The Cleaning Company employee felt something was off and asked Chi Yun Su and the other person with a hint of vigilance, “How did you two come to Black Port?”

Chi Yun Su, with her eyes reddened from dust, began spinning a tale to the Cleaning Company employee about her love story with ‘Guo Ruofan.’

The gist was that ‘Guo Ruofan’ came from a wealthy family, but they fell in love. However, his family was old-fashioned and conservative, unable to accept ‘Guo Ruofan’ being with a man who looked like a woman. After a series of emotional entanglements, she and ‘Guo Ruofan’ bravely chose to leave, moving to a place where ‘Guo Ruofan’s’ family couldn’t find them, to live a happy life together.Full novel: Wild Card Creation, As Long As It Works — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After listening to Chi Yun Su’s disjointed story, the Cleaning Company employee felt like there were many points he wanted to criticize.

For example, living a happy life in Black Port, or…

The Cleaning Company employee looked at the young woman with slightly messy long hair, exuding a fierce and heroic aura…

Oh, young man.

After a few seconds of awkward silence, the Cleaning Company employee checked their identification documents. Staring at the bright “Male” printed below Chi Yun Su’s photo, he once again questioned reality. Finally, he closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and said, “You have no records of being wanted, so you can indeed apply for a job at our Mirror.”

Mirror was the official name of the F171 Port Cleaning Company—Mirror Environmental Recycling Company.

After saying this, the employee pulled up the recruitment information from his wrist device. “Take a look at which positions you can apply for, and I’ll get the application forms for you.”

Chi Yun Su already knew which positions were available, but she still pretended to deliberate with ‘Guo Ruofan’ for a while. In the end, the two chose the positions they had planned from the start.

Mechanical Maintenance Assistant and Garbage Sorter.

The specialization listed under ‘Guo Ruofan’s’ identity was Interstellar Navigation Orbit Planning, which had nothing to do with the Cleaning Company. Indeed, aside from being a Garbage Sorter, there was nothing else he could do.

When the Cleaning Company employee saw the position Chi Yun Su applied for, his eyes lit up.

This role required specialized knowledge—something a Black Port resident couldn’t possibly handle. By choosing this position, Chi Yun Su’s identity suddenly became much more credible.

Moreover, they were in desperate need of a reliable Mechanical Maintenance Assistant at the moment.

It was like a timely rain.

Driven by these factors, the Cleaning Company employee quickly fetched two application forms and even brought over someone dressed like a Supervisor.

This Supervisor also had a smile in his eyes and looked at Chi Yun Su and the other person with a friendly expression. Watching them skillfully fill out the application forms and smoothly write down various identification numbers, he nodded in approval and promptly led them inside the Cleaning Company.

It went more smoothly than ‘Guo Ruofan’ had expected.

‘Guo Ruofan’ looked at Chi Yun Su with a hint of surprise.

He had told Chi Yun Su to get him out of Black Port within half a month, but in reality, the timeline wasn’t that urgent.

Anyone with common sense knew not to put all their eggs in one basket. ‘Guo Ruofan,’ having received a complete education, had planned to use Chi Yun Su to gather information about Black Port over these two weeks before figuring out how to escape.

But now…

It was only the fourth day.Stepping into the clean, bright interior of the Cleaning Company—a world completely different from Black Port—Guo Ruofan felt a subtle sense that he might have truly latched onto a powerful connection.

After passing several more checkpoints, including blood and DNA verification, which confirmed that their information matched the records in their citizen IDs, Chi Yun Su and the other finally received their assessment papers.

The mechanical maintenance work for the Cleaning Company posed no difficulty for Chi Yun Su. After all, Black Port was not a pleasant place, and many engineers were reluctant to go there. Chi Yun Su had previously taken on some repair jobs as a substitute.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so familiar with the inner workings of the Cleaning Company.

However, Chi Yun Su’s substitute work had mainly involved external equipment and instruments for the Cleaning Company. She had never actually seen the inside of the company before.

But not only Guo Ruofan, even Chi Yun Su herself felt that things were going a bit too smoothly.

Having effortlessly completed the exam, Chi Yun Su had just stepped out of the examination room when the Supervisor immediately approached her and asked, “How did you do?”

“Perfect score,” Chi Yun Su replied cautiously.

The Supervisor paid no mind to Chi Yun Su’s guarded attitude. Upon hearing the result, he praised her enthusiastically, “Excellent! As expected of a Long River Industries graduate—truly impressive.”

After saying this, the Supervisor directly announced, “You’re hired. Can you start working right away?”

At that moment, Chi Yun Su’s mind flashed with memories of many temporary workers she had seen being made scapegoats in the past.

This didn’t feel like good news.

However, Chi Yun Su remembered that she was a person in need of help. At this moment, she should be anxious and apprehensive, so she responded very proactively, “I have no problems with that.”

“Great!” The Supervisor became even more delighted and immediately led Chi Yun Su to her workplace.

Chi Yun Su quickened her pace to keep up and hurriedly asked, “What about the person who came with me?”

“Probably started picking up trash,” the Supervisor replied casually, not particularly concerned. Soon, they arrived at a room door. “We’re here. If anyone asks, just say you’re the new assistant.”

From inside the room, Chi Yun Su could hear familiar “company quotes” like, “Are you storing the unprocessed hazardous waste in your brain?” and “Your hands tremble even when tightening a screw—were you a dancing machine in a past life?” along with occasional sobbing sounds.

Hmm…

Now she understood why they had been so eager to hire her.

“Who’s inside?” Chi Yun Su couldn’t help but lower her voice and cautiously asked the Supervisor.

The Supervisor replied with a tone of despair, “An Inspector sent down from headquarters. He’s already fired two of our engineers.”

In short, it was someone they couldn’t afford to offend.

After hearing this, Chi Yun Su understood.

Oh—this was her tool to escape the Cleaning Company job.

Of course, she had to be officially signed before getting fired. Without a contract, she wouldn’t be considered a Cleaning Company employee and would have to return to where she came from, unable to hitch a ride on an Aircraft to leave Black Port.

Chi Yun Su gave the Supervisor a determined, resolute look, bravely pushed open the door… just a crack, attempting to sneak into the group of people being scolded.

But clearly, Chi Yun Su’s little plan quickly failed.

“Who are you?” The Inspector inside immediately looked at Chi Yun Su’s youthful face, his expression unfriendly.Chi Yun Su, flustered as instructed by the supervisor, replied softly, “I, I’m the new assistant.”

The Inspector sized up Chi Yun Su, his gaze finally settling on the calluses on Chi Yun Su’s hands. Suddenly, he spoke up, “Then tighten this screw.”

As he spoke, a screw flew toward Chi Yun Su, who hurriedly caught it.

Staring blankly at the screw in hand, Chi Yun Su looked utterly embarrassed but still hastily agreed, “Alright, alright. May I ask where this screw goes?”

“Something so simple, of course you have to figure it out yourself,” the Inspector sneered. “If you can’t even do that, how do you expect to be my assistant?”
