“We are Elders of the Moon Resplendent Sect!
Every hopeful Disciple in the immediate area please make your way to the pavilion in order to be tested!
You have until noon tomorrow to gather here!”
A booming, powerful voice echoed throughout our mountain as the Elders of the Moon Resplendent Sect announced their arrival to our town, causing many hopeful people – young and old – to rush to their feet and make the journey over to the pavilion.
I was one of them, and although I had been in the middle of hoisting a large boulder up onto my shoulders I knew I wanted to get this over with as soon as possible because just waiting any longer would make my nerves grow in abundance.
Shifting the boulder to the side and letting it drop off of my shoulders, I stepped aside as a wave of mud splashed up from the impact, and then proceeded to flinch as Mother shouted my name from inside when she heard the crash.
“Isabella!”
Throwing the window open and looking around with panic for a moment, though the moment Mother saw that I was fine and that I was the cause of that loud noise she immediately glared at me and raised the spoon in her hand rather threateningly.
Before she could shout at me and try and reprimand me for being careless, I waved goodbye and rushed away from our house, not minding that my robes were a little dirty since the rain would most likely wash them off.
Mother shouted something at me when I set off running, but because of the downpour, thudding of my heart and the sound of my boots smacking against the muddy path I couldn’t tell what she had said.
A quick glance back allowed me to see Mother waving at me, so I waved back before putting my head down and rushing to the pavilion, trying to ignore the humming adrenaline in my veins that I had only ever felt whenever something dangerous had happened to me.
Trying to push that rush of adrenaline down and calm my nerves even just a little felt almost impossible, and when I got closer to the town I saw a lot of different people making their way to the pavilion. This chapter is updated first at novelping(.)com.
Young and old, male and female, all kinds of people from the town were making their over to that pavilion, and some of them were maybe going to get selected…
though it was unlikely since we rarely managed to produce anyone worthy of entering the Sect.
Most knew that and were just going to see the strong Elders from the Sect that kept us safe from all of the monsters roaming around in the valleys below, but this time…
I was completely certain that I was going to get selected, because even last time they had admitted that I was just a tad bit too weak to get in.
It had stung at the time, but looking back at it the use of ‘tad bit’ meant that I was right there, I just needed to take a few more steps forwards and I would have been in; it wasn’t impossible anymore, and now that Giovanni and Leo were already up in the city above I knew that I needed to get in.
That conviction now was stronger than it had ever been, so I was certain that I would get in because now I was someone they couldn’t just overlook like they had before…
though it also meant that if I failed now, I was going to be so very devastated…
Pushing through the crowd that was lingering around the fringes of the pavilion, I caught sight of three figures levitating just a few feet over the ground, their robes pristine and billowing softly as they looked around the area with sharp eyes.
The one in the middle was a mountain of a man, larger than my Father by just a tad, and strapped to his back were twin axes that looked heavy enough and long enough to be considered a two handed weapon for me or my Father, yet they were apparently his to dual wield.
His chiseled body and face were drawing a lot of attention from the women of the town, and that soft smile he wore contrasted his bulk a lot, causing even more women to swoon for him despite him being large enough to snap them in two with ease.
On his left was a woman that was already causing quite a few problems with the married couples of the town, her crimson robe clinging tight to her abundant curves while her plump lips were curled into a mischievous smirk as she looked around and basked in the attention.
Her cleavage was deep and laid bare to the world, her bright red eyes were sparkling with interest as she looked every single man in the eye and made sure they were captivated by her, and she also had a heavy serrated whip coiled up on her hip, sending a chill down my spine since that sort of weapon looked very…
sadistic.
The other Elder on his right was a scholarly woman with thick glasses and pinned up black hair, her sharp obsidian eyes sweeping over everyone inquisitively while the thick tome in her hands shone with a pale silver light, its pages flipping without her touching them. She was the first of the three to notice me, and the moment she did she looked down at her tome for a few seconds before returning her gaze to me, pointing at me with a silver clad finger as she said “You there, the silver eyed Werewolf.
Step forwards.”
Her two companions immediately looked at me too, causing my knees to buckle slightly as the weight of their attention pressed down on my shoulders, but I knew that appearing weak here would hinder my chances so I squared myself up, took a breath and then stepped forwards.
My fellow townsfolk parted ways for me as I walked forwards, and the closer I got the larger that red clad woman’s grin became as she studied me closely, her eyes trailing up and down my body before settling on my face once she noticed that I was staring back at her.
“Ooh, aren’t you something~?
Seventh Foundation, handsome, decently balanced Qi…
looks strong too.
Physical laborer, most likely?”
Her voice was as smooth as silk – everyone told me silk was smooth, so I assumed this was a nice comparison..?
– while her eyes shone even more, though the hearty laugh from the man stole my attention away from how seductive those eyes had become.
