I quickly pulled the steak off the fire and placed it on a plate with the carrots.
I sighed, my mind immediately drifting back to what happened earlier between me and Alaric.

I answered flatly, “I was hungry.”
He walked into the kitchen, searching for his plate, then said, “And where is mine?”
“There’s an uncooked steak in the fridge.
Do it yourself.”
I continued eating in silence…
But when I glanced at his face, I nearly burst out laughing.
He looked shocked.
As if thinking, You didn’t cook for me?
Seriously?
“You’ve changed, Cossette,” Frost said coldly, sitting next to me.
“Can I know the reason?”
I shoved the rest of the steak into my mouth in one huge bite—it was way too big, but I needed an excuse to get away from him.
Frost’s lips twitched, like he was trying not to smile at the ridiculousness of it.

I stood up, cheeks full, and mumbled, “I didn’t change.
I’m just tired.
Goodnight.”
Then I rushed to my room and slammed the door shut.
