“Ah…” Ginny Jarvis cried out in agony, thrashing on her pink princess bed.

Her forehead was beaded with sweat, which soaked her hair and clothes.

Her brows were tightly knit, her face twisted in pure suffering.Full novel: Waiting Out the Apocalypse in Luxury — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After struggling for a long while, Ginny slowly propped herself up on one arm, using her other hand to massage her throbbing temples.

“Mngh…” she groaned softly and slowly opened her eyes.

As she took in her surroundings, panic and disbelief flashed in her gaze before finally settling into a calm clarity.

She turned and grabbed her phone from the nightstand to check the time.

It was 10:45 AM, October 5, 2019.

“Only one hour left,” she murmured under her breath.

She got up to wash her face.

The shock of the freezing water jolted her awake, gradually pulling her out of the lingering nightmare.

Staring at the strangely familiar reflection in the mirror, Ginny tentatively reached up to touch her cheek.

“I look pretty good without that scar.

Heh…”

Ginny was stunning.

She possessed an almost aggressive kind of beauty—crescent brows, large expressive eyes, a delicate nose, and perfectly plump lips.

It was the kind of face that imprinted itself in a person’s memory after a single glance.

But in the second year of the apocalypse, she had been disfigured.

It had been far too long since she last saw this flawless visage.

Looking at her reflection, she whispered, “I will settle everything from my past life, step by step.” As memories of her previous life flooded back, her gaze sharpened, and the veins bulged on her tightly clenched fists.

After a long time, she splashed cold water on her face again, forcing herself to calm down.

It was true—Ginny Jarvis had been reborn.

She had returned to exactly one month before the apocalypse began.

Over the past few days, she had gone from sheer panic and disbelief to agonizing anxiety, until she finally came to terms with reality.

After freshening up, she returned to her room.

She slumped into the beanbag chair beside her bed and stared blankly out the window.

At 11:45 AM, the television broadcasted news of a man surnamed Lynch winning a 40-million-dollar lottery jackpot.

Upon hearing this, Ginny burst into laughter, tears brimming in her eyes.

“Since I’ve been given a second chance at life, Gideon Lynch, we will settle our vendetta bit by bit.

And as for the Kane Family…

heh, your days of luxury are numbered…”

With that said, she booted up her laptop and began drafting a checklist of essential supplies to hoard for the impending doom.

In her previous life, the apocalypse had struck at 11:58 PM on November 10th.

People were still glued to their phones, eagerly waiting for the stroke of midnight to check out their online shopping carts.

That night, Ginny had been sitting alone by her window, drinking wine and gazing at the sky.

The next day was supposed to mark the hundredth day since her parents’ passing.

Instead of grieving in peace, she witnessed multiple people leaping off the building across the street.

Even though their bodies were smashed into a bloody pulp and their limbs severed by the fall, they twitched and stood back up within a minute.

Then, they began to shamble stiffly down the street.

Dozens of pedestrians suddenly collapsed, convulsing violently.

Watching this horrifying scene unfold, Ginny sobered up instantly and stared down in sheer terror.

Diners at the midnight street stalls and passing pedestrians screamed and scattered in all directions.

Some were tackled to the ground by the stiff-limbed monsters.

It wasn’t long before the mauled victims rose up to join the ravenous horde.

Cars crashed into one another, turning the roads into gridlock.

The agonizing cries for help and shrill screams of men and women pierced Ginny’s eardrums.

She watched helplessly as roadblocks and debris failed to stop the creatures that could no longer be called human; the obstacles merely slowed them down.

Feeling no pain, the monstrosities repeatedly slammed into the vehicles blocking the road until they flipped them over.

Then, piling on top of one another like a human ladder, they clambered over the wreckage and charged toward the night market across the street.

Witnessing this carnage, the word “zombies” instantly flashed through her mind.

She scrambled to her feet, tightly locking all the doors and windows before drawing the blackout curtains.

She took out her phone and called Sean Kane, who was working overtime, but the call never connected.

After that night, she never saw her brother again.

Two hours after the zombie virus outbreak, all communication networks went down, and the water supply was contaminated.

A day later, Ginny awakened her Space Ability.

Inside her pocket dimension, time remained completely stagnant.

However, because she lacked offensive power and could only rely on her years of Taekwondo training, she failed to hoard a significant amount of supplies.

