The Heavenly Seal Platform housed one of the oldest spirit-sealing formations in Qingqiu.

It stood at the highest point above the clouds, where mist gathered throughout the year and the wind swept across the mountaintop like a blade.

Anyone who approached it could feel the ancient pressure lingering in the air.Full novel: Wings Born of Ash — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Heavy.

Deep.

Almost suffocating.

It was as though the platform had existed for far too long, absorbing countless traces of time into every stone.

According to legend, the Heavenly Seal Platform had been left behind by an ancient mystical sect.

Only those truly bound to fate—those recognized by destiny itself—could awaken the spirit marks sleeping within its formation.

Yu Jin followed the young woman all the way up the mountain.

As they climbed higher, the path gradually disappeared beneath the mist until a spirit bridge emerged ahead.

It was made of floating stones suspended in midair.

Each stone hovered several feet from the next, connected only by faint strands of spiritual light.

Yu Jin stepped onto the first stone, and her foot paused almost imperceptibly.

Below her, white mist surged like an endless sea.

There were no railings on either side of the bridge and no visible ground beneath it.

One wrong step seemed enough to send someone falling straight into the void.

Wind rushed toward her from every direction, carrying the clean scent of grass, trees, and mountain air.

Yet beneath that familiar fragrance was something else.

Something ancient.

Something she could not quite describe.

Yu Jin had thought she would cross the spirit bridge calmly.

After all, it was only a path.

Nothing more.

But the moment her feet touched the floating stones, a faint uneasiness rose within her.

It was not fear of falling, nor was it the pressure of the height.

It was something much harder to explain.

A feeling that something hidden for a very long time was about to be revealed.

Yu Jin’s fingertips tightened slightly before slowly loosening again.

The movement was so small that no one else would have noticed it.

But Yu Jin did.

She did not stop.

She simply suppressed the faint disturbance in her heart and continued following the young woman ahead.

One step.

Then another.

Slowly and steadily, she made her way toward the Heavenly Seal Platform.

By the time Yu Jin reached the other side of the spirit bridge, the surrounding mist had grown thinner.

The platform finally came fully into view.

They wore long cyan ceremonial robes, their hems embroidered with intricate golden formation patterns.

The markings shifted slightly with the morning wind, catching faint traces of light.

Every elder wore an unusually solemn expression.

Their gazes were sharp and steady, almost as though they could see through the mist, through flesh and bone, and directly into a person’s heart and fate.

At the center of the formation stood Sect Master Ling Feng.

He held a ceremonial staff in one hand, his figure upright and unmoving, steady as a mountain.

Behind him, a golden formation disk floated silently in midair.

It turned slowly.

The light it gave off was not particularly bright, but faint tremors passed through it from time to time, almost as though the formation had already sensed the approach of something that had yet to awaken.

Yu Jin’s gaze moved past the elders.

Only then did she notice the disciples standing behind them.

Dozens of Qingqiu disciples had formed neat rows along the edge of the platform.

Every one of them wore the sect’s robes, and their expressions were tense.

Even their breathing seemed deliberately restrained.

Almost every pair of eyes was fixed on the center of the formation.

Fixed on her.

Yu Jin’s steps slowed slightly.

She had heard of the Fate Mark Trial before.

Most disciples had.

But very few had ever witnessed one in person.

Even among those who had, none had seen someone awaken what was known as a sealed fate.

Today was different.

Whatever happened on this platform would remain in the memories of everyone present for a very long time.

Yu Jin, however, had yet to fully recover from the suddenness of it all.

Only a short while ago, she had still been sitting alone in her room, trying to understand the mark between her brows.

Then came the discovery of the Fire Phoenix Mark.

The Sect Master’s command.

The Fate Mark Trial.

And now she was standing here beneath the eyes of the elders and dozens of fellow disciples.

Yu Jin could feel their gazes settling on her one after another.

There was no whispering and no open discussion.

No one said a word.

Yet somehow, the silence felt louder than any crowd of voices.

She had never been watched like this before.

It felt as though someone had suddenly pushed her beneath a bright light, leaving her with nowhere to retreat and nowhere to hide.

Her chest tightened slightly.

The uneasiness she had suppressed while crossing the spirit bridge quietly returned, pressing against her breathing.

Yu Jin lowered her gaze and slowly drew in a breath.

Once.

Controlled.

The tightness in her chest gradually eased.

She knew very well that retreat was still an option.

She could avoid whatever was waiting for her inside the formation.

That choice had always existed.

But it was not the choice she wanted to make.

Besides, she had already come this far.

“Yu Jin.”

Sect Master Ling Feng’s voice came from the center of the platform.

It was not loud, yet it carried a pressure that made every word impossible to ignore.

“Step into the formation.”

Yu Jin raised her eyes.

At the very center of the platform stood a large piece of green stone.

Ancient runes covered its surface from top to bottom.

The markings were dense and intricate, carved so deeply into the stone that they looked almost like veins.

It resembled the heart of an ancient spiritual formation, one that had been sleeping for countless years.

Yu Jin studied it for a moment.

Then she slowly exhaled and stepped forward.

At her first step, the formation lines beneath her feet lit up faintly.

At her second, the surrounding mist trembled.

With the third, Yu Jin entered the center of the formation.

At that exact moment, every light fell still.

The slowly turning golden formation disk stopped trembling.

The mist ceased moving.

Even the wind seemed to pause.

For one strange instant, it felt as though heaven and earth themselves were holding their breath.

Yu Jin stood at the center of the formation, the last trace of wind lifting the edges of her robes.

She did not activate her spiritual energy.

She did not attempt to probe the formation.

She simply stood there quietly and waited for a response.

One breath passed.

Then another.

Time continued to move.

But nothing happened.

The formation remained silent.

The ancient green stone did not react.

The golden disk behind Ling Feng continued hovering without the slightest change.

As the silence stretched on, the atmosphere upon the Heavenly Seal Platform slowly began to shift.
