There were three unread messages, all from the same person.

From Keifer –

Did you sleep?

From Keifer –

Did you remove the bandage?

From Keifer –

Is my Patient alive?

A soft, genuine smile immediately spread across her face, warming her chest before her feet even touched the cold floor.

She quickly typed back.

To keifer –

Alive.

The reply came back within mere seconds, as if he were staring right at his screen waiting for her.

From Keifer –

Miracles do happen.

Jay Jay rolled her eyes, her smile growing wider.

To keifer –

Did you sleep?

From Keifer –

Unfortunately, yes.

Too many emails.

To keifer –

Did you eat breakfast?

From Keifer –

Excuse me?

I’m supposed to ask that question.

To keifer –

Doctor privileges.

From Keifer –

Illegal.

To keifer –

Accepted.

Jay Jay sighed, locking her phone, but the warm feeling inside her didn’t fade.

The bakery was unusually busy that afternoon.

Orders piled up on the counter, timers buzzed constantly, and a steady stream of customers kept Jay Jay on her feet for hours.

By two o’clock, she realized something horrifying.

She had completely forgotten to eat lunch.

Again.

At exactly two-thirty, one of her counter girls walked into the kitchen, carrying a large, premium delivery bag.

“Jay, someone just dropped this off for you.”

Jay Jay wiped her flour-dusted hands on her apron and frowned.

“Who sent it?”

The girl giggled, pointing to a small, elegant note attached to the handles.

Jay Jay opened the bag, and her breath caught.

Inside was a container of hot, delicious food, a bottle of fresh juice.

She picked up the note.

Written in sharp, neat handwriting were the words:

*Patients are required to eat lunch.

– K*

Jay Jay burst out laughing, a soft blush creeping up her neck.

She pulled out her phone immediately.

To keifer –

Are you spying on my bakery?

The typing bubble appeared instantly.

From Keifer –

Maybe.

To keifer –

That’s concerning.

From Keifer –

Did you eat?

To keifer –

Working on it.

From Keifer –

Send proof.

To keifer –

Excuse me

From Keifer –

Evidence required.

Jay Jay shook her head, a helpless smile on her lips as she snapped a quick picture of the lunch on the back table and sent it over.

Two seconds later, his reply popped up.

From Keifer –

Acceptable , The cookies look terrible, though.

Jay Jay stared at the screen in utter betrayal, her fingers flying over the keyboard.

To keifer –

THOSE ARE MY COOKIES.

I baked that batch yesterday!

From Keifer –

Exactly.

To keifer –

You’re officially banned from the bakery.

From Keifer –

I’ll appeal the decision.

To keifer –

Appeal rejected.

From Keifer –

Corrupt judicial system.

She laughed out loud again, completely melting into the screen.

One of her staff members leaned against the counter, watching her with a knowing smirk.

“Boyfriend?”

Jay Jay choked on her breath, her face turning bright red.

“No!

No, he’s just…

a friend.”

The girl raised an eyebrow, clearly not believing a single word.

“Sure.

A friend who sends you food and makes you blush like that.”

By evening, the bakery finally closed.

Jay Jay stepped out into the cool air, locking the glass doors behind her.

The moment she turned around, she saw it.

A familiar, sleek black sports car was parked right by the bakery.

Keifer was leaning casually against the hood, his hands tucked into his pockets, looking devastatingly handsome under the streetlights.

Jay Jay walked over, trying to hide how happy she was to see him.

“You’re becoming a real problem, Watson.”

He looked up, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a soft, melty gaze.

“I prefer the term ‘favorite inconvenience’.”

She stared at him, her heart skipping a beat.

“That was incredibly smooth.”

“I know” he smirked, stepping closer.

He held up a small paper bag.

“Peace offering.”

She opened it and sniffed.

Her eyes widened.

It was a fresh batch of premium cashew cookies from a famous, upscale cafe across town.

“Traitor!”

He looked mockingly offended.

“Those were very expensive.” Keifer said Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.

“You literally replaced my cookies!”

“I upgraded your cookies.” Keifer Replied

“Impossible.”

“Science disagrees with you.”

Jay Jay pulled one out, glaring at him playfully, and took a small bite.

Keifer watched her mouth intently, waiting for her reaction, his eyes filled with a quiet amusement.

Unfortunately for her pride, the cookie was amazing.

It melted in her mouth.