Two days in, the entire city lost running water, electricity, and gas.

Yet even if the utilities had stayed on, no one would have dared to use them; the zombies possessed incredibly sharp hearing and a keen sense of smell.

A month later, rumors spread that the zombies had transparent crystals lodged in their brains, which, when absorbed, could enhance an Ability User’s Ability.

From then on, survivors began hunting zombies on a massive scale.

Six months later, the infected underwent massive mutations, giving rise to High Level zombies.

Caught completely off guard, many survivors were bitten while scavenging for crystals, causing the zombie horde to multiply rapidly.

By then, Ginny’s Ability upgraded to Level 2.

Her Space Ability could now manifest a Void Blade, allowing her to slaughter zombies invisibly.

A year into the apocalypse, many of the undead developed intelligence, and Zombie Kings emerged across various regions.

By the third year, living humans were practically extinct outside of designated relocation camps, secure bases, and shelters.

In the fifth year, extreme shortages of food and water sparked relentless riots and cannibalism within the safe zones.

It was during a mission to escort researchers in that fifth year that Ginny was betrayed by her husband, Gideon Lynch.

He forcefully stripped her of her Ability and threw her out of the vehicle, leaving her to be devoured alive by zombies, bite by agonizing bite.

Perhaps it was the horrific nature of her past death that caused Ginny to be plagued by relentless nightmares every single night since returning three days ago.

Ginny’s parents were the wealthiest couple in Breven.

Two months ago, they took a private jet to attend her brother Sean Kane’s doctoral graduation ceremony at the Prometheus Institute of Technology.

Tragically, the plane crashed into the ocean en route.

By the time the zombie apocalypse began, the wreckage had still not been salvaged.

As for Sean Kane’s final fate, Ginny remained entirely in the dark.

She had searched through the registries of every survivor camp but never found her brother’s name.

An hour later, clutching two finalized supply checklists, Ginny drove to the Kane Group headquarters.

The drive was smooth and unobstructed, leading her straight to Sean Kane’s office.

Sean looked up and saw his sister walking in with a pale complexion.

“What’s wrong, Jarvis?”

Seeing her brother’s deep concern, Ginny felt a sharp sting in her nose, and tears instantly streamed down her face.

For the three days since her rebirth, she had locked herself in her apartment, waiting for today’s lottery news to confirm if she had truly traveled back in time.

At first, she wondered if she had crossed into a parallel universe—one where the zombie virus wouldn’t break out in a month.

Or perhaps it had all been a terrible dream, and upon waking up, she could simply resume her lazy, comfortable life.

But the horrors of her past life left her trembling with lingering dread.

She decided that even if the apocalypse didn’t happen, there was no harm in hoarding extra supplies just in case.

If worst came to worst, she could simply resell the goods through the Kane Family’s supermarkets and shopping malls.

The moment Ginny started crying, Sean, who absolutely doted on his sister, flew into a panic.

“Sis, what happened?

Did someone bully you?

Tell…

tell me what’s wrong.

Don’t cry…

be a good girl, stop crying.”

He clumsily tried to wipe the tears flooding her face.

She wept for a long time, venting all of her pent-up trauma and negative emotions before finally pulling away from her brother’s embrace.

“I’m okay now, Sean.”

Ginny had always shared a tight bond with him.

Whenever she got into trouble as a child, Sean would take the punishment for her.

When she refused to do her homework, he would finish it in her stead.

As a result, Ginny had always been a terrible student.

She barely managed to scrape by in her college entrance exams and enrolled in an arts college to study animation.

Even that was only possible because Mr.

Kane had forced her to take six months of intensive art classes.

Otherwise, she would likely have become completely unemployed at eighteen.

Little did she know that less than six months after graduation, the apocalypse would strike, turning her into an orphaned survivor with no one to rely on.

And ultimately, she would be murdered by a total scumbag.

“What is it?

Tell me.

No one is allowed to bully my sister,” Sean pressed.

Hearing his protective words, Ginny’s tears gave way to a smile.

“I know, Sean.

Is there a completely soundproof room around here?

I have something to tell you, and absolutely no one else can hear it.”

This was the first time Sean had ever seen his sister look so dead serious.

“Let’s go to my private lounge,” he urged quickly.
