The morning classes had just begun.
The classroom buzzed with quiet conversations as students settled into their seats.
Mathew stood near the door, holding his books, scanning the unfamiliar faces around him.
Being new never bothered him much.
But starting in a new class always came with unwanted attention.
A group of boys sitting at the back noticed him.
One of them smirked.
“So you’re the new guy?”
Mathew looked at him calmly.
“Looks like it.”
The boy leaned back in his chair, amusement dancing in his eyes.
“You should know how things work here.”
Mathew raised an eyebrow.
“And how’s that?”
Another boy laughed.
“Simple.
Don’t act too smart.”
Mathew’s expression remained calm.
He was never the type to be intimidated.
That only irritated them more.
One of the boys stepped closer, mocking him.
“What’s with the attitude?
Think you’re special?”
Mathew let out a small sigh.
“No.
I just don’t waste time on pointless things.”
The boys’ faces darkened.
A few nearby students started watching.
Before the situation could grow worse—
A calm voice cut through the tension.
“That’s enough.”
The room went quiet.
Leo stood by his desk, his dark eyes fixed on them.
His face showed nothing.
But his gaze alone carried enough weight to stop them.
The boys stiffened.
Everyone knew Leo.
And everyone knew when he spoke, things ended there.
But one boy—Jason—didn’t back down.
He had always disliked Leo.
The attention Leo got.
The respect he carried.
The way people listened to him.
It irritated him.
Jason stepped forward.
“Stay out of this, Leo.
This doesn’t concern you.”
Leo looked at him, calm as ever.
His voice was low.
“It concerns me when someone mistakes foolishness for strength.”
A few students exchanged glances.
Jason’s jaw tightened.
“What did you say?”
Leo didn’t even move.
“If you have this much energy, use it on something useful.
Maybe your grades would improve.”
A few boys at the back laughed.
Jason’s face burned red with anger.
Before he could respond—
The classroom door opened.
The teacher walked in.
Everyone immediately returned to their seats.
Jason clenched his fists, anger rising in his chest, but he forced himself to sit down.
Mathew looked at Leo for a moment.
“Thanks,” he said simply.
Leo gave a small nod.
“You’re new?” Leo asked.
Mathew nodded.
“Yeah.”
Leo looked at him calmly.
“If anyone gives you trouble, tell the teachers.
Don’t waste your energy on people like that.”
Mathew studied him carefully.
So this was Leo.
The same Leo everyone talked about.
He could see now why.
Leo wasn’t loud.
Wasn’t overly friendly.
But there was something steady about him.
Something strong.
A good person, Mathew realized.
Yet his cold aura still made him uncomfortable.
Mathew thought to himself—
It’s better to keep some distance.
Not everyone with a good heart feels easy to be around.
Soon, class began.
As the teacher started the lesson, a few boys sitting nearby turned toward Mathew during break.
Unlike the others, their smiles were genuine.
“Hey, ignore those idiots,” one of them said.
“I’m Ethan.”
“And I’m Ryan.” another said.
Mathew smiled faintly.
Within minutes, they were talking casually, the tension from earlier fading away.
From across the classroom, Leo noticed it and looked away.
At least the new guy wouldn’t be alone.
Outside, the day moved on as usual.
But neither Leo nor Mathew knew—
their paths had just quietly crossed for a reason.
