The first thing Kael heard was his own heartbeat.
Slow.
Heavy.
Alive.
He opened his eyes.
Darkness surrounded him.
Not ordinary darkness.
This darkness had depth.
It seemed to breathe.
Kael tried to move.
Pain exploded through his body.
He gritted his teeth and pushed himself upright.
“Mara?”
No answer.
“Lyra?”
Nothing.
“First Mother?”
Silence.
Kael looked around.
He was alone.
The World Seed was gone.
The chamber beneath the palace was gone.
The kingdom was gone.
Even the golden moon had disappeared.
He stood on an endless black plain beneath a sky filled with thousands of dead stars.
Then someone spoke behind him.
“You always wake up alone.”
Kael turned.
Azeron stood several meters away.
But it wasn’t the Azeron Kael had known.
This version wore a crown made of black bone.
His silver hair flowed around his shoulders.
His eyes were white.
And his body seemed to shift between several forms.
Young.
Old.
Human.
Wolf.
Shadow.
King.
Monster.
Kael tightened his grip around his sword.
“Where are they?”
Azeron smiled.
“Which ones?”
“Mara.”
“Alive.”
“Lyra.”
“Alive.”
“The First Mother.”
Azeron tilted his head.
“Also alive.”
Kael took a step forward.
“Then take me to them.”
Azeron laughed.
“You still think you’re in control.”
Kael’s eyes narrowed.
“I’ve been through worse.”
“No.”
Azeron’s smile vanished.
“You haven’t.”
He raised one hand.
The darkness around Kael changed.
Suddenly Kael was standing in the palace.
Mara was beside him.
Lyra was laughing.
The kingdom was peaceful.
The golden moon shone overhead.
Kael looked around.
Azeron’s voice whispered:
“Wouldn’t you rather stay here?”
Kael ignored him.
“This isn’t real.”
Mara touched his arm.
“Kael.”
He looked at her.
Her eyes were warm.
“You can rest now.”
He shook his head.
“You aren’t Mara.”
She smiled sadly.
“Does it matter?”
Kael stared at her.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because the real Mara would never ask me to abandon everyone else.”
The illusion disappeared.
Azeron stood before him.
“Good.”
Kael raised his sword.
“Where are they?”
Azeron answered:
“In the place where all lost things go.”
Kael frowned.
“The Void?”
“No.”
Azeron’s smile returned.
“The Memory.”
The darkness opened.
Kael stepped through.
A cold wind struck him.
He found himself standing in a gigantic city.
But the city was made entirely from memories.
A house appeared beside him.
He recognized it.
It was the home where he had lived during his first human life.
He walked past it.
Another building appeared.
Mara’s childhood home.
Then Lyra’s first forest.
Then Azeron’s first kingdom.
Every memory existed here.
Thousands.
Millions.
Billions.
Kael stared.
“What is this?”
“The place beneath reality.”
Azeron walked beside him.
“Every thought ever forgotten comes here.”
“Why?”
“Because nothing truly disappears.”
Kael looked at him.
“That’s what you said.”
Azeron nodded.
“But you were wrong.”
Kael frowned.
“About what?”
“Some things should disappear.”
Azeron stopped.
“Some memories are too dangerous to survive.”
He pointed toward the horizon.
Kael saw an enormous tower.
It stretched beyond the clouds.
Its walls were covered with names.
Every name belonged to someone who had ever existed.
Azeron said:
“That is the Archive.”
Kael stared.
“How do we get there?”
“We don’t.”
Azeron smiled.
“It comes to us.”
The tower moved.
Not physically.
It simply appeared closer.
Then closer.
Until it stood directly before them.
Its doors opened.
A voice echoed:
**KAEL.**
Kael stepped forward.
“Who are you?”
**EVERYONE.**
The voice continued.
**EVERYTHING REMEMBERED.**
Kael looked at Azeron.
“Why bring me here?”
Azeron walked through the doorway.
“Because you need to remember the truth.”
“I already know the truth.”
“No.”
Azeron looked back.
“You know what I allowed you to remember.”
Kael followed.
“What did you hide?”
Azeron smiled.
“The beginning.”
The doors closed.
Darkness swallowed them.
Then light appeared.
Kael found himself standing beside a newborn universe.
There were no worlds.
No moons.
No stars.
Only two beings.
One was Kael.
The other was Azeron.
But they weren’t alone.
Something stood behind them.
A woman.
She had no face.
No eyes.
No mouth.
Only a white silhouette.
Kael stared.
“Who is that?”
Azeron didn’t answer.
The woman reached toward the newborn universe.
Everything stopped.
Kael’s breathing became difficult.
The First Mother appeared beside him.
But she was younger.
Much younger.
