The Greatest Genius of the Lin Clan
2: Chapter 2
The Greatest Genius of the Lin Clan
Lin Hao sat quietly on the edge of the wooden bed.
For several moments, he didn’t say anything.
He was still trying to process everything.
He had died on Earth.
He had awakened in another world.
He had become an old man.
And somehow, he had obtained a system that seemed far too proud of itself.
Lin Hao sighed.
“System.”
[Yes, Host?]
“Can you show me the memories of this body’s original owner?”
[Of course!]
The system sounded pleased.
[Although I must say, Host, you really should be grateful.
Without me, you would still be an old man lying around waiting for death.]
Lin Hao’s mouth twitched.
“You really like praising yourself, don’t you?”
[I don’t praise myself.]
A brief pause.
[I simply state facts.]
“…”
Lin Hao decided not to argue.
Suddenly, a flood of memories surged into his mind.
He closed his eyes.
Images flashed past.
A small village.
A group of children running through dusty streets.
A simple courtyard.
An old wooden house.
People working in the fields.
Women preparing meals.
Men carrying sacks of grain.
Children playing with sticks.
There were no magnificent palaces.
No flying swords.
No cultivators soaring through the sky.
No enormous spiritual beasts.
It was simply a family living an ordinary life.
The Lin Clan.
Lin Hao slowly opened his eyes.
“So this is the Lin Clan.”
[Correct.]
The system’s voice became slightly more serious.
[Your current family consists entirely of mortals.]
Lin Hao nodded.
The memories continued.
The Lin Clan had lived in the same region for generations.
They farmed.
They hunted.
They traded.
They occasionally traveled to nearby towns to purchase necessities.
Their wealth was measured in ordinary Copper Coins.
Spirit Stones?
They had never possessed one.
Cultivation techniques?
They had none.
Powerful treasures?
Nothing.
Even their understanding of the cultivation world was extremely limited.
They had heard stories about cultivators.
They had heard rumors about flying swords and powerful sects.
But those things belonged to a world far beyond their lives.
The Lin Clan had never considered itself a cultivation clan.
They simply wanted to live peacefully.
Raise their children.
Watch their grandchildren grow.
And eventually die as mortals.
Lin Hao remained silent for a while.
“They really are ordinary.”
[Extremely ordinary.]
The system paused.
[So ordinary that even I feel sorry for them.]
Lin Hao almost laughed.
“Don’t insult my family.”
[Host, I am merely stating their current circumstances.]
“Still.”
Lin Hao stood up.
His legs immediately trembled.
He nearly fell.
“Whoa!”
He grabbed the edge of the table.
The system immediately spoke.
[Host, please be careful.]
[Your current body is extremely weak.]
Lin Hao looked at his trembling hands.
“How old was this body?”
[Ninety-eight years old.]
Lin Hao’s face twitched.
“Ninety-eight?”
[Yes.]
“How long does he have left?”
The system went silent for a moment.
Then—
[Approximately three months.]
Lin Hao stared blankly ahead.
“Three months?”
[Correct.]
Lin Hao slowly sat back down.
He couldn’t help laughing.
“I really am unlucky.”
[Host!]
The system sounded offended.
[Please do not blame your incredible luck!]
Lin Hao rolled his eyes.
“You call this luck?”
[Of course!]
[You died naturally on Earth and were given another life.]
[You received the greatest Clan-Building System in existence.]
[You possess infinite potential.]
[And most importantly…]
The system paused dramatically.
[You have me.]
Lin Hao covered his face.
“I knew you were going to say that.”
Before the system could respond, footsteps came from outside the room.
An elderly man entered.
He wore simple gray clothing.
His face was weathered from years of work, but his expression was respectful.
“Ancestor.”
Lin Hao looked up.
The man’s name immediately appeared in his memories.
Lin Wei.
The current family head of the Lin Clan.
Lin Hao studied him carefully.
Lin Wei was already past middle age, but compared to Lin Hao’s current body, he looked remarkably energetic.
“Ancestor, you’re awake.”
Lin Wei walked closer.
“How are you feeling?”
Lin Hao hesitated.
Then he smiled.
“Better.”
Lin Wei’s expression softened.
“That’s good.”
He pulled over a wooden chair and sat beside the bed.
“Everyone was worried.”
Lin Hao nodded.
He looked at the man in front of him.
This was his descendant.
His family.
For the first time since awakening, the reality of his new identity truly settled into his heart.
