I was sitting in the jail cell among Damon and his group.

And surprisingly, the girl who slapped my face is also in the jail cell.

I was not making eye contact with her.

Daman took a seat next to me on the bench.

He placed his hands on his lap.

He drew a long breath.

“I did not pay my condolences.

“I am sorry for your loss,” he said with a quiet tone.

I shifted my gaze from the ground to Damon’s face.

I squeezed my eyes shut and a minute later opened them.

I briskly rubbed my hands together.

My eyes glistened with unshed tears.

It is because, except for Lydia, no one showed sympathy to me.

At this moment, the words comforted me in all this chaos.

I stood up, but before I took a step forward, Isabel blocked my way by standing in front of me.

She gave me a double-handed shove.

Suddenly, Damon intervened and stood between us.

He raised his hands in peace.

“Damon, I want you to move because today I will kill her,” she roared.

“She tried to steal my man,” Damon deeply sighed.

He then grabbed Isabel by her arms and led her away from me.

I was just standing with my bowed head.

I was wondering how she knew.

As I was lost in my thoughts, a strong voice pulled me back into reality.

“What is going on there?” The voice was laced with worry.

I looked up and noticed the voice came from the other cell in which they kept Max.

Daman rolled his eyes.

He then went to iron bars.

“Damon’s voice dripped with sarcasm when he said, ‘Your girlfriend is just like you, always ready to make a scene.'” I shook my head.

In the meantime, Isabel clutched my hands firmly.

I looked at Isabel’s face.

Isabel clenched her jaw and gritted her teeth, which was audible in the tense atmosphere.

Damon grabbed Isabel’s hand and pushed it away gently.

Isabel crossed her arms while glaring at Callie.

The vein throbbed in Isabel’s forehead, which indicated she was fuming with anger.

“You think this is a joke, Callie?

You really think I am just going to stand here while you play around with Max?

I cautiously took a step back.

I was making a distance between me and Isabel because I do not want confrontation with her.

I said defensively.

“I did not do anything!

You are blowing this way out of proportion.” I sucked a big breath.

Isabel grunts.

Her voice was rising.

She added with a weak chuckle.

“Blowing it out of proportion?

You were all over him.

Someone saw you and Max together” Her voice was a mixture of anger and hatred.

Damon jammed his hands into his pants pocket.

“Okay, okay, let’s just take a breath here.

Isabel, I get why you are upset.” Before Damon formed a word to say something, Isabel cut him off rudely.

“No, Damon.

You do not get it. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.

This is not just some misunderstanding.

This is Callie trying to come between us.” Anger vibrated in his voice.

I rolled my eyes.

I held my head high and tried to show them I am confident.

“I just got to this town, and I have only met him once at the police station.

My voice was shaking with emotion.

I do not understand why you are making these big accusations against me.”

Damon pulled his hand from his pants pocket.

I noticed that Damon was trying to mediate between us.

“I think you have some kind of misunderstanding,” Damon said.

His voice was low.

I was still confused by Isabel’s behavior because I did not know see anyone in the forest except for the monster we saw.

So, who told Isabel about me and Max?

Isabel squeezed her hands into fists.

Damon raked his fingers through his hair.

I was now getting mad.

I scoffed.

“So now I am the villain?

I did not force him to talk to me.

Max can make his own choices.” I dropped my hands on my sides.

“If talking with Max is a crime, then I think you should keep your friend on a leash.”

Damon stepped forward.

He calmly said.

“Isabel, listen.

Callie was right.

She came here to meet her aunt, but her aunt met a tragic fate, and Max was there and trying to talk to her and make her feel better.” Isabel shook her head in frustration.

“I am telling you she is not that innocent.” The hint of anger colored her voice.

“I am telling you that she is hiding something.” I ran my hand through my hair.

I inclined my head in disagreement.

“Maybe he’s just tired of the same old routine,” I said.

My voice was steady.

Isabel gave me a single-handed shove.

“Do not you dare say that.

You do not know anything about our relationship.” There were tremors in Isabel’s voice.

Damon shifted his gaze from Isabel’s face to me.

“Both of you.

Stop.

This is not helping.

“Isabel, you need to cool off,” Damon said.

His voice was low.

Isabel breathes heavily.

She balled her fists.

“Cool off?

You think I can just forget what my friend told me?” I sensed hatred in her voice.

I started mocking her.

“What you ‘saw’?” You did not see anything real.

Just your own insecurities talking.” I am doing it because maybe she would spill the name of the person who told her about me and Max.

Before she said anything, I started talking again.

My voice is excessively loud.

“I want you to tell me what I really did.”

Damon asked me to walk away with eye gestures.

I gave my head a nod in disagreement.

Damon raised his palm in the air.

“Enough!

Isabel, think about it.

Max is not a child.

He has to take responsibility for his actions too.” He spoke with a quiet, resonant tone.

“Yeah, but that doesn’t excuse Callie’s behavior.” Her voice broke the silence.

The whole police station went silent.

No one makes a noise.

It was like no one was there except me and Isabel.

I silently lowered my gaze but a minute later.

I took a deep breath to calm myself.

“Why can’t you just trust him?

If he wanted you, he would not be so friendly with me.” My tone was firm.

I then took a seat on the bench in the corner.

I crossed my legs.

Isabel spoke.

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

“You know that’s not how it works.” I noticed sadness in Isabel’s eyes.

I bit my lips while grappling the edge of the bench.

Damon suddenly jumped into the conversation.

“His tone was soft.” Look, maybe Callie did not mean to cross a line.

But Isabel, you need to talk to Max.

Isabel walked towards the iron bar and stood leaning against it.

“I will.

But I cannot just ignore this.”

I touched my forehead and started rubbing it.

“Go ahead.

But do not be surprised if he sees how fun I am to be around,” I said.

An edge of firmness in my voice.

Now, I think I crossed the line because as Isabel heard that, she dashed towards me and grabbed me by my hair.

When she pulled my hair, I started screaming.

“Help me.” My voice was loud.

Suddenly, a man’s voice echoed in my ears.

“What is going on there?

Isabel, let her go.” It was Max.

The worry was dripping from her voice.

When this was happening, Marty stepped in the jail cell, and he suddenly broke off the fight between me and Isabel.

“Isabel, let’s go to Callie’s hair,” Marty said, gritting his teeth.

Marty made a claw around Isabel’s hand and forced her to let my hair go.

A minute later, Marty led me outside the jail cell and locked the door behind us.

Isabel narrowed her eyes.

“Fun?

This is not a game, Callie.” She spoke with barely concealed anger.

“Today, they saved you, but next time I will kill you if I see you around him.” Marty clutched my hands firmly.

“Seriously, can we just step back?

You both are better than this.” His words were sharp with anger.

“And I noticed since you got here you created trouble.

I think trouble followed you in this town.”

Isabel grappled the iron bars and started pulling them.

“Let me go.

I want to teach her a lesson.” A bitter edge sharpened her voice.

“Damon, I do not understand why you are taking her favor.” Lydia reached out to me and placed her hand on my arm.

“Callie, what did you do?” she asked.

Her voice was low; it was almost swallowed by the room.

Damon remained silent.

In the meantime, a feminine voice echoed in my ears.

“Callie, are you okay?” I looked at the exit, where I saw a woman standing in the doorway.

As I saw her, I dashed towards her, wrapped my hands around her, and hugged her tightly.

“Aunt Agatha” A low rumble came out of my mouth.

I started sobbing.
