Yo guys!
Is the chap good?
Give a rating of this if you can!
Peace out!
Skyreptera stood proudly upon the Vanguard Circle, letting out a piercing screech that echoed across the playground.
“I call…Archbird!”
The boy slapped another card onto his Rear-Guard Circle behind Skyreptera.
A screeching bird flapped onto the battlefield.
“Now my formation is complete!”
“I attack with my Vanguard!
Archbird boosts!”
Resting both Skyreptera and Archbird, the boy launched his attack.
Va
Katsumi had already predicted the outcome.
It was only a single attack.
Even if a trigger appeared during the drive check, he had no intention of guarding.
The feathered dinosaur charged forward and slammed into Sage with Eyes of Blue.
“Gaah!”
The Sage staggered from the impact before regaining his footing.
“Drive Check!”
The boy revealed the top card of his deck.
“No trigger.”
The card joined his hand.
“Damage Check…”
Katsumi revealed the top card of his deck.
“No trigger.”
Neither check revealed a trigger.
The revealed card entered his damage zone.
‘Hmph.
Just as I predicted.’
“Haha!
I end my turn!”
The boy laughed smugly, looking more like a victorious gremlin than a cardfighter.
For some reason, the sight was even more irritating because of Katsumi’s shorter stature.
‘Father, show this insolent creature the difference between heaven and earth!’
Blue-Eyes roared dramatically.
Katsumi gave a slight nod.
“I draw…”
Drawing from the top of his deck, Katsumi’s eyes sparkled.
“Hehe…”
“I ride!
Maiden with Eyes of Blue!”
He slammed the card onto the Vanguard Circle.
The image of Sage dissolved into particles of light.
In his place appeared a silver-haired maiden with a calm expression and gentle blue eyes.
“And I call Priestess with Eyes of Blue!”
The Priestess appeared in the right Front Row Rear-Guard Circle.
Naturally, Katsumi did not place her in the back row.
A Grade 2 belonged on the front line.
“My Vanguard attacks your Vanguard!”
Maiden raised her staff.
Blue rings of light formed around Skyreptera before converging into a single blast.
The dinosaur kid shifted the cards in his hand nervously.
‘I only have one guard…’
‘Should I use it now?’
The pressure was beginning to build.
Maiden’s attack carried nine thousand power.
Enough to hit Skyreptera directly.
“I…
don’t guard.”
Reluctantly, the boy lowered his hand.
Good.
Exactly what Katsumi wanted.
“Drive Check!”
Katsumi flipped the top card of his deck.
A Guardian Dragon.
“No trigger.”
The card entered his hand.
Maiden’s attack connected.
Skyreptera stumbled backward under the impact.
“Damage Check!”
The boy flipped the top card of his deck.
“No trigger.”
Another card entered his damage zone.
A total of two damage had now been dealt.
Katsumi held the lead.
But the turn was not over yet.
“My Priestess with Eyes of Blue attacks!”
The Priestess stepped forward.
“We have equal power.
This attack will hit.”
Blue light gathered around her staff as she unleashed her attack.
“I Guard!!”
The boy immediately slammed a card onto the Guardian Circle.
“Lizard Runner will aid in defense with 5,000 shield!”
A smaller lizard leapt forward and intercepted the attack.
The gathered beam of light struck the guard, but the Priestess was too weak to damage the Vanguard.
“I end my turn.”
Katsumi ended his turn with a face that clearly said:
I calculated that.
Too bad the kid didn’t notice it.
“My turn!
I stand and draw!”
Drawing a card from the deck, the boy’s expression went from sad to absolute goblin.
“Haha!
Now you are done for.
I ride, Deathrex!”
The wind seemed to shift slightly.
The card shop felt a little hotter to the onlookers.
The feathered dinosaur vanished as an enormous two-legged abomination took its place upon the Vanguard Circle.
“And I call Sonic Noa to the back and another Skyreptera to the front!”
Skyreptera and Sonic Noa were placed in the right column.
Katsumi watched as the kid filled his field with cards.
A good strategy.
