Zheng Chuan quickly dodged as a kidnapper from the back crawled out, swinging a knife at him. He slammed his baseball bat down on the blade, knocking it out of the man’s hand, then struck again, smashing the kidnapper’s arm.

Crack!

A scream rang out as the man’s arm broke.Full novel: You Were Told To Go Undercover, And You Married The Daughter Of A Mafia Boss? — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“You kidnapped my wife. I’ll kill you,” Zheng Chuan growled, swinging his bat with relentless force, every hit landing solidly. Only when the man was on the verge of death did he drop the bat, climb into the van, and pull Shen Li out.

With trembling hands, he opened the sack and found that aside from a light wound on her forehead, Shen Li was mostly unharmed. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.

He stared at Shen Li, tears falling. Her voice and face were still vivid in his memory, yet now they had met again as people from two lifetimes.

Right now, Shen Li was twenty years old—beautiful and in her prime.

Only when he heard muffled sounds from her mouth did Zheng Chuan remember that her mouth was still stuffed.

He hurriedly removed the cloth and untied her.

“Who are you? What are you trying to do?” Shen Li was terrified, breathing heavily, her face filled with fear.

“I… I’m Zheng Chuan. I saw you being kidnapped at the bar, so I rushed over to save you,” Zheng Chuan explained while untying her. “Are you okay?”

Shen Li shook her head. The darkness around them made her feel uneasy.

“Don’t be scared. I’ve taken care of them. I’ll take you home,” Zheng Chuan said gently, heart aching at the sight of her frightened expression.

Though her father-in-law was involved with the underworld gang, her mother came from a scholarly family. Shen Li had inherited her mother’s gentle and virtuous nature.

In his previous life, he had focused solely on completing missions and getting promoted, ignoring the person who mattered most beside him.

This time, he was going to love her properly and make up for all he’d neglected.

Shen Li nodded slightly, but as she moved, she winced in pain from her arm.

“What’s wrong? You’re hurt?” Zheng Chuan was startled. He quickly helped her sit. “Let me take a look.”

Her sleeve was torn, and her arm had a deep cut, bleeding profusely.

“I’ll bandage it for you.” Zheng Chuan rushed to the car but couldn’t find a first aid kit. He tore a piece of cloth from his jacket with a loud rip and used it as a bandage.

Shen Li stared at Zheng Chuan.

He was carefully bandaging her wound, looking so focused and gentle. He even blew softly on the torn sleeve, afraid it might hurt her.

Then, using the cloth like a bandage, he gently wrapped it up.

“Your name is Zheng Chuan?” Shen Li asked.

“Yes,” Zheng Chuan nodded.

“I’m Shen Li. Thank you for saving me,” she said thoughtfully. “Leave your number. I’ll treat you to a meal and thank you properly.”

“Sure.” As he finished wrapping up her arm, he reminded her, “Go to the hospital later to disinfect and bandage it properly. Don’t eat spicy food, don’t drink alcohol.”

“The most important thing is—don’t let it touch water.”

Shen Li rested her chin on her hand, listening carefully.

After a long list of instructions, Zheng Chuan asked, “Got it?”

“Huh? Y-yeah, I got it,” Shen Li snapped out of her daze and nodded quickly.

“Then tell me—what do you need to pay attention to?” Zheng Chuan asked with a smile in his eyes.

He’d lived with her for ten years—of course he knew her well. The way she just acted like a lovestruck fool meant she probably didn’t hear a word.

Well, to be fair, ten years ago he really was quite handsome.

Where’s a mirror? I want to take a look at my handsome self from ten years ago.

“Um… sleep early and wake up early… eat less sweets…” Even her own voice faded at the end.

Seeing how cute she looked, Zheng Chuan chuckled, “Alright, I’ll text you later. Let’s head back first.”

Blushing, Shen Li nodded softly.

Zheng Chuan put his jacket over her shoulders and shivered. Damn, it was pretty cold tonight.

They were now beneath the highway. Zheng Chuan helped her through the darkness, climbing back up step by step.

Just as he was about to lift the motorcycle, a loud roar came from behind—it was the biker gang chasing them down.

“That little bastard’s up ahead! Surround him! Damn it, speeding like you’re flying a plane or something?” Afei shouted, leading his men forward.

As the leader of the biker gang, having his ride stolen? How could he show his face again?

The more Afei thought about it, the angrier he got. More and more of his gang had arrived, over ten motorcycles roaring as they circled the pair.

Snap! A powerful spotlight lit up the road. Afei wore a biker jacket, showing off a stunt on his motorcycle before stopping steadily in front of Zheng Chuan.

Zheng Chuan shielded Shen Li behind him, gripping the baseball bat, eyeing Afei cautiously.

“Why’d you stop running, huh? Thought you were so tough.” Afei took off his helmet and spat.

“Sorry, my friend was in danger just now, so I borrowed your bike,” Zheng Chuan said. “How about this—I’ll treat your brothers to drinks as an apology.”

“Shut the hell up. You kicked me off my bike. You call that borrowing?” Afei’s fury rose. “And you dared to steal the car of the ‘God of Bikes’ from Liupan Ridge? Do you know what that motorcycle means to me? It’s my warhorse, my armor, my battle robe.”

“I’m really sorry.” Zheng Chuan pressed his hands together, sincerely apologizing.

“Brother Fei, don’t waste time talking to this guy. If we don’t break both his legs today, who will take us seriously anymore?” a slicked-back punk shouted.

“You stole my bike, so I break your legs. Fair deal, right?” Afei tilted his head, looking at Zheng Chuan.

“Brother, there’s no need to go that far,” Zheng Chuan gripped the bat tighter.

“No need? If I don’t break your legs today, how am I supposed to face anyone again?” Afei slapped his own face angrily. “Brothers, break his legs!”

“Got it, Brother Fei!” the gang got off their motorcycles and grabbed the tools they brought along.

Zheng Chuan frowned. Though he had top scores at the police academy—champion in combat, wrestling, and shooting—facing over ten people alone was still a tall order.

But things had already escalated. He had no choice but to fight.

“Stop!” Shen Li suddenly spoke.

Her voice trembled with fear. “My dad is on his way. Don’t do anything stupid.”

“Oh? Who’s your dad?” Afei tilted his head at Shen Li, then his eyes lit up. “Hey, she’s pretty cute.”

“I’m warning you. If you touch us, my dad won’t let you off,” Shen Li braved her fear.

“Haha, trying to threaten Brother Fei? Do you know who he rolls with?” one of the blond gang members laughed. “You’ll be scared to death when you find out.”

“Ever heard of Boss Shen? The top guy in the south of the city—Shen Nan. Your dad? Who are you trying to scare?”

“You… you know my dad?” Shen Li’s eyes lit up. “My dad is Shen Nan.”
