The apartment was finally quiet.

Too quiet.

Mira dropped her bag near the couch and sat down slowly, exhaustion settling heavily into her body.Full novel: WHEN SEOUL FELT LIKE HOME — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her eyes still burned faintly from the drops, and the dull headache behind them refused to leave.

For a few seconds, she simply sat there silently.

Then suddenly—

“kya ho raha hai mere life mein…”

A tired sigh escaped her lips.

“Pata nahi kaisa din tha aaj.”

She leaned back against the couch and shut her eyes tightly.

“Socha tha acha din jaayega…”

“New city, new apartment… maybe thoda peaceful hoga sab.”

A humorless laugh escaped her.

“Eye checkup ne poora din hi barbaad kar diya.”

And somehow— that immediately brought him back into her mind.

Not his face.

She still couldn’t remember that clearly.

Everything from that moment felt blurry in her memory— except his voice.

Cold.

Suspicious.

Annoyingly calm.

“Aur upar se woh ajeeb banda…”

Mira frowned immediately.

“Ek baar phir saamne aajaye na mere…”

She pointed angrily toward the empty air.

“Chabuk se maarungi usko.”

Her own words made her scoff softly.

“Itna dara diya mujhe.”

“I was literally trying to explain myself aur usko lag raha tha main koi criminal hoon.”

She mimicked his voice mockingly.

“A sasaeng.”

“Waah.”

“Kaunsa celebrity hai bhai tu?” she muttered under her breath.

“Pata bhi nahi mujhe.”

The frustration slowly faded into exhaustion again.

Mira pulled her knees closer and rested her head back against the couch.

Everything about today felt messy.

The move.

The hospital.

The misunderstanding.

Even Seoul itself still didn’t feel real yet.

Her phone buzzed somewhere inside her bag, but she barely noticed it.

Another call came a few minutes later.

Then another.

But sleep had already started pulling her under.

And somewhere between overthinking and exhaustion—

Mira fell asleep on the couch without realizing it.

Completely unaware that her father had been trying to reach her.

Across the hallway, another apartment remained awake.

Yejun sat quietly near the kitchen counter, one hand wrapped around a coffee mug that had long gone cold.

But his thoughts weren’t there.

They kept returning to the same thing.

Apartment 507.

The new neighbor.

He still couldn’t decide what bothered him more— the situation itself…

or the fact that he couldn’t fully convince himself she was pretending.

Yejun leaned back slightly and closed his eyes for a second.

Maybe he had reacted too harshly.

Not after years of people crossing boundaries without permission.

Still…

something about her reaction felt genuine.

The confusion in her voice.

The immediate apology.

The embarrassment after he stepped back.

A quiet sigh escaped him.

If situations like this repeated again…

maybe he really would have to consider changing apartments.

The thought alone annoyed him.

Because he liked this place.

It was peaceful.

Private.

Safe.

And he didn’t want anything disturbing that balance.

Yet somehow— the blurry-eyed stranger next door had already managed to stay on his mind longer than she should have.

Nearly two hours later, Mira stirred awake slowly.

The apartment was darker now, evening light spilling softly through the windows.

For a second, she looked around in confusion before remembering where she was.

“Oh no…”

She quickly grabbed her phone.

Five missed calls.

Three from her father.

One from her cousin.

“Gayi beta tu toh.”

Mira called back immediately.

The moment the call connected, her father’s worried voice came instantly.

“Mira?

Tu theek hai na?”

“Haan papa, I’m fine,” she said quickly, sitting up properly.

“Bas so gayi thi.”

“Aise kaun phone ignore karta hai?

Kabse call kar raha hoon.”

A guilty smile appeared on her face.

“Sorry… aankh ka checkup tha na today.

Medicine ki wajah se neend aa gayi.”

The worry in his tone softened slightly after hearing that.

“Khaya kuch?”

Mira looked toward the untouched kitchen silently.

“…Haan.”

The small lie came naturally.

Her father sighed softly, already knowing.

“Mira.”

“Papa please…” she groaned tiredly.

“Sorry.”

That finally earned the faintest laugh from him.

“Take care of yourself.”

“I will.”

After the call ended, Mira let out a tired breath and rubbed her eyes lightly.

Then paused.

Her vision was finally clear.

Completely normal again.

And somehow— that immediately brought one thought back.

That irritating man.

Mira crossed her arms instantly.

“Ab clearly dekh sakti hoon main.”

She frowned toward the wall beside her apartment.

“Pehle mil jaaye bas phir.”

The annoyance returned so naturally that she almost laughed at herself.

Maybe because the entire situation had been so embarrassing.

Or maybe because his voice had stayed in her mind longer than she wanted.

Needing fresh air, Mira finally stepped out toward the balcony.

Cool evening wind brushed softly against her face the moment she stepped outside.

For the first time since arriving in Seoul, things felt calm.

Quiet city lights stretched endlessly ahead of her.

Beautiful.

Unfamiliar.

Lonely.

Mira slowly rested both her hands against the railing and closed her eyes.

The wind moved softly through her hair, calming the heaviness sitting inside her chest.

No thoughts.

No overthinking.

Just silence.

Inside the apartment across from hers, Yejun sat lazily on the couch while Junho searched through the kitchen cabinets.

“Yejun, where did you keep the ramen?” Junho asked casually.

Yejun didn’t even look up from his phone.

“You literally brought it, hyung.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

A quiet scoff escaped Yejun.

Meanwhile, Junho walked toward the balcony while still muttering under his breath about Yejun being unhelpful.

But the moment he stepped outside— his movements slowed.

His eyes landed on the balcony beside theirs.

A girl stood there quietly with her eyes closed, hands resting lightly against the railing as the evening breeze moved gently around her.

For a moment—

Junho simply stared.

Not because she was trying to get attention.

Not because she looked glamorous.

It was the opposite.

She looked peaceful.

Soft.

Lost somewhere inside her own thoughts without realizing someone was watching her.

The city lights reflected faintly against her face while strands of hair moved softly in the wind.

And somehow— the entire scene felt strangely beautiful.

Junho blinked slowly, almost surprised by the sudden stillness that settled inside him.

Then quietly— almost unconsciously— a small smile appeared on his face.

Behind him, Yejun’s voice suddenly broke the silence.

“Hyung?”

Junho looked away immediately.

“Hm?”

“You found the ramen or not?”

That finally pulled a soft chuckle out of him.

But before going back inside— his eyes drifted once more toward the girl standing on the neighboring balcony.

Still unaware.

Still quietly standing beneath the same night sky as them.

One spent the night irritated by a voice he couldn’t forget.

The other kept replaying a misunderstanding with someone whose face she never properly saw.

Neither of them realized it yet— but somewhere between guarded walls, tired hearts, loneliness, and silence… their story had already begun.

Maybe that’s how some connections are meant to happen.

Not perfectly.

Not beautifully.

But quietly.

Like two people standing under the same night sky, unaware that life is slowly pulling them toward each other.