But his hand was rather concerning.
The kid had gone all in, risking everything on this turn.
“I attack Maiden with Eyes of Blue with my Deathrex, aided by Archbird!!”
Resting both cards, the monstrous Deathrex lunged toward the Maiden.
“I guard with Guardian Dragon.
I discard White Dragon Hatchling and completely nullify that attack.”
Katsumi remained calm, but inwardly he was slightly overwhelmed.
An attack of sixteen thousand power was aimed at him.
The chances of the kid pulling a trigger were not low.
Completely blocking the attack was the safest choice.
“Ugh!
It was wasted.
Keeping a Perfect Guard is cowardly.”
The kid grimaced in frustration.
Then he mumbled a few insults.
Weak insults.
“Checking for Drive Triggers!”
The first card flipped.
“No trigger.”
The second card followed.
“Got it!
Critical Trigger!”
It was an unfamiliar card to Katsumi, but the trigger icon was undeniable.
The screech of Deathrex tore through the air.
The very ground seemed to tremble beneath its fury as it charged forward.
Yet the attack crashed harmlessly against the enormous shield of Guardian Dragon.
“I give all the effects to Skyreptera!”
The boy pointed dramatically toward his rear-guard.
“And I attack with Skyreptera boosted by Sonic Noa!”
The feathered beast received five thousand additional power and one extra critical.
Its total power climbed to twenty-one thousand.
“I don’t guard.”
“Huh?”
The declaration caught the kid completely off guard.
His eyes widened.
Then realization dawned on his face.
“Oh!
Do you not have any cards left to defend with?
Guarding against Deathrex was smart, but the critical will still land!”
Thinking he had gained the upper hand, the boy immediately started boasting.
Katsumi merely shook his head.
The sight of a child acting like a seasoned veteran caused several people nearby to giggle.
Skyreptera’s attack connected successfully.
The enhanced dinosaur slammed into the Maiden, pushing Katsumi’s damage count up.
“Damage Check.”
The first card flipped.
“No trigger.”
A second card followed.
“No trigger.”
Both cards entered the damage zone.
Katsumi was now at three damage.
‘Why is he so calm?’
The kid frowned.
‘Shouldn’t he be panicking right now?’
No matter the game.
No matter the genre.
No matter the method.
Victory always required two things.
A face as unreadable as stone.
And a mind as cool as ice.
The kid possessed neither.
Katsumi could practically read every thought written across the boy’s face.
For a moment, he wondered whether he had somehow gained a special ability.
Then he dismissed the idea.
Who cared?
Certainly not him.
“Haha!
I end my turn!”
The kid crossed his arms proudly, as if victory had already been secured.
Katsumi simply reached toward his deck, his expression remained unchanged.
“I stand and draw.”
Katsumi drew the top card of his deck.
His lips curled slightly.
Before making his move, however, he decided to speak.
“You are a great fighter.”
The sudden praise caught the kid completely off guard.
His eyes widened as Katsumi continued.
“You built a deck with proper synergy and did not cram powerful cards into it like a fool.
For that, you have my commendation.”
He paused.
Then pointed toward the field.
“But now I will end this farce.”
Spoken in a tone that suggested he had already witnessed the future, Katsumi sounded less like a cardfighter and more like the final boss of some grand tale.
The kid felt a chill crawl up his spine.
Katsumi glanced at the four cards in his hand.
Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
White Stone of Ancients.
Azure Dragon Spirit.
The Azure Dragon Spirit was a trigger.
A perfect hand.
“And so I ride…”
His voice rose dramatically.
“BLUE-EYES WHITE DRAGON!!”
The world of Cray trembled.
Thunder roared across the heavens.
Space itself distorted as a colossal White Dragon descended from beyond reality.
The Maiden dissolved into countless particles of light.
In her place stood the supreme dragon.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
The crowd fell silent.
Even the kid unconsciously swallowed.
“And I call Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon to the left Rear-Guard Circle while repositioning Protector with the Eyes of Blue to the back row.”
The field shifted.
Then Katsumi activated another effect.
