For the first time since the beginning of the war between worlds, there was no moon watching the earth.

An unnatural darkness settled across the kingdom.

No stars.

No silver light.

No golden glow.

Only silence.

Mara stood at the edge of the palace balcony, her eyes fixed on the heavens where Kael had disappeared.

Her hand rested over her heart.

She could still feel him.

Faintly.

Like the echo of a heartbeat carried by the wind.

Behind her, the kingdom mourned.

Thousands of wolves filled the streets below.

Every pack had gathered outside the palace.

They were silent, their heads lowered toward the ground.

The First Wolf stepped onto the balcony.

“It has begun.”

Mara didn’t look away from the sky.

“What has?”

“The Mourning Moon.”

She frowned.

“There isn’t a moon.”

“Exactly.”

The First Wolf’s golden eyes reflected the empty heavens.

“When the King of Wolves disappears, the moon leaves the sky until the next heir is found.”

Mara turned slowly.

“There will be another heir?”

The ancient wolf hesitated.

“There always has been.”

### The Empty Throne

Inside the palace, the throne room felt colder than ever before.

Kael’s throne stood untouched.

No one dared sit upon it.

Lyra walked toward it, her fingers brushing the carved wolves along its armrests.

A vision struck her instantly.

She saw Kael standing in the throne room, smiling as sunlight poured through the windows.

Then she saw the throne covered in blood.

Then she saw it empty.

The vision shattered.

Lyra stumbled backward.

Azeron caught her before she hit the floor.

“You saw something.”

She nodded.

“The throne…”

“What about it?”

“It doesn’t belong to anyone anymore.”

Azeron’s expression darkened.

“That’s impossible.”

“The throne rejected every future.”

The First Mother entered quietly.

She had heard everything.

“Then the world has no king.”

A heavy silence followed.

Mara entered moments later.

“Then we don’t need one.”

The First Mother looked at her.

“The world has never existed without a Moon King.”

Mara lifted her chin.

“Maybe that’s another rule we’re meant to break.”

### The Whispering Forest

That night, Lyra couldn’t sleep.

Something was calling her.

A whisper.

Soft.

Gentle.

Familiar.

Lyra…

She opened her eyes.

The whisper came again.

Come find me.

Her heart raced.

“Father?”

No answer.

Only the whisper.

She quietly left the palace.

Barefoot, she crossed the gardens and entered the Whispering Forest.

The trees glowed faintly beneath the black sky.

Mist curled around her feet.

The deeper she walked, the louder the voice became.

Then she reached a clearing.

At its center stood a tree unlike any she’d ever seen.

Its trunk was silver.

Its leaves were black.

And hanging from its branches were glowing golden fruits shaped like hearts.

Lyra stepped closer.

The tree pulsed.

A figure appeared beneath it.

A little boy.

He couldn’t have been older than seven.

Black hair.

Golden eyes.

He wore simple white clothes and held a small wooden wolf.

Lyra froze.

“…Kael?”

The boy smiled.

“No.”

“Then who are you?”

“I’ve been waiting.”

“For me?”

He nodded.

“My name is Lucis.”

The name echoed strangely inside Lyra’s soul.

“Why do I know that name?”

“Because Father never told you.”

Lyra frowned.

“Father?”

The boy pointed toward the tree.

“The first Kael.”

### The Forgotten Name

Far away, in a place beyond stars and worlds, Kael awoke.

He lay upon an endless sea of light.

Above him floated countless glowing doors.

Each door contained another universe.

He stood slowly.

“I’m alive.”

A familiar voice answered.

“Barely.”

Kael turned.

An old man stood behind him.

Long silver beard.

Eyes filled with galaxies.

A staff carved from moonstone rested in his hand.

Kael frowned.

“Who are you?”

The old man smiled.

“The Keeper.”

“Keeper of what?”

“Names.”

Kael looked around.

“What is this place?”

“The Hall of Beginnings.”

Kael’s heartbeat quickened.

“So I’m dead.”

The Keeper shook his head.

“No.”

“Alive?”

“Also no.”

Kael sighed.

“I really hate places between life and death.”

The Keeper laughed.

“You’ve visited too many of them.”

Kael folded his arms.

“Why am I here?”

The Keeper raised his staff.

A single glowing thread appeared between Kael’s chest and the distant world below.

“You chose to become memory.”

Kael nodded slowly.

“I remember.”

“But memories need someone to remember them.”

Kael looked at the thread.

“Mara.”

“Yes.”

“Lyra.”

“Yes.”

“Azeron.”

“Yes.”

The Keeper became serious.

“But another memory has awakened.”

### The Child Beneath the Tree

Back in the Whispering Forest, Lucis walked around the silver tree.

Lyra followed cautiously.

“You said the first Kael.”

Lucis nodded.

“The name Kael wasn’t the first name Father had.”

“What was it?”

Lucis smiled sadly.

“He forgot.”

“Forgot his own name?”

“He gave it away.”

Lyra stared.

“Why would anyone do that?”

Lucis touched the tree.

