“Then hurry up and clear out the zombies over here,” a middle-aged man said.

“Also, you can’t take anything from the stores.

Otherwise, what will we do if there isn’t enough for us?”Full novel: Waiting Out the Apocalypse in Luxury — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Looking at the man’s entitled expression, Cecilia Sinclair picked up a zombie’s severed arm nearby and hurled it straight at him.

“Here, have some meat!

Do we owe you something?” she cursed.

“Why the hell should we scavenge for you and take nothing for ourselves?

Just because you think you’re so special?”

“You…

you young lady, you have no manners!

I don’t care.

If you don’t agree, I’ll start screaming, and we can all get bitten by zombies together!”

Even though she had seen countless people like this in her previous life, Ginny Jarvis was still stunned by their sheer shamelessness.

The rest of her group was flushed red with anger, their chests heaving.

“Enough, let’s not waste our breath on them,” Ginny said.

“We’re going to clear the zombies now.

You all can come out later.” As soon as she finished speaking, the rolling shutter doors that had been raised earlier were slammed back down.

“What is wrong with these people?

Miss Kane, can’t we just leave them be?

I’m so mad!” Cecilia looked at Ginny, puffing her round cheeks.

“Alright, let it go.

Let’s gather the Corpse Crystals.

Watch closely—just slice through the center of the brows, pry up this piece of bone, and you’ll see it.” Ginny demonstrated the process to the group.

Once everyone had collected all the Corpse Crystals, they moved forward.

As for the survivors in the adjacent shops, Ginny guessed they wouldn’t live long enough to see government rescue.

After all, the initial rescue efforts would prioritize government officials, scientists, and the elites of various industries.

These ordinary people would inevitably be the last to be saved.

Furthermore, tomorrow or the day after would bring a sudden, drastic temperature shift following the zombie virus mutation.

Daytime temperatures would soar to around sixty degrees Celsius, while at night, it would plummet to over minus ten degrees.

They had no Abilities and were too scared to kill zombies.

Even if she saved them this time, she couldn’t save them every time.

The apocalyptic world was just that cruel.

The group cleared zombies and harvested Corpse Crystals along the way.

Perhaps because her own father had mutated into a zombie, Cecilia would bow to each zombie corpse after digging out its crystal.

The others silently permitted her actions.

“That should be about it.

Gather the bodies and burn them.

Otherwise, the rotting corpses will cause another disaster,” Ginny said, her heart heavy as she surveyed the street littered with zombie bodies.

However, her melancholy lasted only a few seconds before she shook it off.

After all, many more crises were waiting for her. This story is hosted at g.com.

The smell of burning flesh permeated the air, masking the previous stench of rot.

The nearby survivors emerged from their hiding spots.

Seeing that Ginny’s group hadn’t taken any supplies, their eyes filled with joy.

“You guys should leave quickly, and don’t come back here!

You’re so capable, it’ll be easy for you to find another safe place.

We’re different; we’re completely defenseless,” the young girl from before shouted at the group.

But she only dared to yell from within the crowd, not even showing her face.

Ginny was no stranger to this kind of behavior.

She simply waved her hand, signaling everyone to get into the car.

Only after their vehicle drove away did the crowd frantically sprint toward the stores.

The vehicle continued onward.

Whenever they encountered small groups of zombies, Ginny didn’t intervene, choosing instead to watch Sean Kane, Clark Chandler, and the others practice their combat skills.

They soon arrived at their destination: a two-story bar.

“Let’s lure them out first.

It’s too cramped inside, making it hard to fight.” Ginny cautiously approached the entrance.

She suddenly yanked the door open and immediately dive-rolled to the left, clearing the doorway.

As soon as she moved, the group saw a dense, swarming horde of zombies packed inside.

Even Ginny felt a flicker of panic.

She could only hope there were no mutated zombies among them.

They were thankful the door was narrow, preventing the zombies from swarming them all at once.

