The sleepless city late at night.

Shao Kunye walked through the crowded corridor filled with people and arrived at a private room. When he pushed open the door, a man in a tailored suit and gold-rimmed glasses was sitting on the sofa, surrounded by beautiful women.

The man greeted him with a smile, his hand still roaming restlessly over the waist of the woman beside him.

Shao Kunye sat down on the sofa opposite him. “President Chen really knows how to enjoy himself.”

On the way back earlier, Shao Kunye had received a call from Chen Jinpeng saying he had a business deal to discuss, so they had temporarily changed direction and come to the neighboring city.

Chen Jinpeng smiled slightly and slapped the woman on his lap. “Go. Go serve Young Master Shao.”

The woman had already been stirred when she saw Shao Kunye’s handsome face. Hearing Chen Jinpeng say that, she eagerly walked over and sat beside him.

The air carried a sweet perfume scent coming from her.

It wasn’t unpleasant, and it even felt somewhat familiar.

Shao Kunye thought for a moment. It seemed that little liar had the same scent on her body.

Except hers smelled like clean and refreshing baby powder.

The woman poured a glass of alcohol and held it to Shao Kunye’s lips, saying flatteringly, “Young Master Shao, please have a drink.”

She deliberately leaned close, almost pressing her whole body against him. The perfume mixed with baby-powder scent became even stronger.

Completely mismatched.

Those four words suddenly appeared in Shao Kunye’s mind. He took the glass from her hand and casually passed it to Han Tao beside him.

“You drink it.”

Han Tao paused, then said, “Thank you, Young Master Shao,” and accepted the glass.

The woman showed a wronged expression but didn’t dare say anything.

Chen Jinpeng laughed and pulled the woman back into his arms. “Young Master Shao really doesn’t show any tenderness toward women.”

But it wasn’t surprising. Shao Kunye had seen all kinds of beautiful women. Someone like this was no different from pork left overnight on a butcher’s stall.

Chen Jinpeng lifted the woman’s chin. “Let big brother take care of you instead.”

“President Chen…”

The woman shyly buried her head in Chen Jinpeng’s shoulder, but her eyes kept drifting toward Shao Kunye.

That man was simply too handsome. Just sitting there, he radiated hormones.

If she could sleep with him once, it would probably feel amazing.

He looked like the type who was very good in bed.

Shao Kunye lazily leaned back on the sofa, casually playing with a cigarette between his fingers. “You said you have a batch of goods you want me to resell. What’s that about?”

Chen Jinpeng didn’t answer immediately. He lifted his chin, and the women beside him tactfully left the room.

Once only the three of them remained in the private room, Chen Jinpeng finally spoke about business.

“I got a batch of drought-resistant wheat genes from a gene bank somewhere in the Arctic. I want you to help me resell them.”

Shao Kunye controlled a fleet of smuggling ships specializing in biological cold-chain transport across countries. He also had clients and channels for laundering goods. Whenever someone had goods that couldn’t be moved through normal routes, they would seek Shao Kunye’s help.

Shao Kunye showed rare interest. “Isn’t that place heavily guarded? How did you get the goods?”

Chen Jinpeng smiled awkwardly. “That’s not convenient for me to tell Young Master Shao.”

Shao Kunye didn’t pursue the matter further. He only cared about reselling the goods and collecting the money. As for where the goods came from, he had no interest.

“No problem helping you resell them. For the first deal, I take seventy percent of the profit.”

Chen Jinpeng’s expression changed slightly when he heard the number. “Isn’t that a bit too high?”

“High risk, high cut. If you’re unwilling, you can find someone else.”

Chen Jinpeng’s expression turned unpleasant.

Shao Kunye controlled seventy percent of the world’s illegal trade channels. Otherwise, Chen Jinpeng wouldn’t need to cooperate with him.

Shao Kunye seemed a little impatient. “Do you need time to go back and think about it, President Chen?”

Chen Jinpeng hardened his resolve. “Fine. Seventy percent it is. But can we renegotiate the later deals?”

Shao Kunye nodded slightly. “Later deals will be fifty-fifty.”

Since he would be investing effort and resources, he naturally intended to maintain a long-term profit relationship.

This condition was still acceptable. Although he would earn less, it was better than not being able to sell the goods at all.

