That afternoon, the twelve knight lords signed the documents of fealty in the great hall of the Holy Oak Castle.
The instant the silver quills landed on the parchment, the handover of the entire planet officially began.
Magnus took a keen interest in this planet, which was highly similar to the one where Ohrmuzd had made his name.
He ordered the entire army to rest and reorganize on-site for half a month and mobilized all the legion’s scribes and data scanners.
Eight thousand years of accumulation in the main library of the Holy Oak Castle— from house chronicles to ancient star maps, from knight mech forging techniques to primitive psychic doctrines—were all copied, backed up, packed, and transported to the library of his flagship, the Photep.
“Knowledge is humanity’s most precious wealth.” Standing among bookshelves piled high with ancient tomes, Magnus’s eyes flickered with a fanatic light.
“These lost psychic inheritances might help us take a further step in understanding the essence of the Warp.”
Levi stood to the side without speaking.
Over this half month, he walked through every corner of the Holy Oak Castle and scanned all the materials he could find, and his system points soared all the way to over twenty-three thousand.
Yet the unease in his heart grew heavier and heavier.
It was too normal.
So normal it was absurd.
Although the knights were arrogant, they strictly abided by the fealty agreement without any overt compliance but covert opposition; the commoners, though curious about the Imperium’s arrival, did not resist in the slightest; psychic energy swept across the entire planet, and not even a trace of abnormal Warp fluctuation could be found.
But this was the Warhammer universe.
There was no peace without reason, especially for a legion like the Thousand Sons, who were innately and deeply bound to the Warp.
When the Emperor was on Prospero, that golden light spanning the planet was enough to suppress all restless Warp energy, and no one dared to make a move under his nose.
But now they had left the Emperor’s protection and ventured deep into the unknown sea of stars.
Those malices lurking deep within the Warp had no reason to let slip such a good opportunity.
“What are you thinking about?” Ahriman walked to his side, holding a newly transcribed rune manuscript.
“I see you’ve been absent-minded these past few days.”
“Nothing.” Levi smiled.
“Just feeling that this planet has gone too smoothly, so smoothly it makes one’s hair stand on end.”
Ahriman froze for a moment, then also furrowed his brows.
Having experienced the darkness of the Flesh Change, he was clearer than anyone about what kind of whirlpools might be hiding beneath a seemingly calm surface.
He paused but still could not think of anything abnormal about this Knight World that had already submitted to the Imperium.
“I think you’re overthinking this, my Lord Chief Librarian.”
Afterward, he lowered his voice and said, “I was just chatting with the old lord’s steward.
He said that deep in the dense forest outside the Holy Oak Castle, there is also an abandoned, hidden library.
It is said to hold the oldest psychic knowledge.
It has been sealed for over a millennium, and even successive lords have not dared to enter.”
Levi’s heart gave a violent thump.
Here it comes.
“You want to go take a look?” Levi asked.
“Yes.” Ahriman nodded, a trace of anticipation in his eyes.
“Back then on the planet Varnum, Ohrmuzd also discovered a similar hidden library and found a lot of lost psychic knowledge inside.
I want to see if there will be a similar harvest in here.”
“Alright, we will go together tomorrow.” Levi agreed immediately, but in his heart, he had already begun to calculate.
He turned and returned to his room and immediately opened the system shop.
[Wizard World Holy Light Holy Water (Concentrated Version): 50 points per bottle, can purify low-tier Abyssal pollution]
[Lesser Purification Rune Array Disc: 200 points/each, releases a large-area purification energy in a single use]
[Silver Evil-Smiting Bullet: 10 points/round, deals extra damage to Abyssal entities]
[Holy Light Crystal Grenade: 300 points/each, the holy light produced by the explosion can scorch Abyssal projections]
Levi didn’t even blink, spending five thousand points in one breath to buy a huge pile of all the purification items he could purchase, stuffing the storage space in his system full.
No matter what kind of ghost thing was hiding inside, blow it up a wave first and talk later.
Better to kill the innocent than let the guilty go free.
Early the next morning, the two of them led dozens of the most elite Thousand Sons warriors and arrived at that hidden library deep in the dense forest.
In front of a moss-covered stone wall, Ahriman turned a hidden oak leaf stone carving on the wall according to the steward’s instructions.
Accompanied by a heavy sound of friction, the stone door slowly opened, revealing a pitch-black passage.
A cold wind blew from deep within the passage, carrying a faint smell of dust, without any abnormal aura.
“It looks like just an ordinary abandoned library,” a warrior said in a low voice.
Levi, however, shook his head and reached out to stop Ahriman, who wanted to enter.
“Don’t rush.”
He pulled out three Holy Light Crystal Grenades from his storage space, pulled the safety pins, and threw them straight into the depths of the passage.
“What are you doing!” Ahriman was greatly startled.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Three violent explosions rang out deep in the passage, and dazzling golden light swept through the entire corridor.
But the expected shrieks and sizzling sounds of burning did not appear.
After the golden light dispersed, the passage remained completely intact.
Even the moss on the walls had not been scorched.
Instead, at the very deepest part of the passage, on the originally pitch-black ground, a circle of golden runes complex to the extreme lit up, slowly rotating and radiating a gentle and pure soul fluctuation.
Ahriman furrowed his brows tightly, his psychic energy carefully probing over.
it is very warm.”
Following the passage to the end, the crowd finally realized that there was no library here at all.
The entire underground space only contained that circular array ten meters in diameter in the center.
The runes were intertwined layer upon layer, and every line flowed with faint golden light.
The instant their gazes swept over it, without words and without sound, a message abruptly nailed itself into their souls—
Resurrection.
Levi frowned and used the system to scan the array.
The next second, the prompt popped up by the system made his pupils contract abruptly:
[Detected Ancient Soul Restoration Array (Complete): A forbidden array constructed from pure Abyssal energy, capable of recalling a complete soul that has been dead for no more than a century and reshaping its physical body.
Exchange Price: 120,000 points]
One hundred and twenty thousand points!
And…
it can really resurrect the dead?
Before Levi could recover from his shock, a “thud” suddenly came from beside him.
He turned his head and saw that Ahriman had already taken off his helmet and knelt stiffly on the ground.
His hands were clenched tightly into fists, and his shoulders trembled violently.
This eternally calm and self-possessed Chief of the Corvidae School was now like a child, tears sliding silently from the corners of his eyes.
“It can resurrect…
it can really resurrect…” he murmured to himself, his voice hoarse beyond recognition.
“Ohrmuzd…
I can bring you back…”
Levi’s heart skipped a beat.
He had never seen Ahriman like this.
For thirty years, his brother’s death had been a thorn forever stuck in his heart, a regret he wanted to use everything he had to make up for.
Now, there was suddenly hope to pull this thorn out.
But for some reason, the unease in Levi’s heart grew even heavier instead.
It was too coincidental.
It just happened to be a planet similar to the one where Ohrmuzd made his name; there just happened to be a hidden chamber sealed for a millennium; it just happened to hold an array capable of resurrecting the dead.
All of this was simply like a gift tailor-made for Ahriman by someone.