He wasn’t alone.
There was a family here.
A family that depended on him.
“How is everyone?”
Lin Hao asked.
Lin Wei smiled.
“They’re fine.”
Then his expression became slightly embarrassed.
“Although…”
“Although what?”
Lin Wei sighed.
“We’re running low on grain.”
Lin Hao blinked.
“Grain?”
“Yes.”
Lin Wei scratched his head.
“The harvest wasn’t very good this year.”
Lin Hao stared at him.
The ancestor of the Lin Clan.
The legendary genius who had reached Level 1 Body Refining Realm in his youth.
The head of the clan.
And now his family was worried about food.
Lin Hao couldn’t help sighing.
“How much money do we have?”
Lin Wei thought for a moment.
“About three hundred Copper Coins.”
Lin Hao nearly choked.
“Three hundred?”
Lin Wei nodded.
“Yes.”
The room became silent.
Lin Hao looked toward the ceiling.
Then he muttered:
“System.”
[Yes, Host?]
“Are you sure I’m lucky?”
[Absolutely!]
“Three hundred Copper Coins.”
[A temporary inconvenience.]
“No cultivation techniques.”
[Temporary.]
“No Spirit Stones.”
[Temporary.]
“No resources.”
[Temporary.]
Lin Hao narrowed his eyes.
“And I’m ninety-eight years old.”
The system remained silent for two seconds.
Then—
[Also temporary.]
Lin Hao burst out laughing.
Lin Wei stared at him in confusion.
“Ancestor?”
Lin Hao waved his hand.
“Nothing.”
He looked at Lin Wei again.
“Call everyone.”
Lin Wei was surprised.
“Everyone?”
“Yes.”
Lin Hao’s expression became serious.
“I want to see my family.”
Lin Wei nodded.
“Alright.”
He stood up and walked toward the door.
But before leaving, he turned around.
“Ancestor.”
“Hm?”
Lin Wei smiled.
“You really scared us this time.”
Lin Hao looked at him.
For some reason, those simple words touched something deep inside him.
On Earth, he had already watched one lifetime disappear.
Now he had been given another.
Perhaps this time…
He wouldn’t spend it alone.
Lin Wei left the room.
Not long afterward, voices could be heard outside.
Children.
Adults.
People calling each other’s names.
Footsteps approached from every direction.
Lin Hao sat quietly.
Then the door opened.
The first group of people entered.
Lin Hao looked at them one by one.
These were his people.
His family.
And among them were the younger members of the Lin Clan.
The oldest of them was eighteen.
The youngest were three little girls who looked no older than seven.
One of them peeked at Lin Hao from behind an older family member.
Another immediately grabbed her sister’s hand.
The third simply stared at him curiously.
Lin Hao smiled.
“Come here.”
The three little girls hesitated.
Then one of them stepped forward.
“Ancestor?”
Lin Hao nodded.
“What are your names?”
The little girl pointed to herself.
“Lin Xin.”
She pointed to the girl beside her.
“That’s Lin Wan’er.”
Then she pointed to the third.
“And that’s Lin Shiyu.”
Lin Hao smiled.
“Triplets?”
All three nodded.
Lin Hao laughed softly.
“They’re adorable.”
The system suddenly spoke.
[Host!]
“What?”
[Your family has surprisingly good potential for cuteness.]
Lin Hao’s expression became strange.
“…That’s what you’re analyzing?”
[Of course.]
[A great clan requires great people.]
[And adorable children are clearly an important strategic resource.]
Lin Hao almost laughed again.
“You’re ridiculous.”
[I prefer the term magnificent.]
Lin Hao shook his head.
Then he looked around the room.
For the first time, he truly felt it.
This was no longer somebody else’s family.
This was his family now.
And he had only three months left.
But Lin Hao no longer felt afraid of death.
Because there was something he wanted to do first.
He wanted to change the fate of the Lin Clan.
The system’s golden screen quietly appeared before him.
[Clan-Building System]
Host: Lin Hao
Clan: Lin Clan
Family Points: 0
System Mall: Locked
Summoning Function: Locked
Lin Hao stared at it.
“System.”
[Yes, Host?]
“How do I unlock these functions?”
The system’s voice suddenly became extremely mysterious.
[Hehehe…]
Lin Hao raised an eyebrow.
“Why are you laughing like that?”
[Because, Host…]
The system paused.
[Your journey is about to become interesting.]
