“Bai Luo, what’s your home address?” Yu Youwei asked.

The man in the back seat crossed his legs and replied lazily, “It’s so late already. Even if I go home, I can’t get in—I don’t have the key. How about I stay at your place tonight? Is that convenient, Weiwei?”

Before Yu Youwei could answer, Su Yu immediately refused, “No way. We’ll find you a hotel. Tianhai City is huge—there are plenty of places to sleep. You’re a grown man, aren’t you ashamed to even say you want to stay at Weiwei’s house?”Full novel: You Chose Your White Moonlight, So Why Are You Crying When I Called Off the Proposal? — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Yu Youwei thought the same.

Bai Luo was her white moonlight, and under normal circumstances, she would have agreed to his request. But because of that text message, she had to go back to Jiang Yan’s place tonight. She had no choice but to disappoint Bai Luo.

“Sorry, Bai Luo, I still have something to take care of later. I’ll help you book a hotel room instead. My apologies.”

He was actually rejected. Bai Luo was a little surprised, but he quickly put on a tender expression. “It’s fine. I’m already happy that you came to pick me up. Let’s have dinner together another day to thank you for coming to the airport so late.”

“Okay.”

Sitting in the back seat, Bai Luo narrowed his eyes. Though he was displeased by Yu Youwei’s refusal, he still needed her resources.

He had heard while abroad that Yu Youwei had taken over the Yu family’s media company—Huanyu Media.

As an art major, his career direction after graduation was naturally the entertainment industry. His parents wanted him to become a pianist. He had the talent, but daily piano practice was exhausting. After going overseas, without anyone to supervise him, the glamorous nightlife was too tempting, and he quickly fell.

He now wanted to enter showbiz. With his looks and height, he was confident he could become a top idol. All he needed was a stepping stone—and a powerful backer.

And Yu Youwei was exactly the person he needed.

His gaze drifted toward the passenger seat. The full curves before him rose and fell gently with each breath. Bai Luo’s eyes darkened slightly. He hadn’t expected Yu Youwei’s best friend to be not only stunningly beautiful but also perfectly shaped.

…

After settling Bai Luo in a hotel, Su Yu still refused to go home, insisting on staying with Yu Youwei. But Yu Youwei had to meet Jiang Yan, and she couldn’t take Su Yu with her.

It took over ten minutes of coaxing and explaining before she finally convinced Su Yu to go home.

It was already 1:30 AM.

Rubbing her tired eyes, Yu Youwei forced herself to stay awake and drove toward Jiang Yan’s villa.

When she arrived, she entered the familiar gate code without hesitation.

The code was her birthday.

Back when the lock was installed, Jiang Yan had insisted on using her birthday as the password. She had found it cheesy, but since it was his house, she couldn’t just forbid it.

Now, looking back, Jiang Yan had actually been thoughtful. If it were any other code, she probably wouldn’t have remembered it.

She pressed the confirm key and waited for the lock to open.

[Beep—Incorrect password!]

Impossible.

Yu Youwei frowned in confusion and entered it again.

Still—

[Beep—Incorrect password!]

!!!

Her face stiffened.

In disbelief, she tried a third time. But this time, her hands trembled slightly without her realizing it.

[Beep—Incorrect password!]

[Password locked. Please try again in 30 minutes.]

Yu Youwei’s eyes widened in shock.

No… impossible… impossible!

Those three words echoed endlessly in her mind.

Her vision went black. Dizzy, she braced her trembling hands against the door to stop herself from collapsing. She was utterly exhausted, and her blood sugar had dropped.

Even though she didn’t want to believe it, a thought crept into her mind—Jiang Yan had changed the password.

He must have changed it today.

When he said they should break up, he had meant it.

Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down.

She was the eldest daughter of the Yu family, the CEO of Huanyu Media. She couldn’t panic over something as trivial as a breakup.

Pulling out her phone, she opened WeChat and sent a message to Jiang Yan.

“I’m at your door. Come open it.”

A red exclamation mark immediately appeared.

[The other party has enabled friend verification. You are not friends yet. Please send a friend request first.]

Jiang Yan had blocked her—not only breaking up but deleting her completely.

Yu Youwei froze.

Several vengeful thoughts crossed her mind—ways to make Jiang Yan regret it. But after standing stiffly in place for ten minutes, she still didn’t act on any of them.

She wasn’t some immature college girl anymore. Those impulsive actions might feel satisfying, but they were childish. They were adults now—she had to handle this maturely.

Finally, she closed her eyes and exhaled deeply.

Her emotions were mixed—sorrow, frustration, bitterness. Her chest felt heavy, her eyes stung.

Jiang Yan had loved her so much once. She remembered how, when she casually mentioned wanting to try the famous raw toast from a bakery in Xinhai City, he immediately dropped everything—skipping a meeting, driving three hours, and standing in line for two—just so she could have it fresh.

But she had never told him the truth—that she’d gone there before with Bai Luo. That she’d craved the bread not for its taste but because it reminded her of Bai Luo.

And now Jiang Yan wanted to break up with her… all because she missed his birthday.

Yu Youwei couldn’t believe he could just let go so easily. Five years of love couldn’t be erased with a single word.

…

On the second floor of the villa, behind the dark floor-to-ceiling windows, the curtains parted slightly.

Jiang Yan stood by the window, looking down coldly at her unsteady figure outside.

He found it laughable.

Usually, when he called her over, she acted reluctant and never stayed the night. Yet now, in the middle of the night, she had come running to his house.

Heh. He had already decided to let her and her white moonlight be together. He had let go—and now she came back.

Who was she performing this pitiful act for? How pathetic.

Lowering his gaze, Jiang Yan turned away, closed the curtains, and went back to the bedroom.

He had been lightly asleep but woke up when the door alarm rang. Looking down earlier, he had seen the entire scene.

After a glance, he lost all interest.

Once upon a time, he couldn’t bear to see her sad. The slightest frown and he would rush to comfort her.

But awakening from love really did happen in an instant.

In love, the one who gives in first always loses.

At the villa gate, Yu Youwei held her phone. Her trembling fingers hovered over the screen, trying several times but never pressing the call button.

She knew that no matter how angry Jiang Yan was, he wouldn’t block her number.

Forget it. Once tonight passed and his mood calmed, he would naturally add her back.

After all, this time it really was her fault.

Tomorrow, when he adds her back, she’ll apologize, coax him a little, and explain things clearly.

And if he thought he could use this to control her, he was dreaming.

He had invested five years of his life—he wouldn’t give up so easily.

Besides, Jiang Yan couldn’t live without her. And as the heiress of the Yu family, she could have any man she wanted.

With that thought, dragging her weary body, Yu Youwei turned and left the villa.