Chen Jinpeng nodded. “Alright. We’ll do it your way.”

At that moment, a man pushed the door open and walked in, whispering something into Chen Jinpeng’s ear.

Shao Kunye saw Chen Jinpeng’s eyes suddenly light up.

“He suddenly figured it out and sent her over?”

“President Jiang has one request. He wants you to help interrogate her for the thing they want.”

Perhaps because Shao Kunye was present, the man whispered a few more words in Chen Jinpeng’s ear.

Chen Jinpeng gave a disdainful smile. “Just that? Tell them I agree.”

He finished the alcohol in his glass in one gulp and smiled meaningfully. “Young Master Shao, I have some business to handle. I’ll take my leave first.”

Shao Kunye said casually, “Got another good item?”

Chen Jinpeng didn’t seem embarrassed at all. Instead, he said enthusiastically, “Young Master Shao, you might not know this, but I’ve had my eye on this woman for a long time. Her family wouldn’t agree before, but now they’ve finally come to their senses.”

What kind of respectable family would send their daughter to be played with by men?

Chen Jinpeng said generously, “If Young Master Shao is interested, why not join me?”

Shao Kunye had no interest in sharing women with others. “No need. President Chen can enjoy himself.”

Chen Jinpeng had only mentioned it casually anyway. He hadn’t even played with her yet—how could he possibly give her to someone else?

Just from a few words of conversation, a noticeable outline had already formed in Chen Jinpeng’s pants.

Anyone who didn’t know better might think he had drunk something else instead of alcohol.

Watching Chen Jinpeng leave in a hurry, Han Tao asked the man on the sofa, “Young Master Shao, will you rest here tonight, or head back overnight?”

If Chen Jinpeng hadn’t suddenly contacted them, they would already be back in West Coast City by now.

Shao Kunye spoke lazily. “Book a room here. We’ll leave tomorrow.”

“Yes.”

The room was quickly arranged. When Shao Kunye and Han Tao went upstairs, they happened to see Chen Jinpeng entering the room next door.

When the door opened and closed, dark red lighting spilled out from the crack, and various tools could be seen arranged inside the room.

It was a themed pleasure room.

Chen Jinpeng was notorious for having strange habits in bed. Women sent to his bed usually ended up either dead or crippled—none ever came out unharmed.

No one knew which unlucky person it would be tonight.

Shao Kunye walked toward his room. “How’s the soundproofing here?”

Han Tao replied, “The boss said even dismembering a body wouldn’t be heard.”

That sounded good enough.

Satisfied, Shao Kunye entered the room.

Half an hour later, after finishing his shower, Shao Kunye came out onto the balcony to smoke. One hand rested on the railing. His upper body was bare, with only a towel wrapped around his waist, revealing firm, powerful muscles in the night air.

Just then, he heard the crisp sound of something shattering from the room next door, followed by Chen Jinpeng’s cursing.

It seemed the woman wasn’t cooperating very well.

Soon after, several dull thuds sounded as something collided with cabinets and walls. Annoyed by the noise, Shao Kunye threw the cigarette to the ground and crushed it under his foot before turning to go back inside.

At the same time, a figure staggered out onto the balcony from the neighboring room.

“N-no… please…”

“Don’t touch me…”

The fearful and helpless voice sounded somewhat familiar.

Shao Kunye paused and turned his head slightly. He saw a slender figure forced into the corner of the balcony, clothes disheveled, face filled with panic. Those watery eyes looked exactly like a frightened little animal.

Shao Kunye raised an eyebrow.

He hadn’t expected it to be an old acquaintance.

Wen Xi had been cornered with nowhere to retreat. Her back hit the cold wall, and behind her was the night view from the eighth floor.

Just as Wen Xi’s legs weakened from the terrifying height beneath her feet, she lifted her head and happened to meet Shao Kunye’s gaze from the neighboring balcony.

Then Shao Kunye saw Wen Xi’s watery eyes widen, like a small animal driven into a desperate situation suddenly grabbing onto driftwood in a raging current.

Unfortunately, Shao Kunye was not someone who meddled in other people’s affairs.

Especially not someone who had once schemed against him.

Shao Kunye withdrew his gaze and turned to leave. Wen Xi’s heart sank instantly. Before she could think, her body reacted faster than her mind, and she blurted out in panic—

“H-husband!”
