside her mother while Mathew stayed close to their father.
As they stepped inside—
a familiar voice reached her ears.
Low.
Calm.
Deep.
Her heartbeat stopped.
That voice.
Leo.
Pearl froze.
Her eyes searched through the crowd.
He was here.
Her chest tightened instantly.
The library.
Her diary.
Everything returned at once.
Instinctively, she lowered her face.
No.
He must not see her.
Not after yesterday.
Not after she had run.
But—
her curiosity rose.
She had heard his voice.
Felt his presence.
Heard everyone talk about him.
But she had never seen his face.
Not once.
Her fingers tightened around her dress.
What if I just look?
She wouldn’t show her face.
But she could see his.
Just once.
The crowd made it difficult.
Too many people.
Too much movement.
She stepped aside.
Trying.
Looking.
But still—
nothing.
Pearl sighed softly.
Then she looked up and whispered in her heart—
God… just once.
Please let me see him.
And as if fate answered—
the crowd shifted.
And there—
he stood.
Pearl forgot how to breathe.
For the first time—
she saw Leo.
He was taller than she had imagined.
Standing there so effortlessly, as if the world moved around him instead of the other way around.
His black hair fell softly over his forehead.
Messy.
Perfect.
Like midnight touched by wind.
His sharp jawline looked almost unreal.
Strong.
Untouchable.
But it was his eyes—
those dark, deep eyes—
that stole her breath.
They looked like a silent night before rain.
Still.
Mysterious.
Holding storms no one else could see.
His gaze carried coldness.
Yet beneath it—
something strangely warm.
Something that pulled her in.
His skin glowed softly under the golden theatre lights.
Making him look almost unreal.
Like a prince from the fairytales she loved—
except far more dangerous.
There was no smile.
No softness.
And yet—
something about him made it impossible to look away.
A quiet gravity.
A silent pull.
As if his presence alone spoke louder than words.
For the first time—
Pearl understood how someone could become the center of every gaze without even trying.
And looking at him felt like staring at a dream she was never meant to touch.
Her heart trembled.
Fast.
Uneven.
As if her heart had known him long before her eyes ever did.
And then—
Leo suddenly turned.
As if he had felt someone staring.
Pearl’s breath caught.
His eyes moved slowly.
Toward her.
Closer.
Closer.
Was he—
looking at her?
And for the first time—
Pearl forgot to hide.