Her eyes widened slightly in defeat, and she groaned.

Keifer noticed immediately.

A triumphant smile broke across his handsome face.

“Victory.”

“Temporary victory” she mumbled around her cookie.

“I’ll take it.”

The city lights slowly came alive around them as they drove through the darkening streets.

Instead of heading straight to her house, Keifer drove up a winding road, finally parking near a quiet, secluded rooftop that overlooked the entire glittering skyline.

They walked over to the edge, leaning against the metal railing.

The cool evening breeze moved softly around them, lifting strands of Jay Jay’s hair.

Shivering slightly from the sharp wind, Jay Jay subconsciously rubbed her arms.

Before she could say a word, a heavy, warm fabric settled over her shoulders.

She looked up in surprise to see Keifer standing in just his white tee and chain.

He had completely taken off his sleek, black leather jacket just to drape it over her .

The jacket was huge on her, the premium leather butter-soft and radiating his body heat, completely wrapping her in his familiar cedarwood scent.

“You’ll freeze” he said softly, his voice dropping an octave as he looked down at her completely engulfed in his oversized leather jacket “And I don’t need my patient catching a cold.”

Jay Jay buried her chin into the smooth, high collar of the jacket, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs. She didn’t even try to argue.

The warmth of it was intoxicating.

For a while, neither of them spoke.

The silence felt completely comfortable, safe, and filled with a sweet, unspoken warmth.

Then, Keifer turned his body toward her.

“Show me your hand.”

She looked down at her wrist.

“Again?”

“Again.”

Reluctantly, she peeked her hand out from beneath the long, wide sleeve of his black leather jacket .

Keifer took it, his large palm cradling her fingers so gently it made her breath hitch.

His thumb lightly brushed against her skin as he checked the bandage.

He was focused, serious, and so close she could smell his scent even clearer now.

“Better,” he murmured, his voice deep and soothing.

“The swelling went down.”

“Doctor approved?” she asked softly, looking up into his eyes.

“Barely,” he whispered back, his gaze lingering on her face for a long, quiet moment before he let go of her hand.

Jay Jay smiled, leaning back against the railing, pulling the sleek leather closer around herself like a protective shield.

“You know…

you worry way too much.”

“I disagree.”

“You absolutely do.

You’re a big, scary CEO, but you’re acting like a worried nurse.”

Keifer leaned back beside her, a soft chuckle escaping his lips.

“I’ve accepted it as part of my personality now.”

“Terrifying.”

“Efficient,” he corrected, his eyes softening as he looked out at the city lights.

A few minutes later, they headed back to the car.

As the engine purred to life, the city outside slowly blurred into a beautiful stream of shadows and glowing lights.

Throughout the entire drive, Jay Jay didn’t make a single move to take the jacket off .

Instead, she practically melted into the passenger seat, pulling the cool-looking but warm leather all the way up to her chin.

It felt like a solid embrace, shutting out the rest of the cold, harsh world.

The sheer exhaustion of the last few days finally caught up to her.

The lack of sleep, the constant stress, and the lingering fear of Damien Reyes began to heavy her eyelids.

Wrapped safely in Keifer’s jacket, her head slowly dropped sideways, landing softly right against his broad shoulder .

Keifer froze for a fraction of a second.

His heart did a strange, violent flip against his ribs.

He looked down, his eyes widening slightly as he realized she was fast asleep, completely trusting him, swallowed up by his stylish leather jacket.

A small, stray strand of hair had fallen across her peaceful face.

Moving with absolute, breathtaking gentleness, Keifer lifted his hand and carefully tucked the hair behind her ear, his fingers brushing against her soft skin.

He didn’t move his shoulder, holding himself perfectly still just so she could rest comfortably against him.

Then, a quiet smirk touched his lips.

He carefully pulled out his phone with his free hand.

*Click.*

Another sleeping picture.

More perfect blackmail material to keep forever.

But as Keifer slipped the phone back into his pocket, his smile slowly faded.

He looked down at the fragile girl resting against his chest.

His eyes tracked down to his jacket draped over her, knowing the angry red wound inflicted by Damien Reyes was hidden just beneath.

A dark, dangerous promise settled deep within his chest.

He had already told Ethan to dig up everything on Damien.

Looking at Jay Jay now, Keifer knew that if Damien so much as touched her again, he wouldn’t just take away Reyes Holdings’ business contracts he would utterly ruin the man himself.

