The morning sun had just begun to spread its golden light across the sky when Pearl opened her eyes.

Today was different.

Today was her first day at her new school.Full novel: Until She Looked Back: A Story Of Silent Love Volume 1 — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Ever since her family had shifted here, everything around her felt unfamiliar, yet exciting.

A new house, new streets, new faces…

and now, a new school.

But Pearl was not nervous.

She was the kind of girl who carried warmth wherever she went, and deep inside, she believed that no place could stay strange for long if you filled it with kindness.

Standing in front of her mirror, she adjusted her uniform carefully, smoothing the wrinkles from her sleeves.

Her brown hair rested softly over her shoulders, and her warm eyes sparkled with excitement.

She smiled at herself.

“New beginnings,” she whispered softly.

Downstairs, the smell of breakfast filled the house.

Her mother had prepared her favorite meal, knowing how special today was for her.

Pearl sat at the table, eating happily while talking about how she wanted her first day to go.

Her elder brother, however, sat wrapped in a blanket, sniffling because of the flu.

“Looks like you’ll have to survive your first day without me,” he teased weakly.

Pearl pouted.

“That’s unfair.

You were supposed to show me around.”

He chuckled.

“You’ll be fine.

You make friends faster than anyone I know.”

Pearl smiled proudly.

“That’s true.”

After breakfast, she picked up her bag and stood near the door.

“Mom, I’m leaving!”

Her mother walked over, fixing Pearl’s collar gently before kissing her forehead.

“Best of luck for your first day, dear.”

Pearl’s lips curved into a bright smile.

“Thank you.”

And just like that, she stepped out into the morning.

The school was close enough to walk, so Pearl decided to go on foot.

The roads were still quiet, the world half-awake, wrapped in the softness of morning.

A cool breeze danced around her, brushing against her cheeks and carrying the scent of wet earth and blooming flowers.

Pearl hummed a little tune to herself as she walked, her footsteps light, almost matching the rhythm of her melody.

She liked mornings like this.

Peaceful.

Quiet.

Full of possibility.

When she reached the school gates, she realized she had arrived much earlier than everyone else.

The building stood still and silent, almost dreamlike in the soft golden light.

Walking through the empty hallways felt strange.

Her footsteps echoed softly against the walls, the sound mixing with the faint tune still escaping her lips.

When she entered her classroom, it was completely empty.

For a moment, Pearl simply stood there, looking around.

Rows of desks, sunlight spilling through tall windows, dust particles floating lazily in the air like tiny stars.

Everything felt still…

untouched.

She placed her bag on one of the desks near the window and began arranging her books neatly.

Her fingers moved carefully, her excitement making her unusually focused.

After finishing, she glanced at the blackboard.

Out of habit, she picked up a piece of chalk and wrote the date in neat handwriting.

Under it, she wrote the thought of the day:

“Every new beginning carries its own magic.”

She stepped back, staring at it for a moment before smiling to herself.

Then, without realizing it, she began humming again.

Softly at first.

A simple melody.

Light as air.

Pearl walked slowly around the classroom, her fingers brushing against desks as if tracing invisible stories.

The morning sunlight wrapped around her like silk, making everything look warm and unreal.

Her humming grew clearer, sweeter, filling the silence like ripples spreading across still water.

It was not loud.

But it was enough to make the empty room feel alive.

Her voice carried something strange within it — a softness that felt like home, a sweetness that felt almost impossible to ignore.

It drifted out through the half-open classroom door, slipping into the silent corridor like a secret waiting to be found.

Pearl closed her eyes for a moment, lost in her own world.

In her mind, she was nowhere near a classroom.

She was somewhere far away — in fields of endless flowers, beneath a sky painted in pink and gold, where the wind sang back to her and the world felt endless.

She hummed as if speaking to that invisible world.

And somewhere beyond that silence…

someone heard it.

A boy walking through the corridor stopped in his tracks.

The sound was faint, almost unreal.

Yet it pulled at him in a way he could not explain.

His brows furrowed.

Who was here this early?

And why did that voice feel so…

different?

Without thinking, his feet began moving toward the sound.

Step by step.

Closer.

Closer.

As if the melody itself was guiding him.

Inside the classroom, Pearl remained unaware, still humming under the morning light, while fate quietly brought someone closer to her.

Someone who would change everything.

Leo had reached school earlier than usual that morning.

But he had no idea that today, for the first time in his life, a simple humming voice would make him stop…

and look.

With love Kiaan