“When someone carries every possibility, names become chains.”

Golden light flowed through the branches.

Hundreds of names appeared on the bark.

Kael.

Azeron.

Mara.

Lyra.

Silence.

Orion.

Then one name glowed brighter than the rest.

Lucien.

Lyra’s eyes widened.

“Lucien?”

Lucis nodded.

“The first name of the first king.”

“The first wolf?”

“The first child.”

Lyra whispered,

“So Kael’s original name…”

“Was Lucien.”

The forest trembled.

A howl echoed somewhere in the distance.

Lucis looked toward the mountains.

“He found us.”

### The Hunter in the Dark

A shadow moved between the trees.

Not walking.

Gliding.

Its eyes burned crimson.

Its body was wrapped in black mist.

Lyra instinctively summoned golden light.

Lucis stepped in front of her.

“No.”

“What is that?”

“The Hunter.”

The creature emerged.

It wore armor made from bones.

Its face was hidden behind a wolf-shaped mask.

In one hand it carried a spear carved from black crystal.

It spoke with a hollow voice.

“I found the Child of the Black Moon.”

Lyra frowned.

“Who?”

The Hunter pointed directly at Lucis.

“The Beginning.”

Lucis sighed.

“I hoped we’d have more time.”

The Hunter raised its spear.

“Time ended when the Blood Moon disappeared.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“You’ll have to go through me.”

The Hunter laughed.

“You are possibility.”

It looked at Lucis.

“He is origin.”

Then its crimson eyes turned toward Lyra.

“And origin must die before possibility grows.”

It attacked.

### The First Battle Without Kael

Lyra had never fought without Kael beside her.

Fear rushed through her.

But she remembered his words.

> “Fear doesn’t make you weak.

Choose anyway.”

Golden flames erupted around her hands.

She blocked the Hunter’s spear.

The impact shattered stones beneath her feet.

Lucis touched the silver tree.

Roots exploded from the earth, wrapping around the Hunter.

For a moment, it was trapped.

Lyra attacked.

A blade of golden light cut through the darkness.

The Hunter stepped aside effortlessly.

“So young.”

It struck again.

Lyra barely avoided the blow.

A deep cut appeared across her shoulder.

She gasped.

Blood hit the ground.

The black earth immediately absorbed it.

The Hunter smiled.

“Moon-Born blood.”

The forest began changing.

The silver tree darkened.

Lucis looked horrified.

“No…”

“What?”

“It can follow your blood.”

The Hunter raised the spear again.

“Every drop brings the Black Moon closer.”

### The Return of the Howl

At the palace, every wolf suddenly lifted its head.

A howl echoed across the kingdom.

The First Wolf froze.

“That’s Kael.”

Mara ran outside.

“Where?”

The howl came again.

Closer.

Stronger.

Filled with pain.

Azeron looked toward the Whispering Forest.

“Lyra.”

Without another word, they ran.

### The Wolf Made of Starlight

As the Hunter prepared to strike Lyra again, the forest exploded with silver wind.

A massive wolf landed between them.

Its fur shimmered like a night sky full of stars.

Its eyes were gold.

The Hunter stepped backward.

“Impossible.”

The wolf growled.

Lyra stared in disbelief.

“Father?”

The wolf didn’t answer.

But she knew.

She felt the same warmth she had always felt when Kael held her hand.

The Hunter threw its spear.

The starlight wolf caught it in its jaws.

The spear shattered.

The Hunter hissed.

“You should not exist.”

The wolf’s body began glowing brighter.

A familiar voice echoed inside Lyra’s heart.

Protect the beginning.

Tears filled her eyes.

“It is you.”

The wolf looked at her.

Then charged.

The Hunter vanished into black mist before the wolf reached it.

Only its voice remained.

“This is only the first hunt.”

The darkness disappeared.

The forest became quiet once more.

The starlight wolf turned toward Lucis.

The little boy smiled.

“You found your way back.”

The wolf lowered its head.

Lucis touched its forehead.

Golden symbols appeared across the wolf’s fur.

For one heartbeat, Kael’s human face appeared inside the light.

“Mara…”

The vision vanished.

The wolf dissolved into thousands of stars that floated into the sky.

Mara arrived seconds later with Azeron and the First Wolf.

She found Lyra kneeling beneath the silver tree, crying.

“What happened?”

Lyra looked up.

“He came.”

Mara’s breath caught.

“Kael?”

Lyra nodded.

“He saved us.”

Mara looked toward the empty sky, hope returning to her eyes for the first time.

But Lucis looked far beyond the forest.

His expression was filled with fear.

Azeron noticed.

“What is it?”

Lucis whispered,

“The Hunter wasn’t trying to kill me.”

Everyone looked at him.

“It was marking this world.”

The ground shook.

Far beyond the mountains, a black moon slowly rose over the horizon.

And this time— it was not alone.

Three black moons climbed into the sky together.

The First Wolf whispered a name no one had heard before.

“The Eclipse Pack.”

And every wolf in the kingdom instinctively bowed its head in fear.