She was kneeling before the faceless being.
The being spoke.
**CREATE.**
The First Mother obeyed.
She created the first star.
Then the first planet.
Then the first ocean.
Then the first creature.
A wolf.
Kael watched.
“That’s me.”
Azeron nodded.
“No.”
Kael turned.
“What?”
“You weren’t the first wolf.”
Azeron pointed.
The wolf in the memory transformed.
It became a man.
Then another wolf.
Then another.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Kael watched in disbelief.
“How many?”
“Too many to count.”
“Then what happened?”
Azeron looked toward the faceless woman.
“She chose one.”
The woman approached a young wolf.
She touched its forehead.
The wolf became Kael.
The other wolves disappeared.
Kael stared.
“Why?”
Azeron whispered:
“Because you were the first one capable of imagination.”
Kael looked at him.
“And you?”
Azeron smiled bitterly.
“I was the first one capable of remembering.”
Kael’s expression changed.
“That’s why you remember everything.”
“Yes.”
“And why you became the Last Son.”
“Yes.”
Kael looked at the faceless being.
“Who is she?”
Azeron finally answered.
“Your mother.”
Kael froze.
“What?”
The First Mother stepped forward.
“No.”
Azeron looked at her.
“You knew.”
She shook her head.
“I knew only part of it.”
Azeron laughed.
“That’s the problem with creation.”
He looked toward the faceless being.
“She never told any of us the whole truth.”
Kael stared.
“Who is she?”
The faceless woman turned.
Her head moved toward him.
Then she spoke.
**I AM THE FIRST CHOICE.**
Kael felt the First Heart burn.
The woman continued:
**BEFORE CREATION, THERE WAS ONLY ONE POSSIBILITY.**
**ME.**
**I CHOSE TO CREATE.**
Kael whispered:
“And Silence?”
The woman turned toward the darkness.
**SILENCE WAS THE POSSIBILITY I REJECTED.**
Kael froze.
Azeron smiled.
“Now you understand.”
The truth struck Kael like a blade.
Silence wasn’t created by accident.
It was the choice that had been rejected.
The possibility of never creating anything.
The First Mother had chosen creation.
And that discarded possibility had become conscious.
It had become Silence.
Kael looked at Azeron.
“Then you’re not the Last Son.”
Azeron’s smile disappeared.
“No.”
“You were created after me.”
“Yes.”
“You were the first memory.”
“Yes.”
Kael looked toward the faceless woman.
“And Silence was the first rejection.”
“Yes.”
Kael’s voice became quiet.
“Then what are you?”
Azeron stared at him.
“I am the consequence.”
The Archive began shaking.
The faceless woman disappeared.
The walls cracked.
A voice echoed through the tower.
**THE CHOICE HAS BEEN FOUND.**
Kael raised his sword.
Silence appeared.
But this time, it was different.
Its human form was gone.
It was enormous.
A white figure with no face.
Kael recognized it.
The rejected possibility.
Silence looked at him.
**YOU KNOW NOW.**
Kael nodded.
“Yes.”
**THEN YOU KNOW WHAT MUST HAPPEN.**
Kael raised his sword.
“No.”
Silence paused.
**YOU MUST RETURN TO THE BEGINNING.**
“No.”
**YOU MUST UNCREATE EVERYTHING.**
“No.”
Silence’s voice grew louder.
**CREATION WAS A MISTAKE.**
Kael stepped forward.
“Maybe.”
Silence froze.
Kael continued.
“But it was our mistake to make.”
Silence stared.
“And that means…”
Kael raised his sword.
“…we get to decide what happens next.”
Silence attacked.
The Archive exploded.
Kael flew backward.
Azeron vanished.
The tower began collapsing.
Millions of memories fell around Kael.
He saw his entire life.
Every victory.
Every failure.
Every death.
Every person he had loved.
He saw Mara.
Lyra.
The First Wolf.
Elara.
Lucien.
Even Azeron.
Kael reached toward the memories.
“No!”
Silence raised its hand.
The memories began disappearing.
One by one.
Kael screamed.
“STOP!”
Silence continued.
Mara disappeared.
Lyra disappeared.
The First Wolf disappeared.
Kael’s own memories began fading.
He forgot his first transformation.
He forgot his kingdom.
He forgot his mother.
Then—
he forgot his name.
Silence whispered:
**NOW YOU UNDERSTAND.**
Kael stared into the darkness.
He couldn’t remember who he was.
He couldn’t remember why he was fighting.
He couldn’t remember what he was supposed to save.
Then something touched his hand.
Warm.
Familiar.
Kael looked down.
A small wooden wolf.
He didn’t know why he recognized it.
But he did.
A little boy.
A question.
**Are we going to die?**
Kael remembered his answer.
