“My name is Louis Rex, 23 years old.
I live on the second floor of a coffee shop on Six Points Street.
I’m unmarried.”
“I just graduated from the police academy and haven’t landed a permanent position yet.
I usually get home by eight at the latest.”
“I don’t smoke, and I only drink a little.
I go to bed at eleven, making sure I get a full eight hours of sleep.
Before bed, I drink a cup of hot milk, do twenty minutes of stretching, and then sleep soundly until morning.”
“I wake up the next day feeling refreshed, like a baby with zero fatigue or stress.
My latest health checkup also came back showing I’m in perfect condition.”
Inside an interview room at the New Eridu Public Security Bureau, a young man with black spiky hair was speaking eloquently to the interviewers.
His name was Louis Rex.
He was an outsider who had arrived in this strange world through an accident.
For certain special reasons, he had chosen to apply at the Public Security Bureau to become a Public Security Officer.
That was Louis’s self-introduction.
Actually, he hadn’t planned to say all that.
He originally wanted to appear more serious and professional to secure this ironclad job.
But the original interviewer had an emergency, so two senior officers showed up instead.
Louis had entered the interview room first.
While he sat waiting in the chair, two graceful figures pushed open the door.
One was a petite girl whom he subconsciously overlooked.
His eyes immediately locked onto the other woman standing behind her.
That single glance nearly made Louis’s nose bleed.
The Public Security Bureau had several uniform styles.
Some were specially designed for combat against Ethereals, including those super tight tactical pants.
They were so form-fitting they left almost nothing to the imagination, especially around the hips and below.
On most people they looked normal.
But on the female officer in front of him…
it was on another level.
Her long, shapely legs led up to an incredibly full and perky backside.
The way it curved and strained against the tight fabric created an overwhelming visual impact.
Her slender waist made the contrast even more striking.
Louis almost blacked out from the sight.
Every step she took caused her chest to sway noticeably.
He genuinely wondered how that narrow waist could support such a figure.
Then again, this world already had people walking around with animal tails and ears, so maybe he shouldn’t overthink it.
“The original interviewer’s wife suddenly went into labor, so Senior Qingyi and I will be conducting the interview today.”
After the two female officers sat down, the tall beauty with black hair spoke first.
She had orange highlights mixed into her hair, tied back in a practical yet fluffy ponytail that resembled a fox tail.
Louis recognized her immediately.
This was Zhu Yuan, the Best Young Public Security Officer of the year.
She had risen through the ranks with flying colors and was already a well-known figure in the Bureau.
She was even the same age as him.
He never expected Zhu Yuan herself would be his interviewer.
She looked far more stunning in person than in any photo.
As a young man in his prime, it was impossible for him not to feel something.
If he didn’t, that would honestly be more concerning.
Facing such a beautiful senior officer, Louis completely forgot every serious line he had prepared.
Instead, those famous peaceful-life lines spilled out naturally.
The two women in front of him showed clear surprise.
“Senior Qingyi, is this okay?”
Even though Zhu Yuan was decisive when dealing with criminals, she still showed the slight awkwardness and inexperience of a girl her age in normal situations.
She often turned to her seniors for guidance.
The girl called Senior Qingyi was much shorter than Zhu Yuan and had a petite build.
Her dark green hair was styled in twin tails, giving her a cute appearance.
However, the mechanical lines visible on her thighs made it clear she wasn’t fully human.
“Isn’t this self-introduction pretty good?” Qingyi said calmly.
“He covered everything important and even shared his daily routine.
Seems like a solid young man.”
“Indeed.
Then I’ll continue with the questions.”
Zhu Yuan nodded.
Her fluffy ponytail swayed gently with the motion.
Her bright orange eyes focused on Louis as the interview went on.
“You’re applying for the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team in the combat division.
I have to warn you… inside the Hollow, we fight Ethereals.
Do you understand what a single mistake could mean?”
Zhu Yuan’s expression turned serious.
“Death.”
Louis nodded calmly in response.
“Even so, are you still willing to join?
This department has the highest mortality rate.”
Zhu Yuan pressed on.
An interview was also a test of resolve.
If he showed any hesitation, it would be understandable.
This job meant risking your life every time you stepped into a Hollow.
Louis stood up from his seat.
He raised his right hand and gave Zhu Yuan a thumbs-up.
“Officer Zhu Yuan, please don’t underestimate a man’s determination.
Why did I join the police academy?
To protect innocent people, of course.
Without the sacrifices made by Public Security Officers, civilians like us couldn’t enjoy peaceful lives.
In this world, someone has to stand in the gap.
You can do it.
Senior Qingyi can do it.
So why can’t I?”
Louis spoke with genuine passion.
Half of it came from the heart.
The other half had a bit of personal motive mixed in.
But even then, he believed his cause was just.
As long as you fought Ethereals, that was justice.
“My heart and my actions are as clear as a mirror.
All I do is for justice.”
Both Qingyi and Zhu Yuan were visibly moved by the powerful line.
“Oh my, it’s been a while since I’ve seen such an energetic young man,” Qingyi said with a kind smile.
“The last few recruits nearly wet themselves just hearing they’d have to enter Hollows.
I hope you’re not all talk.”
“Of course not,” Louis replied seriously.
“Let me check… your file says your specialty isn’t offense, agility, or intelligence.
It’s endurance?”
Zhu Yuan looked down at his records, a hint of confusion on her face.
“That’s right.
At the academy, they called me the Legendary Tank King.
I wear the heaviest gear, take the hardest hits, and my survival skills are maxed out.”
Louis sat back down and proudly patted his chest with solid thumps.
“Is that so?”
Zhu Yuan looked slightly dazed for a moment before recovering.
The team did need sturdy defenders.
Still, it meant he would be standing on the front lines taking the brunt of the attacks.
“Pfft… hahahaha!” Qingyi suddenly burst out laughing.
“Zhu Yuan, this kid is hilarious!
He’s in.
I want to see just how good of a tank he really is.”
As she laughed, she stamped his file, officially passing him.
“Alright then.
You’ve passed the interview.
You can familiarize yourself with the Bureau today and start work tomorrow.”
Zhu Yuan nodded.
She had no objections.
“Yes, Officer!”
Louis gave both women a sharp salute with a big smile.
They returned the salute, gathered their things, and left the room.
“Little Zhu Yuan, did you catch the way he was looking at you earlier?”
Back in the Special Response Team office, Qingyi nudged Zhu Yuan’s full behind with her elbow.
Being so petite, that was the highest she could reach comfortably.
“What gaze?” Zhu Yuan asked, genuinely confused.
She didn’t think anything of the casual physical contact from another woman.
“That look he gave you.
It was a man looking at a woman,” Qingyi said meaningfully.
“I am a woman, and his file clearly states ‘male.’ Is there a problem?”
Zhu Yuan tilted her head, pulled out Louis’s file again, and stared at it in confusion.
Qingyi could only sigh and spread her hands helplessly.
Some things couldn’t be taught.
“Senior Qingyi, you always speak in riddles,” Zhu Yuan grumbled lightly.
Meanwhile, back in the interview room, Louis walked over to the window and looked down at the street below.
A satisfied grin spread across his face as he clenched his fist and pressed it against his chest.
“Hell yeah.
I’ve finally gotten in.”
A true man knows what he must do and what he must not.
Everything depends on a single thought.
I won’t waste this power I’ve been given.
A faint red afterimage flashed past the window outside.
A small figure shimmering with metallic red light seemed to respond to his words.
