Just as Wen Qiao’s legs started to go numb from squatting, she finally heard a man’s calm, emotionless voice from above.

“Get on.”

Wen Qiao froze for a moment, then realized what he had said, her eyes curving into a smile.Full novel: Wrong Flirting: The Cannon-Fodder Female Supporting Character in a 1970s Novel Mistakenly Identifies the Male Lead — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The man was half-squatting in front of her.

Wen Qiao immediately leaned against his broad back, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.

A triumphant smile appeared at the corner of her lips.

Lu Yanchen lifted Wen Qiao effortlessly, showing no sign of strain.

The mountain path was rough, and her weight pressed slightly on his back, yet he remained upright and composed, stepping steadily.

His composed gait carried a refined, model-like aura.

Wen Qiao’s soft, fair arms hugged his neck, and she leaned close to his ear.

In a gentle voice, she asked,

“Am I heavy?”

Lu Yanchen remained silent.

Her light breaths brushed against the back of his neck, tickling his ears.

Seeing that he didn’t respond, Wen Qiao rested her chin on his shoulder. Her hair swayed with the bumps of the path, brushing past his ears and then grazing the tip of his nose.

A faint scent of jasmine filled his nostrils.

She deliberately leaned against his side neck, softly exhaling.

“Ah, your heartbeat’s so fast!”

Lu Yanchen paused for a moment, then continued walking as if nothing had happened.

Wen Qiao, undeterred, kept teasing him.

She mischievously leaned close to his ear, her lips almost touching his earlobe.

Playfully, she said,

“Your ears are red… could it be that your heart is racing… for me?”

Lu Yanchen’s body stiffened, his Adam’s apple moving slightly.

In a low voice, he warned,

“Don’t move around.”

Wen Qiao chuckled softly. Her soft chest pressed fully against his back, rising and falling with each of his steps.

Her lips brushed against his earlobe just enough to tease.

Feeling his muscles tense instantly, she pressed her knees lightly against his waist in triumph.

In a soft, teasing voice, she said,

“You’re so firm!”

Suddenly, Lu Yanchen pinched the inner side of her thigh, startling Wen Qiao into a soft gasp.

“If you don’t behave, get down and walk yourself.”

His expression was stern, his tone resolute, leaving no room for argument.

Seeing this, Wen Qiao pouted but was secretly amused.

She hadn’t even done much yet, and he was already struggling.

Although he didn’t turn his head, Wen Qiao noticed the warmth spreading across his neck.

She laughed softly—so innocent.

She relaxed against him, like melting cream, sweet and enticing.

“Walk slower…”

She lazily coaxed him, her fingers playing with the collar of his uniform.

Lu Yanchen sighed but slowed his pace, allowing her to snuggle against his back like a contented little kitten.

She pressed her soft cheek against his shoulder blade, warm and tender.

He gritted his teeth, silently reciting military regulations, trying to chase away the vivid images forming in his mind.

Lu Yanchen reminded himself: he was a soldier, merely helping a fellow revolutionary comrade. No other thoughts were permitted.

They continued along the muddy mountain path, step by uneven step.

After some time, they rounded a bend and saw Chen Ping with several soldiers rushing toward them.

“It’s the regiment commander!”

“Commander, are you alright?”

“Commander, you’re not hurt, are you?”

The footsteps quickened as everyone surrounded Lu Yanchen, their voices full of concern.

But when they saw the woman on his back, they all fell silent.

The woman had her eyes closed, her delicate head resting on Lu Yanchen’s shoulder.

Even asleep, her features were striking.

Her long, black hair cascaded like a waterfall, with a few strands playfully sticking to his uniform, adding a touch of charm.

Wow. Where did the commander pick up such a little goddess?

Hearing the voices, Wen Qiao rubbed her eyes groggily.

His back was broad and warm, walking steadily while carrying her—so comfortable she had fallen asleep.

Seeing the soldiers in green staring at her, Wen Qiao smiled sweetly at them.

Their rough, weathered faces flushed red, eyes avoiding hers.

Chen Ping, usually the loudest, now stood silent, his dark face turning crimson from the ears downward.

He straightened instinctively, pressed his lips together, and subconsciously fiddled with the edges of his uniform.

They all stood there like burning iron rods, the air thick with awkward heat and tense silence.

Lu Yanchen frowned slightly at their reaction but said nothing, gently setting Wen Qiao down.

“Comrade Wen, up ahead is the Baiyun Mountain military farm. Go on inside yourself. I need to return to the military district immediately.”

He glanced at her slender ankles, hinting,

“After all this rest, your leg injury should be almost healed, right?”

Caught off guard, Wen Qiao’s face remained calm. She moved her right foot slightly and said with feigned seriousness,

“Yes, much better. Thank you, Comrade Lu.”

There were too many people around to say more, and she wasn’t in a rush.

Yesterday, he had appeared at Baiyun Mountain for an important mission. With the typhoon raging, the military district must be busy. She understood priorities.

Smiling, she invited him,

“Comrade Lu, thanks for your help today. Next time we meet, I’ll treat you to a meal.”

If he hadn’t grabbed that poisonous snake barehanded, she would’ve suffered even if her life hadn’t been at risk.

She saved his life, he saved hers.

The difference: she did it with calculation and purpose; he did it out of genuine instinct.

Lu Yanchen looked at her. Wen Qiao’s expression was sincere, her eyes clear, genuinely grateful for his help today.

His gaze lingered for a moment before he withdrew it.

“Military duties keep me busy. No time.”

No time? That was clearly an excuse—a polite refusal.

Wen Qiao reflected for a moment, then smiled brightly,

“No problem, then I’ll wait until you have time.”

She had patience, especially in teasing a man.

Once a woman decides to pursue a man, no wall is too high, no fortress too strong, not even God himself can stop her.

Was she facing a fortress of bronze and steel? Gunfire? God’s wrath?

None of it.

This was merely Lu Yanchen’s small, polite refusal.

No problem.

Wen Qiao firmly believed: there is no man she cannot tease, only a little goddess who doesn’t try hard enough.

She took a deep breath, adjusting her mindset.

Smiling, she bid him farewell, watching his figure gradually disappear at the end of the mountain path.

Although this book is about her roommate Shen Yueru entering the story,

whether Shen Yueru would really appear, Wen Qiao wasn’t sure.

She had no idea when exactly she might appear.

The original owner had only lived to Chapter Three.

Wen Qiao had only read up to Chapter Three before nearly fainting in frustration.

Naturally, she had no knowledge of what came after.