“And the effect of Blue-Eyes White Dragon activates.
From my drop zone, I can call a Blue-Eyes unit of Grade 2 or lower.”
Taking Guardian Dragon from the drop zone, he placed it behind his Vanguard.
“I call Guardian Dragon.”
Five of the six circles were now occupied.
The field was complete.
Katsumi raised his hand.
“I attack with Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon boosted by Protector with the Eyes of Blue.”
Both units rested.
Jet Dragon exploded forward.
Its body tore through the air like a living missile. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.
Jet Dragon possessed ten thousand power.
Protector added another seven thousand.
Seventeen thousand power.
Enough to threaten Deathrex.
“I don’t guard.”
The kid refused to defend.
The attack landed.
Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon carved across Deathrex with draconic fury.
“Damage Check!”
The top card of the kid’s deck flipped over.
“Critical Trigger!”
The crowd gasped.
The kid immediately grinned.
“Haha!
I give all effects to Deathrex!”
The trigger’s critical effect was useless on the opponent’s turn.
The power, however, was not.
Deathrex climbed from ten thousand power to fifteen thousand.
“Tsk.”
Katsumi clicked his tongue.
“Very lucky.”
Then he smiled.
“But it changes nothing.”
He rested Guardian Dragon.
“I attack with my Vanguard boosted by Guardian Dragon!”
The colossal White Dragon spread its wings.
Lightning danced around its body.
“And another effect of Blue-Eyes White Dragon activates!
It gains three thousand power when attacking.”
Blue-Eyes White Dragon surged forward.
Its original eleven thousand power became fourteen thousand.
Guardian Dragon added another six thousand.
Twenty thousand power.
The kid immediately reacted.
“I guard with Cannon Fire Dragon, Cannon Gear!”
The mechanical dragon leapt before Deathrex.
Its shield value combined with Deathrex’s power.
The defense reached twenty-five thousand.
For a brief moment, the attack was stopped.
The kid sighed in relief.
Then came the Twin Drive.
“I Drive Check!”
Katsumi silently prayed to every god he had ever heard of.
He flipped the first card.
“Critical Trigger!”
The crowd erupted.
The kid froze.
Katsumi’s eyes widened.
“Second check…”
Slowly.
Very slowly.
He revealed the next card.
Time itself seemed to stop.
Then—
“Another Critical Trigger!!”
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Even Katsumi blinked.
The kid looked as though his soul had abandoned his body.
Then the entire card shop exploded.
“No way!”
“Double Critical?!”
“That’s impossible!”
The White Dragon unleashed a deafening roar.
Power surged through its body.
Five thousand.
Ten thousand.
Its strength climbed higher and higher.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon reached thirty thousand power.
Far beyond Deathrex’s twenty-five thousand defense.
Katsumi laughed.
A genuine laugh born from the exhilaration of battle.
“Hahaha!
This is the end!”
He pointed dramatically toward the enemy Vanguard.
“All effects go to Blue-Eyes White Dragon!”
The dragon’s eyes shone like twin stars.
“Attack their Vanguard!”
Upon the battlefield of Cray, the colossal White Dragon surged forward.
Thunder cracked.
The heavens trembled.
Every obstacle before it was annihilated.
Deathrex roared defiantly and charged to meet its foe.
The collision shook the battlefield.
Yet there could only be one victor.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon tore straight through Deathrex.
A majestic roar echoed across the world.
The attack connected.
“Damage Check…”
The kid revealed the first card.
“No trigger…”
Another card.
“No trigger…”
His voice weakened.
The final card appeared.
“No trigger…”
The sixth card entered the damage zone.
The fight was over.
The kid stared blankly at the field.
Defeated.
Around them, the crowd finally regained their voices.
“Oh man!
Shinto lost to a rookie!”
“Did you see that White Dragon?!”
“It was so cool!”
“Is this the power of some hidden clan?!”
The spectators erupted into excitement.
At the center of it all stood Katsumi.
Victorious.
A deck unlike anything they had ever seen had displayed its brilliance.
And its name would not be forgotten.
