Max jumped into the water and tried to pull the dog from the water, but when Max reached the dog, he noticed the dog was not breathing.

Max grabbed the dog in his hand and realized that it was a stuffed toy.

Max’s look of surprise was quickly replaced by suspicion.

The toy was swimming in the water.

I was standing on a gigantic rock.

The water was rushing through the rock.

When I noticed the disappointment on Max’s face, I asked.

“What happened?” My voice was loud.

Max thrust the dog towards me.

My foot slipped as I tried to catch the stuffed dog, and I fell into the water.

I was hanging upside down because when I fell, my foot got stuck between the rocks.

I tried to free my foot, but all my effort was in vain.

I held my breath.

I then saw Max swimming towards me.

He grabbed my hands and tried to unstick my foot, but he was unsuccessful.

I was feeling dizzy because I could no longer hold my breath.

Then I saw Max’s face.

The darkness came before my eyes.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on the ground and noticed that Max’s face had a thick fur.

His eyes were glowing.

I began coughing as Damon approached us.

“Have you lost your mind?” Anger vibrated in his voice.

The tension started brewing between Max and Damon.

Max growled and then leaped onto Damon.

I sat up and noticed thick fur sprouting on Damon’s skin as his claws extended.

His facial features began to change.

His ears stretched.

Damon forcefully pushed Max away and stood up, shoving him against the tree.

I got to my feet, my eyes widening in surprise.

I then noticed that Max safely landed on his feet.

Damon growled, running towards Max, but before Damon reached Max, I yelled.

“Please, stop.” My voice was filled with shakiness.

Damon suddenly halted midway; he glanced at me with glowing eyes.

I then cautiously took a step back.

I drew in a long, slow breath.

I swallow hard.

A minute later, I noticed they transformed back into normal.

Their clothes were torn.

“How could you do that?” Anger cleared Damon’s voice.

“You know it is against the rules.” Max ran his finger through his hair.

The smirk appeared on his face.

“What are you talking about?” Max asked.

He spoke quietly.

But before Damon said anything else, I saw a man in police uniform emerge from behind the tree and jump in the conversation.

“What happened here?” The words that came out of his mouth shuddered.

“I want you to speak up before I put you in the car and drive you to the police station.” The man held his head with both of his hands.

My body began shivering.

Damon grunted.

“Max did it.

He attacked me,” Damon spoke in a high-pitched tone.

“I was just defending myself.

Max placed his hands on his waist.

His head dipped in a brief nod.

I found Max’s behavior odd because he usually talks fast and tries to convince people that he is innocent, but here he is just standing there with a bowed head.

The man stepped forward, grabbed Max and Damon’s hands, and began leading them to the highway where he parked his car.

I was silently following them with a bowed head.

In the meantime, I noticed heavy footsteps; it seemed like someone was running towards us.

I shifted my gaze from the ground to the tree, where I saw Lydia walking towards me.

She came over to me, held my hand tightly, and gave me a side hug.

My teeth were chattering because of the cold.

“You know they had fought each other and torn each other’s clothes.” Anger sharpened the man’s voice.

“Why did you send them here?”

Lydia inclined her head in disagreement.

“Jordan, Mrs.

Holden was upset because her dog was missing, so I thought I would drop her home until they found her dog.” Before Lydia added something else, Jordan cut Lydia off, probably rudely.

“You are kidding me.

How can you forget that Mrs.

Holden has no dog?” She spoke, and a tremor of anger ran through his voice.

Lydia looked at Jordan with a furrowed brow.

A startled yelp escaped from Lydia’s mouth; the sharp sound echoed in the silence.

Lydia opened the car door, and I hopped in the car.

Jordan made Max and Damon sit on his police car.

My eyes shot up, and it painted the question mark on my face.

The information stirred me too because if she had no dog, then who placed the stuffed dog toy in the water because it looked like a trap for us?

Lydia remained silent.

A minute later, she grabbed the wheel and started driving.

I was staring at her through the rearview mirror.

The worry was visible on Lydia’s face.

Lydia clenched her jaw; she was gritting her teeth together.

It seemed like she wrestled with her inner irritation.

A few minutes later, we arrived at the police station.

I got out of the car with Lydia.

As I was entering, I noticed Jordan’s car stopping in front of the police station.

“Callie, I told you to not go with him.” Her voice was not quite steady.

“But you did not listen.” The worry was visible on her face as she saw my hands trembling.

“Your mother will kill me.” That I heard Aunt Agatha say.

As Max and Damon entered the police station along with Jordan, Dorian rose to his feet.

Jordan led them to the jail cell and put them in and locked the door behind them.

“I am going to find Marty, and I want you to stay here until I come back,” Dorian spoke in a steady tone.

A quick nod escaped Lydia in response.

Aunt Agatha ran her hands through her hair.

“Can I go?” She sounded urgent.

“No, you heard Dorian.” Lydia dropped her hands on her side.

“I think, Callie, you should leave.” Her voice was a mixture of anger and resentment.

Aunt Agatha knits her eyebrows together.

She added with a deep sigh.

“No, do not let her go.

Look what she did.” Her voice was loud.

I rolled my eyes.

“I am not a child.

I think Lydia is right.

I should go home,” I said while going towards the door.

But before I reached the exit, Lydia clutched my hand and then led me to the jail cell where they kept Aunt Agatha.

I aggressively nudged Lydia’s hand away.

“I do not want to stay with her because she will start giving me lectures.” My voice quivered.

Lydia shook her head.

She then grabbed my hand, opened the other jail cell door, and motioned me to go inside.

I sucked in a big breath.

I then entered the jail cell.

Damon was standing in one corner, leaning against the wall.

Max was sitting in the other corner, with his legs drawn inward.

His head was resting on his knees.

The air was replaced with eerie silence.

A minute later, Lydia thrust the blankets inside the jail cell.

“You both dry yourselves,” she said firmly.

“I do not want you both to catch a cold.” I sensed concern in her voice.

Damon’s head nodded slightly.

“You crossed the line.

How could you do that?” Damon barely concealed anger.

“I will tell the council about that.” Max lifted his head and stood up.

He clenched his fists; his knuckles turned white.

“She already knew about that because I saved her life when the creature, we called a monster attacked her.” An edge of firmness was in his voice.

Damon stood straight.

He let his hands down on his side.

Damon added with a weak chuckle.

“You cannot fool me; it was a myth.” Damon stepped forward and stared into Max’s eyes.

“It is true, then.

Why did you not tell the council about it?” The corners of Max’s mouth moved upwards into a smile.

“Like they believe me.” The sarcasm was dripping from Max’s voice.

“And I think you should keep your mouth shut because if you tell them, then I do not know what they will do with Callie.”

Damon breathes through his nose.

He then started rocking in the jail cell.

Damon knitted his eyebrows together in frustration; it was a physical display of his jealousy.

“You cannot order me,” Damon said while giving Max a single-handed shove.

I was sitting there with a bowed head.

I was not paying attention to them because I was lost in my thoughts.

The information stuck in my mind that Mrs.

Holden did not have a dog.

Their loud scuffle pulled me back into reality.

“You know someone planted the dog for us.

He knew that we would go there, and I think he wanted you to transform.” My voice dropped to an audible level.
