Guilliman’s Wrath, this card signifies the sanction of order, the descent of authority, and the wrath of a sovereign.
But what Klein drew was the reversed form.
Meaning the collapse of order, the dissolution of authority, and the death of a monarch.
Yet Klein’s intuition told him that beyond these intrinsic meanings, the Guilliman’s Wrath card revealed something far more direct.
Cicero and the cultists behind him, their true objective was intimately tied to Roboute Guilliman.
And Klein had merely happened to stand in their path.
Klein rose to his feet and paced back and forth in the room.
His thoughts gradually clarified.
It was obvious that Cicero’s desire to become a tutor in Marcus Guilliman’s household had everything to do with Roboute Guilliman.
But the scholar had claimed first place in the initial interview through sheer academic merit, which provoked a sense of crisis in Cicero.
He deliberately approached the scholar and lured him into gambling.
The scholar’s fall came so swiftly that there was likely some Warp sorcery at work.
Even the scholar’s suicide had probably been facilitated by Warp sorcery.
The veil over the Warp on the night of the scholar’s suicide was relatively thin, clearly no coincidence, but a moment in time deliberately chosen by the cultists.
But…
but what exactly was the goal of Cicero and the cultists behind him?
And what were the specifics of their plan?
Klein reviewed the memories of his past life.
There seemed to be no trace of Cicero or these cultists in Macragge’s future.
Did that mean they had failed?
That would be perfectly normal.
After all, the veil over Macragge was so thick that even the gods’ interference in Macragge was limited…
No.
They had very likely succeeded.
At least in part.
Klein’s expression darkened.
The thick veil both blocked the Warp’s influence and made it easier for cultists to hide.
In the scholar’s memories and from what Klein had observed today,
Macragge’s public order was excellent.
Throughout the city, there were urban guards established by Archon Konor.
These urban guards were the very warriors who had followed Konor in his expedition into Illyrium.
Yet later, the soldiers who should have been defending Macragge would drown themselves in the madness of alcohol and the seduction of wealth, plunging Macragge into chaos and riot.
Konor himself would die in that uprising, killed by assassins sent by another Archon, Gallan.
That was clearly unnatural…
Reversed Guilliman’s Wrath…
Could the cult behind Cicero be a faction aligned with Archon Gallan?
At this moment, Klein had never missed Inquisitor Greyfax so dearly, missed this mentor who struck hard against cultists.
Hard times call for able generals; chaos calls for loyal ministers.
Inquisitor Greyfax, I miss you!
Klein exhaled a breath, steadied himself, and sat back down at the wooden desk, folding his hands and pressing them against his brow.
First, the earlier idea of fleeing into the mountains of Macragge was entirely infeasible now.
His own emergence could very well bring about some butterfly effect.
If the original course of history were to deviate, allowing Roboute Guilliman to be corrupted by Chaos, that would truly be the end.
The intensity of the Horus Heresy would absolutely not surpass that of the Guilliman Heresy.
In the future, Guilliman’s Ultramarines Legion would become the largest of all legions, numbering a full two hundred and fifty thousand.
Yet this was not the limit of Guilliman’s operational capability, it was merely the limit the Imperium permitted.
After suffering the devastating blows of the Battle of Calth and the Shadow Crusade, Guilliman could effortlessly restore the Ultramarines to a strength of two hundred and fifty thousand, which proved this point.
Beyond this consideration, there was also the matter of Dita.
If Klein were to flee, the debt would likely fall upon Dita’s head.
Dita was a good child and did not deserve such treatment.
For this reason, Klein needed to find a way to enhance the strength of this physical body.
He had to cross the veil, to allow this body’s psychic talent to truly awaken.
And aside from enhancing his psychic abilities,
Klein actually had another method, one that was more effective and had a higher ceiling…
A method he had always wanted to attempt before, but had never found the opportunity to try due to the unsafe environments of the Hive City and the forests of Caliban.
Klein subtly withdrew his consciousness from the scholar’s body.
The scorching heat of the Golden Throne immediately coiled around Klein.
The intense pain nearly made Klein doubt whether his very will had been ignited.
Klein’s expression twisted and contorted, but he remained lucid.
His perspective split into two…
One remained within the scholar’s body, while the other ascended into the Warp, gazing down from the Golden Throne upon the soul-fires of all living beings.
Klein gasped roughly, clutching his chest, and his body went limp as he slid directly off the chair.
“Ahh!” Dita, who had just finished cooking the soup and was pushing open the door with a bowl in hand, let out a shriek.
The soup bowl slipped from her grasp and spilled across the floor.
She rushed forward and supported Klein, who lay on the ground, his body trembling ceaselessly.
“So hot!” Dita felt the heat radiating from beneath Klein’s skin and let out a cry of alarm.
It was as if flames were burning inside Klein’s body, making his skin scalding to the touch.
Dita went pale with fright.
“Uncle Klein, hold on, I’ll go find a doctor right away–”
“No need.” Klein grasped Dita’s wrist and gently shook his head.
He took several deep breaths, his expression settling down.
The temperature of his body gradually returned to normal, as if the searing heat moments ago had been nothing more than Dita’s hallucination.
It worked… The source of this chapter is g.com.
Klein regarded the two perspectives before him.
He blinked, and the view from atop the Golden Throne gradually thinned.
The intense pain likewise slowly receded, transforming into a neural burning sensation akin to background noise, but for Klein, it was still bearable.
Just as he had suspected.
Klein’s soul was in fact still upon the Golden Throne.
What controlled the scholar’s body was merely his extended will, like a hand he had stretched out.
When a person uses one hand, they can use the other at the same time.
In theory, Klein could also control two or even multiple bodies simultaneously.
Klein was now dividing his attention.
The majority of his will still controlled this body, but he had left a sliver of will upon the Golden Throne.
That sliver of will could only perform simple tasks, such as searching through the Warp for new, usable bodies.
This still caused Klein pain, but the intensity of the pain was directly proportional to the amount of will he left upon the Golden Throne.
At its current level, it was entirely acceptable for Klein.
If he could find a new body, Klein would not only acquire new skills, but would also have a usable vessel even after this body died.
“I’m fine.
I was just burned by the candle flame.” Klein wiped the fine sweat from his brow and said to Dita with a smile.
“R-really?” Dita was still somewhat worried.
“Of course.
Do you think I’ve been made a scapegoat by some dried corpse strapped to the torture rack of the Golden Throne?” Klein said deliberately in a playful tone.
“What on earth are you talking about?” Dita couldn’t help shaking her head, but seeing that Klein was all right, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Be more careful next time.” Dita stood up and looked at the soup bowl spilled on the floor.
“Look, your dinner is gone.”
“The soup spilled…
then what am I supposed to eat?” Klein rose from the ground, scratching his head as he addressed Dita.
“Go hungry!” Dita nodded, letting out a soft huff.
“I have to go hungry too?”
Dita glanced at Klein, and finally sighed with a hint of resignation.
“I’ll split mine with you.”
“Yay.”
Moments later…
“What did you add to the soup?”
“The Talassar fish sauce you bought.”
“I thought it was Barbarus dung!”