The car finally stopped outside her house, and the sudden quiet caused Jay Jay to slowly blink her eyes open.

She blinked, realized she was resting entirely against his shoulder, and quickly sat up, her cheeks burning red.

As she moved, she realized she was still cocooned in his leather jacket .

She instinctively reached for the zipper to slip it off .

“Oh, here—your jacket—”

“Keep it,” Keifer interrupted smoothly, his voice quiet in the dim car.

He reached over, his hand gently pressing against the leather lapel to stop her from taking it off .

“You shiver too easily.

And it looks much better on you anyway.”

Jay Jay’s breath hitched at his touch, her heart doing a frantic dance.

She looked into his dark eyes, finding no teasing in them just pure, protective warmth.

She swallowed softly, keeping the jacket wrapped tightly around herself.

“Then…

I’ll return it next time.”

“No rush,” he murmured, his eyes tracking the way she buried her hands back into his oversized sleeves .

Then, she noticed the smug look on his face and her eyes narrowed, trying to break the heavy tension.

“You took another picture, didn’t you?”

“I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about,” he said smoothly, staring straight ahead at the steering wheel.

“Liar.”

“Apparently”

Jay Jay let out a dramatic groan, opening the passenger door.

But before she stepped out, she paused and turned back to look at him, her eyes soft and full of emotion.

“Kiki.”

He let out a long, defeated sigh.

“I’m never escaping that nickname, am I?”

“Nope.

Never.”

“Wonderful,” he murmured, but the corners of his mouth twitched upward.

She smiled beautifully at him.

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Jay.

Go get some real sleep.”

As Jay Jay walked up her front porch and unlocked the door, clutching his warm black leather jacket tightly around her shoulders, she realized something life-changing .

For the first time in a very long time, walking into her house didn’t feel heavy or suffocating.

Because somewhere out there in the massive city, there was someone checking if she ate lunch.

Someone carrying medical kits just for her, remembering her bandages, and keeping her safe in his arms.

Someone who genuinely cared.

And as the car quietly drove away into the night, both of them knew that this beautiful, sweet bond was becoming a very dangerous thing for the world around them— because Keifer Watson would destroy anything to protect her.

Jay Jay’s Pov-

The morning sun filtered softly through my bedroom window, but for the first time in a very long time, I didn’t want to get out of bed. This chapter was taken from novelping dot com without permission.

Instead, I pulled the heavy fabric tighter around my shoulders.

I was completely buried inside Keifer’s black leather jacket .

It was way too big for me.

The sleeves completely hid my hands, and the collar brushed softly against my cheeks.

But it was incredibly warm, still holding the faint, intoxicating scent of his expensive cologne.

Closing my eyes, I breathed it in.

For a split second, I could pretend I was still in his car.

Pretend that his large, gentle hand was still cradling mine, checking my bandage.

Pretend that the world wasn’t a dark, terrifying place.

With Keifer, I felt safe.

I felt like a normal girl who was allowed to smile, laugh, and dance in the rain.

He looked like a big, scary, untouchable CEO to the rest of the world, but to me…

he was just my worried, bossy Kiki.

My heart did a strange, fluttering flip just thinking about him.

But then

The heavy, suffocating reality of my life crashed back into my mind.

Damien Reyes.

Just the thought of his name made my stomach twist in pure anxiety.

My hand instinctively flew to my wrist, remembering the cold, ruthless look in Damien’s eyes when he shattered my bracelet into my skin.

To Damien, I wasn’t a human being.

I was a transaction.

A trophy he bought from my parents to prove his dominance.

He was a shadow that followed me everywhere, constantly twisting my arm, monitoring my every move, and reminding me that I belonged to him.

One man gave me his jacket to keep me warm.

The other left bruises on my skin.

A heavy sigh escaped my lips.

I knew I couldn’t keep this jacket out in the open.

If jeana and adrain saw it, they would take it away.

If Damien saw it…

he would destroy it.

Reluctantly, I slipped out of the butter-soft leather .

Holding it tightly against my chest for one last moment, I walked over to my closet and hid it in the deepest, darkest corner beneath a pile of old blankets.

My little secret treasure.

As I walked back to my bed, my phone buzzed on the nightstand.

My heart skipped a beat.

I ran over and picked it up.

From Keifer –

Did you sleep well, or did my jacket swallow you whole?

