“Husband, why aren’t you saying anything?”

Huo Chengxuan did not understand why Gu Yunsheng could call him that so naturally. Even before this, she had never been so affectionate.

Gu Yunsheng, however, had no idea what Huo Chengxuan was thinking.Full novel: 1970s: The Charming Pregnant Beauty Tames the Bigshot — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She only knew one thing.

She did not want to die.

Besides, in the original novel, the Huo Family was only sent to the countryside, not officially exiled.

As long as she did not stir up trouble, their situation would not be worse than what happened in the book. It would only become better.

Gu Yunsheng raised her head and looked at the man before her.

His eyebrows were long and elegant like distant mountains brushed with ink. His eyes were deep and unfathomable. His nose bridge was straight and refined like jade. His thin lips held a faint rosy tint, and his jawline was sharp and perfectly defined.

Only now did she notice the small mole near the left side of his nose, which added a hint of alluring charm to his appearance.

With such looks, the original owner had truly been insatiable.

Gu Yunsheng grabbed his arm and gently shook it, pouting as she looked at him.

Huo Chengxuan withdrew his gaze. Just when she thought he would remain silent again, he finally spoke in a low and magnetic voice.

“Alright. But before the day we leave, you can change your mind at any time.”

He knew exactly how delicate Gu Yunsheng was, so he gave her the chance to back out whenever she wanted.

“I won’t. I definitely won’t regret it,” Gu Yunsheng said firmly.

Was he joking?

There was no way she would regret it.

As long as she stayed by Huo Chengxuan’s side, with a baby in her belly, she could live comfortably. Why would she stay alone in the city and suffer?

Besides, Huo Chengxuan was this handsome.

Seeing how determined she looked, Huo Chengxuan’s fist at his side tightened again.

He told himself that for the sake of the child in her belly, he was willing to believe her one more time.

“Are you still hungry?” he asked in a low voice, recalling how she had eaten earlier.

Gu Yunsheng nodded.

Huo Chengxuan’s gaze softened a little.

“Let’s go.”

After saying that, he turned and opened the door.

He had only taken a couple of steps when he realized Gu Yunsheng had not followed. He turned his head to look at her.

“What’s wrong? Weren’t you hungry?”

Gu Yunsheng frowned slightly.

She was hungry, but the food cooked by Huo’s mother was truly hard to describe.

Huo Chengxuan noticed the slight wrinkle between her brows and remembered how picky she was.

“What do you want to eat? I’ll go buy it.”

“No need. If you want good food, you should cook it yourself.”

Gu Yunsheng shook her head, reached out, and took his hand.

“Let’s go.”

“Hm?”

Huo Chengxuan even thought he had misheard. It was not until they reached downstairs that he fully processed what had happened.

Meanwhile, the people at the dining table downstairs were absentmindedly eating.

When they heard footsteps on the stairs, they all looked up.

After witnessing him carrying her downstairs earlier, seeing the two of them walk down hand in hand did not shock them as much.

But Wan’er was an exception.

Her eyes widened in disbelief.

“Mom, am I seeing things? That shameless woman is actually holding my brother’s hand!”

Huo’s mother glared at her after hearing those words and scolded her.

“How can you talk like that? That’s your sister-in-law.”

After scolding her daughter, she turned back to look at the couple with a gentle smile.

Seeing the young couple like this clearly meant they had reconciled.

That also meant what her daughter-in-law said earlier must be true. The Huo Family would have a descendant.

Originally, with the family about to be sent to the countryside, their future looked uncertain.

Now that their daughter-in-law was pregnant and still willing to follow them without complaint, the whole family suddenly felt hopeful again.

Wan’er snorted.

Gu Yunsheng was not her sister-in-law.

To Wan’er, Gu Yunsheng was nothing but trouble.

She instinctively wanted to say something more, but after seeing the expressions on her parents’ faces, she swallowed the words back down.

When Gu Yunsheng came downstairs, she looked radiant with happiness, and even Huo Chengxuan’s cold aura seemed softer.

Huo’s mother and Huo Zhenguo were genuinely happy.

“Wan’er, why are you still sitting there? Go bring the porridge from the kitchen. Your sister-in-law is still hungry.”

Before Wan’er could refuse, Gu Yunsheng spoke first.

“Mom, you all keep eating. I already had a bowl of porridge earlier, so I’m not very hungry.”

Wan’er glared at her and said irritably,

“Hmph. Not hungry? I think you just don’t like Mom’s cooking.”

Huo’s mother looked embarrassed and immediately slapped Wan’er lightly.

“Be quiet!”

Gu Yunsheng only smiled and walked straight toward the kitchen. Huo Chengxuan followed behind her, worried.

The three people left in the living room looked at each other in confusion.

After entering the kitchen, Gu Yunsheng glanced around.

She had to admit that the Huo Family truly was not an ordinary household.

Even though they were about to be sent to the countryside during this era of material shortages, the kitchen still had plenty of ingredients.

Huo Chengxuan walked over to stand beside her.

“There’s still money at home. If you want something to eat, I’ll go buy it.”

“We’re about to go to the countryside and we still need to raise a child. We should save money,” Gu Yunsheng said.

In this era, most dishes were cooked with a lot of oil and heavy seasoning. They simply did not meet her standards for good food.

It would be better if she cooked herself.

Her parents had once run a farm. After they passed away in an accident, she inherited it. At first, the farm lost so much money that she nearly sold it.

Later, when social media platforms started booming, she began livestreaming.

The first thing she streamed was cooking, partly because she loved eating good food.

Thinking about the farm she once had made Gu Yunsheng’s heart ache.

In novels, transmigrated characters usually had some kind of golden finger ability.

But she had nothing.

Gu Yunsheng sighed inwardly.

Sure enough, a cannon fodder character was still just cannon fodder.

When she saw shrimp and meat in the kitchen, an idea quickly formed.

“Huo Chengxuan, help me peel the shrimp.”

Gu Yunsheng calmly gave him instructions. At the same time, she had already started kneading dough.

Huo Chengxuan paused for a moment and looked at her, but he still walked over obediently and began peeling the shrimp.

By the time the dough was ready, the shrimp had already been peeled.

To maintain a better texture, Gu Yunsheng used the back of a knife to mince the shrimp into a paste.

She also chopped some pork and mixed it with the shrimp paste. Then she cracked in two eggs and added salt, sesame oil, starch, and soy sauce, stirring everything clockwise.

Since the dough still needed time to rest, Gu Yunsheng searched the kitchen and found some pepper powder.

Her eyes immediately lit up.

Pepper powder was the perfect seasoning for wontons.

With visible delight, she added a little pepper powder into the filling and then began rolling out the wrappers.

From Huo Chengxuan’s perspective, however, this scene was astonishing.

All this time, it seemed he had never truly understood her.

Her movements were smooth and skillful. It was obvious she had plenty of experience, something he never would have expected.

“What are you making?” he asked.

Gu Yunsheng glanced at him and smiled.

“Fresh shrimp wontons. Go ask if Dad, Mom, and Wan’er want some.”

Huo Chengxuan looked at her as she busily worked and shook his head.

“No need. You can just eat it yourself.”

Gu Yunsheng paused.

So he asked for nothing. Could it be that he was worried she might poison them?

After finishing the wonton wrappers, she boiled water in a pot.

She held a wrapper in one hand and picked up a filling with chopsticks in the other.

Her speed was astonishing.

The filling dropped onto the wrapper. With a quick pinch of her fingers, a wonton was formed and tossed into the pot.

In just a short moment, more than a dozen wontons had already been dropped into the boiling water.
