Sheng Jinhe closed the door and immediately noticed her grandfather watching her.

“What’s up?” she asked, puzzled.

Hadn’t he agreed to her going to the countryside? All the paperwork was done!Full novel: Waking Up in the 1970s, Chasing a Down-on-His-Luck Bigshot to the Countryside to Live a Blessed Life — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Nothing, I just suddenly realized you’ve grown up!” he said.

“Well, Grandpa, you’re still young as ever!” Sheng Jinhe replied sweetly.

“Alright, I’ll stay home with you tomorrow and take you to the station the day after,” her grandfather said with a smile.

“Grandpa, don’t. You should go to work as usual. I have things to do tomorrow, and the factory can’t run a day without you,” she said.

“But you’ll personally make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I’ll definitely come back to eat,” he insisted.

Sheng Jinhe smiled. “Alright, then. I’ll go get some sleep.”

“Good girl,” he said.

Sheng Jinhe went back to her room, changed her clothes, grabbed a sack, and climbed out the second-floor window, leaving one final gift for her worthless father.

After returning, she began writing her report.

Of course, it targeted the Sun family, and the list of charges was long: hoarding banned books, storing illegal items, correspondence with subversive ideas, being a suspected enemy agent… everything was included.

She was excellent at this kind of thing!

After finishing, she stored the report in her space, then picked a few English and Japanese books, made copies, and placed them in a folder—planning to pay the Sun family a visit that night.

[Master, may I start talking now?]

He Miao had stayed out of Sheng Jinhe’s way earlier while she was busy gathering supplies, and now that was done, it was time to share intelligence.

“Hmm, get me a bottle of chilled cola.”

[You won’t drink it all at once, right?]

Sheng Jinhe had first asked about the space situation, but hadn’t gotten the chance to check fully, so she asked.

[Forgot to tell you: your villa’s supplies automatically replenish once a month. The quantity matches your original stock, and any excess accumulates. I’ll organize it in a simple warehouse for you, including guns, ammo, and medicine.]

[It’s definitely enough for you, no need to worry.]

He Miao replied.

“Fine, if it’s not enough, you just make more—I’m not worried.”

“Now, tell me what’s happening on your side!”

Sheng Jinhe drank a gulp of the chilled cola, feeling instantly refreshed.

Before Shen Wang left, she had sent He Miao to gather intelligence in a certain military district, mainly about the Sun family—their exact location and basic details.

[Master, the Sun family’s route map is synced. That cactus in their study shared some juicy gossip! For example, the Li family was sent to the countryside because the Sun family’s eldest daughter-in-law’s brother at a certain committee went along and planted some “evidence.” They’re also looking for a top-secret document that caused the Li family to be targeted in the first place. Even if the Li family goes to the countryside, they won’t let them go. They’ve sent people to follow, determined to find it. If the Li family refuses, they’ll kill each member one by one. Those sent to the countryside have lives like grass.]

[Master, you might want to tone down the killing aura. I’m just repeating what I heard—don’t harm the innocent. My male master is someone with great fortune; he’s just temporarily fallen on hard times. This little trouble won’t defeat him!]

He Miao sensed the tense atmosphere and spoke sweetly, full of survival instinct.

Hearing the words “male master” eased Sheng Jinhe’s mood slightly, and she said:

“Go on!”

This matched the general ending of the Li family in the book, though she hadn’t expected such hidden details.

[The Sun family has many treasures. Under Old Master Sun’s bed—seemingly ordinary but actually full of secrets. The big tree in the yard said that many good items were buried beneath it; when the Sun family dug, the roots punctured a box and exposed it.]

[Also, the Sun family eldest son has a lover outside…]

He Miao spent half an hour relaying information. Sheng Jinhe picked out several useful pieces, enriching her report even more.

“He Miao, immediately check the eldest daughter-in-law’s brother. He’s definitely not innocent; he might have hidden treasures. I’ll pay a visit later. There’s no moon tonight—dark and windy. Perfect for big moves.”

Sheng Jinhe radiated a chilling aura, her voice ice-cold.

He Miao shivered, recalling the scene of her master single-handedly dealing with multiple mercenaries, and silently offered prayers before replying:

[Understood. I’ll arrange it!]

He Miao returned in a few minutes.

[Master, here’s the latest news.]

“Thanks, He Miao. I’m so glad you’re here!” Sheng Jinhe said sincerely.

[Stop being so sentimental! Go see what I’ve secured these past few days!]

“What?”

[Grain! So much grain—yours to use as you wish!]

Sheng Jinhe loved hearing that.

Though her grandfather was the factory director with a decent salary, it didn’t solve the problem: there simply wasn’t enough food. Their household meals were only slightly better than an average small family, and they had to buy extra on the black market monthly. Hearing that grain was available, she immediately got up and headed outside.

“I’m going! Little He Miao, you’re like a god controlling this place!”

“Just a few days, and already this much grain? Doesn’t farming take time?”

Sheng Jinhe marveled at the makeshift grain warehouse with labeled storage. It was indeed simple, just a sign showing what was inside.

Still, she read the labels aloud:

“Grains: rice, wheat, corn, sorghum, millet, buckwheat; Beans: soybeans, fava beans, peas, mung beans, adzuki beans, kidney beans.”

“Wow, even in the real world, we’ve never seen this much grain, He Miao!”

She could no longer describe her astonishment with mere words.

“Hmm, are these processed?”

“Rice, flour, cornmeal, sorghum flour, bean oil!”

“He Miao, you’re amazing!”

“I’m going to the black market tomorrow. Is it okay if I handle some of this?”

[Of course, it’s all yours. You can do as you wish. It takes just two days here to grow a batch of crops.]

He Miao twirled around, showing off.

“Yes, yes, He Miao, I bow to you, master!”

Sheng Jinhe started planning how to sell it, looking for a big black market deal, grab the money, and leave.

When her plan was ready, it was time for her nighttime mission.

She changed into an all-black biker outfit and quietly went downstairs. To avoid her grandfather noticing, she gave him a harmless sedative.

Then she swaggered out, skillfully climbing over the courtyard wall.

Sheng Jinhe was pleased with her current body, though still weaker than before.

After reaching a street, she pulled her motorbike from the space. It had a silencer, so she sped off quietly toward the military district compound.