**I don’t know.**
Then:
**But I’ll fight to make sure you don’t.**
The memory returned.
Then another.
Mara.
**Come back.**
Another.
Lyra.
**Father.**
Another.
Azeron.
**Thank you, Father.**
Kael’s eyes opened.
Gold light exploded from his body.
Silence recoiled.
**NO.**
Kael stood.
His sword reformed.
“I remember.”
Silence attacked.
Kael met it head-on.
Their collision destroyed the Archive.
The force sent them both flying.
Kael landed on one knee.
Silence stood across from him.
“You cannot erase me.”
Silence spoke:
**I WILL ERASE EVERYTHING.**
Kael smiled.
“Then you’ll have to erase choice first.”
He raised his sword.
“And you can’t.”
Azeron appeared behind Silence.
He was bleeding.
But he was smiling.
“He’s right.”
Silence turned.
“You.”
Azeron raised his hand.
Black chains erupted from the ground.
They wrapped around Silence.
The entity screamed.
Azeron shouted:
“NOW!”
Kael understood.
He charged.
His sword became pure golden light.
He struck Silence in the chest.
A massive explosion followed.
The Memory collapsed.
Kael fell.
Azeron fell.
Silence vanished.
For a moment—
everything was quiet.
Then Azeron laughed.
Kael looked at him.
“You helped me.”
“Don’t misunderstand.”
Azeron struggled to stand.
“I’m not your friend.”
Kael smiled.
“You’re my brother.”
Azeron stared.
“Don’t call me that.”
“You are.”
“I hate you.”
“I know.”
Azeron looked away.
Then whispered:
“I don’t hate you as much as I used to.”
Kael smiled.
“That’s progress.”
Azeron rolled his eyes.
“You’re unbearable.”
The Archive began collapsing completely.
Kael looked around.
“How do we get out?”
Azeron pointed upward.
“You don’t.”
Kael frowned.
“What?”
“This place is collapsing.”
“So?”
“So someone has to hold it together.”
Kael understood.
“No.”
Azeron smiled.
“You always were slow.”
“You can’t stay here.”
“I can.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m made from memory.”
He looked around.
“This is my home.”
Kael shook his head.
“I won’t leave you.”
Azeron stepped closer.
“You have Mara.”
“Yes.”
“Lyra.”
“Yes.”
“A world.”
“Yes.”
“You have everything I wanted.”
Kael stared.
Azeron smiled.
“So don’t waste it.”
Kael grabbed his shoulder.
“Come with me.”
“I can’t.”
“You can.”
“No.”
Azeron pushed him toward the opening.
“Go.”
Kael refused.
Azeron shouted:
“GO!”
The Memory began collapsing.
Kael looked at his brother.
For a moment, neither moved.
Then Kael embraced him.
Azeron froze.
“Don’t.”
Kael held tighter.
“Thank you.”
Azeron whispered:
“Go.”
Kael stepped backward.
Azeron smiled.
“Tell Mara…”
“What?”
“Tell her…”
He hesitated.
Then laughed.
“Never mind.”
Kael smiled.
“I’ll tell her you loved us.”
Azeron looked away.
“I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to.”
Kael jumped through the opening.
The Archive collapsed behind him.
Azeron’s final words followed him.
“Father…”
Kael turned.
“…choose well.”
Kael opened his eyes.
He was back in the palace.
Mara was kneeling beside him.
Lyra was crying.
The First Mother stood nearby.
Kael took a breath.
Mara hugged him.
“You came back.”
Kael held her.
“I promised.”
Lyra hugged them both.
For a moment, everything was peaceful.
Then Kael looked toward the window.
The golden moon was gone.
In its place was a black moon.
The First Mother stepped backward.
“No.”
Kael stood.
“What?”
She pointed toward the sky.
A black crack spread across the moon.
Then another.
Then another.
The First Mother whispered:
“Silence wasn’t defeated.”
Kael looked at her.
“Then what happened?”
She stared at the moon.
“It was freed.”
The moon shattered.
Something enormous stepped through the broken sky.
A voice shook the world.
Not Silence.
Not Azeron.
Something deeper.
Something older.
**I HAVE WAITED LONG ENOUGH.**
Kael raised his sword.
Mara transformed.
Lyra’s eyes turned gold.
The First Wolf appeared behind them.
Kael stared at the creature descending from the broken moon.
“What are you?”
The creature smiled.
**I AM THE CHOICE THAT CREATED YOU.**
The First Mother fell to her knees.
Kael’s heart stopped.
The creature looked directly at him.
**AND I HAVE COME TO TAKE MY CREATION BACK.**
The world went dark.
And somewhere beyond the stars—
the first wolf began to howl.
