The film set hummed with everyday chaos under bright LED studio lights that bounced sharp off green screens and fake rubble.

“Host, are you ready?”

I definitely am!

The piles of foam bricks painted to look like rough concrete, overturned metal barrels wrapped in yellow caution tape labelled ‘explosives,’ haze machines puffing out thick, realistic smoke that hung low and made everything feel gritty and real.

Extras wearing tactical gear like cargo pants, hoodies, and fake AR-15s with orange tips lay around in ‘dead’ positions on the edges, waiting for their cue.

Right in the centre stood Lyra, totally locked into her crossdressing heroine role—a slim, androgynous figure dressed in slim black cargo pants belted low around her hips, combat boots laced up tight.

“Host, you have to save the hero.

This is your scene, okay?”

I know that!

Do you think that I am an amateur?

“Yes.”

What?!

“Well, you haven’t done any action scenes before, right?”

An oversized green hoodie unzipped over a binder that flattened her curves into a boyish shape, short blonde hair gelled into a choppy undercut with one loose strand flopping over a sharp sapphire eye.

A rubber prop knife was strapped to her thigh, and a fake Glock sat holstered at her waist, finishing off her look with a dazzling cut on her lip.

Her stance was planted wide and steady, hands loose but ready to move fast, flawless porcelain skin peeking through the smudged ‘dirt’ makeup on her cheeks for that rough look.

She rolled her shoulders once, feeling the binder’s tight grip, and bounced light on her toes to shake out the pre-take nerves.

Behind her, the hero lay ‘out cold’ on the stained warehouse floor made of padded mats, his chest heaving shallow for the camera, wearing ripped jeans and a leather jacket slashed open with fake blood packs from the earlier ‘shootout’ scene.

A tight ring of snarling gang thugs closed in slow, their faces hidden under hoods, holding blunted prop bats and knives raised up high and menacing, eyes locked on Lyra with real hunger.

“Is he woman or something?”

“I have never seen such a beautiful man?”

“Who cares?

Let’s have some fun with him.”

Tension filled the air thick.

This was the big climax of the indie action flick—’he’ taking on ten-armed goons all by herself, shielding his fallen boss no matter what.

The extras shifted their grips on props, breathing heavy to build the vibe, while a PA whispered last-second adjustments to the smoke machine.

“Host, you got this scene in the bag?” the system cat pinged soft in Lyra’s head, like a quick digital nudge cutting through the crew’s tense quiet.

Cat, I got this.

Lyra thought back cool and focused, adrenaline starting to sharpen everything.

Her glow-up body moved light and easy after recovery, but she knew one wrong step meant hours of annoying reshoots.

She flexed her fingers around the prop knife hilt, double-checking the squib remote in her pocket.

The director—a bearded guy in a faded band tee and baseball cap—yelled through his headset mic from the video village monitors.

“Quiet on set everybody!

Roll sound, roll cameras—A, B, C all good.

Speed!

And in three…

two…

one.

ACTION!”

Chaos kicked off right away.

The lead thug—a beefy guy with a fake neck tattoo—charged straight at her first, swinging his bat high overhead with a rough growl, “You’re done, punk—time to go down!” His boots pounded the mat hard, eyes wild for the shot.

Lyra sidestepped slick and quick, her sneaker squeaking loud on the concrete floor, yanking her prop knife free in one smooth pull.

She blocked the swing hard with a forearm check—thwack of foam hitting rubber just right—then countered super-fast, “Keep dreaming, asshole,” while slashing low across his “gut” where the squib pack burst open with bright red dye.

Her boot shoved his knee out from under him clean.

He crumpled down clutching the fake wound, gasping really dramatic, “Shit…

you crazy bitch…” before rolling over “dead” like he was out.

The dye pooled sticky under him, and he gave a quick thumbs up to the camera before going limp.

Two more rushed in from both sides, their knives flashing quick in the lights.

“Waste him already—do it!” one barked loud, voice echoing off the green screens.

Lyra spun low and graceful, her leg sweeping the first guy’s shins right out—knife “stabbing” deep into his thigh as he dropped hard with a yell, “My leg—fuck, it burns!”

He clutched it theatrical, rolling away.

The second one stabbed wild over her head.

She rolled right under his arm through the thick smoke, popping back up silent behind him.

“Total amateur move,” she spat sharp, slamming an elbow into his ribs—pulled back safe for the stunt—then raking the knife across his “back” in a fast slice.

The circle pressed in even harder now—four coming at once, swinging their bats like they wanted to trap her bad.

“Get him down—now!” a skinny one sneered through his teeth, sweat real on his brow from the heat.

Lyra dove forward over a barrel, snagging a dropped prop pipe right out of the air mid-jump, landing crouched and ready.

She chucked it perfect, smashing into the closest bat-guy’s knee—all padded for safety—and he screamed out, “Bone—my fucking bone!”

Sprinting right in, she faked a jab high to trick him—then hooked low instead, tripping another’s ankle while slashing across his arm deep.

Up close, she kneed a third one hard in the groin—with a foam cup protecting him—pipe cracking down on his “head.” Squibs popped blood all over his hoodie.

“Not happening today, boys,” he wheezed out weak, folding up slow and careful not to tangle with the cables.

“Flank her quick—cut her off!” an extra shouted real immersive, his pipe whistling close past her ear, close enough to feel the air whoosh.

Lyra whirled around sharp—her street-smart instincts taking over full.

The last five circled her more careful now, her partner still “down” ten feet away.

She huffed like she was winded for the drama, real sweat beading down her grime-streaked face, hoodie sticking to her skin.

O ne swung fake to the left.

“So predictable, idiot,” she growled low, ducking under easy—then smashed a counter elbow right to his jaw with stunt gel making it safe, pipe “crushing” his windpipe with a thud.

Frenzy exploded after that: thwacks and grunts filling the air—Lyra dodging every hit, stabbing quick, blocking tight—bodies dropping one by one fast.

A wiry thug grabbed her wrist tight.

“You are mine now!” he grinned with yellow teeth flashing.

“Think again, creep,” she snapped back, headbutting his nose hard—pad hidden under makeup—knife plunging straight into his ‘heart’ with a red spray bursting out.

He staggered back perfect, hand to chest.

The final thug roared like he was crazy mad, bat coming down overhead full force.

“For the boss—you’re dead meat!” Lyra dropped to one knee all cinematic, knife pointing straight up—caught his swing mid-air, twisted it brutal to ‘gut’ him deep while he charged, then shoved the ‘body’ back hard into a bloody heap.

Quiet dropped heavy all at once, smoke curling slow around the whole ‘massacre.’ She stood up panting real hard, knife dripping thick fake gore down her hand, shifting quick to guard over the hero—chest heaving wild, sapphire eyes burning with fierce protect.

The haze machine whirred down soft, lights catching the red dye pools.

“CUT!

Damn, that’s one-take pure gold—print it right now!” The director jumped up clapping hard and loud, whole crew whooping and yelling excited, grips high-fiving all around.

Lyra exhaled sharp and deep, electric buzz running through her veins, flashing a bright, winded grin that lit up her face—killed every single beat perfect.

The cat chimed a faint win in her head.

“Acting pays big when escape’s the real goal.”