Caleb Grant mounted a machine gun on the roof of the heavy truck and unleashed a frenzy of suppressive fire.

Ginny and Mason Ryder reaped through the frontline, while the others stood further back, furiously hurling their Abilities at the horde.

Timmy sporadically conjured vines to block sections of the horde or wrap zombies up and toss them away, buying the group valuable time to attack.

However, after their previous battles, everyone was somewhat fatigued.

Using Abilities consumed a massive amount of spiritual power, and they were all pushing themselves to the limit.

Noticing that everyone’s faces were growing pale, Ginny gradually sped up her attacks.

After all, there were still plenty of zombies left inside.

“Caleb, I’m going to flood the bar with water!

You unleash your Thunder Ability!”

She had seen Caleb perform this combo with others in her previous life.

Back then, Caleb was already at Level 4, so the destructive power was immense.

She just didn’t know how effective their teamwork would be now.

Drawing water from her space, she continuously advanced into the bar.

Since she didn’t possess a true Water Ability, she couldn’t directly condense Water Balls and could only release streams of water through her hands.

Fortunately, Ginny was incredibly fast now.

Otherwise, it would have been impossible for her to dash in and make it out unscathed.

The moment Ginny retreated outside, Caleb began firing a relentless barrage of Thunder Balls into the bar.

With Sean’s Ice Ability providing support, it didn’t take long for the entire horde to start violently convulsing from the lightning strikes.

Instead, she turned around, grabbed a submachine gun from the car, and joined the others in gunning down the stragglers.

Half an hour later, the battle was over.

Cecilia and the others collapsed to their knees, deathly pale and completely drained of energy.

None of them noticed a shifty-eyed man lurking behind the bar.

Seeing them slump to the ground, he vanished in a flash.

Because the team’s spiritual power was depleted, Ginny ordered them to return to the vehicle and absorb Corpse Crystals to recover.

She and Caleb began the task of harvesting the remaining crystals.

They had only collected about half of the Corpse Crystals when Ginny suddenly heard the heavy thud of numerous approaching footsteps.

“I hear it too.

Are those…

zombies?” Caleb tightened his grip on his dagger, his expression turning grave.

Ginny’s skin crawled.

Was this a zombie tide?

Shouldn’t that happen a year from now?

It couldn’t be, right?

If it wasn’t a horde, it had to be survivors, and likely a large group at that.

With everyone’s Abilities dried up, this could turn into a vicious fight.

As these thoughts raced through her mind, Ginny stored all the harvested Corpse Crystals into her space.

“Give me your crystals.”

Caleb immediately handed over his bag.

After Ginny secured everything in her space, the three of them stepped forward.

In the distance, a group of thirty to forty people was jogging toward them.

Ginny sensed fluctuations of Spiritual Energy radiating from six of them.

If any of those six were Level 1 Ability Users, she wouldn’t be able to gauge their true strength, which meant her team could be in grave danger today.

“Caleb, go check on how the others are recovering,” Ginny said quietly.

“Also, man the gun on the truck.

I’m afraid this won’t be an easy fight.” Following her orders, Caleb backed away and headed toward the vehicle.

Ginny knew that this group likely came with ill intentions.

Before Caleb could even reach the truck, a man stepped out to block his path.

Sure enough, as the crowd approached, the bald man leading them gave Ginny a sleazy grin.

“Hey there, gorgeous.

Looks like you’ve only got a few people, while we’re thirty-two strong.

What do you say?

Want to team up?”

“We’re out of food.

If we team up with you, will there be food?”

“Haha, you’re a funny one, gorgeous!

We’ve already cleared out two or three large supermarkets nearby.

So, how about it?

Want to join us?”

Although the man posed it as a question, Ginny and her companions knew that the only acceptable answer was “yes.” However, unsure of how far the group in the car had recovered, Ginny didn’t dare to take any risks.

She feigned a look of deep hesitation and exchanged a quick glance with Caleb, desperately trying to come up with a countermeasure.