A genuine smile broke through my gloomy thoughts.

My fingers flew over the keyboard.

To keifer –

It’s comfortable.

I’ll return it to you soon.

The reply came back almost instantly.

From Keifer –

Keep it.

Consider it a mandatory medical prescription for your shivering.

I let out a soft laugh, my cheeks heating up.

To keifer –

That’s not how medicine works, Doctor Watson.

From Keifer –

I make the rules.

Drink your juice today.

I melted into the screen, clutching the phone against my chest.

For a moment, the heavy cloud over my head vanished.

Then, the loud, harsh sound of jeana voice shattered the peace from downstairs.

“Jay Jay!

Get down here right now!”

The warmth in my chest instantly turned to ice.

I locked my phone, my hands starting to tremble as I walked toward the bedroom door.

The nightmare was waking up.

Author’s pov –

The moment Jay Jay stepped into the living room, the suffocating atmosphere hit her like a wall.

Her stepdad was sitting at the dining table, his eyes glued to his tablet screen, a greedy, ecstatic grin stretching across his face.

“It’s in ” he muttered, his voice practically trembling with excitement.

“The first transaction from Reyes Holdings just cleared.

We’re set for life.”

Jeane didn’t even look up from the couch.

Instead, she pointed coldly toward a premium, sleek garment bag draped over the armchair.

“Put that on,” jeane commanded, her voice sharp and unyielding.

“Damien is picking you up in an hour.

The official wedding preparations start today, and he expects you to look like a proper fiancée to be.

Don’t look so miserable, Jay Jay; he’s buying our family’s future.”

Jay Jay stared at the dress bag, her throat tightening.

She felt like a prisoner looking at her chains.

An hour later, the sharp, aggressive purr of an expensive sports car engine echoed outside the house.

Jay Jay’s heart dropped.

She walked downstairs, dressed in the tight, restrictive designer dress jeane had chosen.

When she opened the front door, Damien Reyes was already standing on the porch.

He looked undeniably handsome in a sharp, tailored luxury suit, but his handsome face carried a cold, dark aura that made her blood run cold.

His calculating eyes swept down her body, inspecting her like a piece of property he had just purchased.

“You kept me waiting for three minutes, Jay Jay,” Damien said, his voice smooth but laced with a dangerous edge.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, keeping her eyes fixed on the floor.

Without a word, Damien stepped closer, his hand shooting out to grip her arm.

But he didn’t just hold her , his fingers clamped down with brutal, unforgiving force right over her injured wrist, intentionally squeezing the exact spot where Keifer had carefully checked her bandage the night before.

Jay Jay gasped, a sharp jolt of agony shooting up her arm.

“Damien, please…

that hurts…”

Damien didn’t let go.

Instead, he pulled her flush against his chest, his grip tightening until she could feel the cold metal of his expensive watch digging into her skin.

He leaned down, his breath hot against her ear, but his voice was dead, ruthless, and terrifyingly quiet.

“Let’s get one thing straight before we see the jewelers,” Damien whispered, his eyes narrowing as he scanned her face for any sign of defiance.

” I know about Watson.

I see the way that arrogant CEO looks at you, and I know he’s been sniffing around your pathetic little bakery.”

Jay Jay’s breath hitched, her entire body freezing in pure terror.

*He knows.*

“You belong to me now, Jay Jay,” Damien sneered, his fingers digging deeper into her bruised wrist, deliberately causing her to tremble.

“If I catch you smiling at him, talking to him, or even looking in his direction again, I won’t just ruin Watson Company’s stock market value.

I will make sure Keifer Watson doesn’t survive his next car ride.

Do you understand me?”

Tears of pain and fear welled up in Jay Jay’s eyes.

She wasn’t afraid for herself ,she was utterly terrified for Keifer.

She knew Damien was a monster who would absolutely carry out his threat.

To keep Keifer alive, she would have to do the hardest thing imaginable.

She would have to push him away completely.

“I understand,” she choked out, her voice breaking.

Damien smiled, a cold, satisfied expression washing over his face as he finally released his grip, leaving angry red finger marks over her skin.

“Good girl.

Now get in the car.

We have an engagement to plan.”

As Damien drove her toward their future, Jay Jay could only think about the one person she was about to run away from.

Because sometimes loving someone meant protecting them from yourself.

And tomorrow…

She would start pushing Keifer Watson away.
