Gu Yunsheng’s level of skill left not only Huo Chengxuan stunned, but even Huo’s mother, who had just entered the kitchen, staring in surprise.

Gu Yunsheng was not worried about being suspected.

After all, she had never said she did not know how to cook. Besides, the Huo Family had always had a housekeeper. Why would she need to cook herself?Full novel: 1970s: The Charming Pregnant Beauty Tames the Bigshot — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Although Huo Chengxuan had said they did not want any, Gu Yunsheng still prepared a bowl of wontons for everyone.

Whether they ate them or not was up to them.

Huo’s mother looked at the freshly made wontons and instantly felt her appetite stir.

Thinking about the food she had cooked earlier made her feel somewhat embarrassed.

Gu Yunsheng stepped forward and wrapped her arm around Huo’s mother’s arm, then said to Huo Chengxuan behind her,

“Huo Chengxuan, help me carry these out. Mom, you should try some too.”

Huo’s mother pursed her lips and nodded.

“Alright. Shengsheng is really amazing to have such cooking skills.”

When Huo Zhenguo saw the wontons being brought out, even though he already felt full, he still swallowed instinctively.

Only Wan’er, though clearly tempted, forced herself to say,

“Hmph. Who knows if she’s really being kind. What if she drugged it again like before?”

“Wan’er, where are your manners?” Huo Chengxuan glanced at her and spoke coldly.

Seeing that her brother was angry, Wan’er snorted at Gu Yunsheng’s seductive-looking face and turned her head away.

At that moment, Gu Yunsheng paid no attention to anyone else. Her eyes were fixed entirely on the bowl of wontons in front of her.

“I’m starting to eat now.”

Gu Yunsheng took her first bite.

The wonton wrapper was as thin as a cicada’s wing. Once bitten open, the savory aroma of the filling instantly filled her mouth with a satisfying chewiness.

After drinking a spoonful of the broth, the freshness was so rich that Gu Yunsheng could not help sighing in delight, her heart filled with contentment.

Sure enough, only good food must never be wasted.

Seeing Gu Yunsheng’s satisfied expression stirred an unfamiliar feeling in Huo Chengxuan’s heart. Calmly, he picked up his spoon.

A moment later, he scooped up a wonton and placed it in his mouth, his movements elegant as though he were tasting a rare delicacy.

He then took another spoonful of soup and drank it.

Huo Chengxuan continued eating several more bites, unhurried and composed.

Huo’s mother asked him how the wontons tasted.

At that moment, Huo Chengxuan was too busy eating to answer. By the time he finished the entire bowl, he looked at the untouched wontons in front of Wan’er.

“Wan’er, are you sure you’re not eating?”

Wan’er turned her head, glanced at Gu Yunsheng, then at their parents who were quietly enjoying their food. Smelling the enticing aroma, she quickly grabbed a spoon and began eating.

The wonton wrappers were thin and smooth. One bite released the tender and savory filling that filled her entire mouth, while the broth was light and naturally sweet, instantly awakening her taste buds.

Before she knew it, Wan’er had eaten several more.

“Shengsheng, these wontons are really delicious,” Huo’s mother said happily.

Wan’er raised her head and noticed her brother staring at the bowl in front of her.

She quickly lowered her head and kept eating.

At the same time she felt surprised.

Her character might be terrible and a bit malicious, but there was no denying her cooking skills.

“Mm, not bad,” Huo Zhenguo said as he finished his bowl, nodding in approval.

Gu Yunsheng smiled.

“I’m glad Dad and Mom like them.”

“Hmph. Don’t think making one delicious meal will buy me over,” Wan’er said stubbornly.

Of course, Gu Yunsheng had never intended to please her. She had only been cooking for her own stomach.

After the meal, Huo’s mother cautiously asked,

“Shengsheng, Chengxuan, what have you two decided?”

Although Huo Zhenguo still seemed to be savoring the taste of the wontons, his eyes also turned toward them the moment the question was asked.

His daughter-in-law seemed to have changed a lot, and the relationship between his son and daughter-in-law appeared to have improved. Still, until he heard it directly, he could not feel completely certain.

Wan’er also pricked up her ears and listened carefully.

“Dad, Mom, I will go to the countryside with you.”

Gu Yunsheng looked at Huo’s mother and Huo Zhenguo with utmost seriousness, then added apologetically,

“Dad, Mom, I behaved badly before. When I suddenly learned we were going to the countryside and then found out I was pregnant, I became worried and caused trouble.”

“But now I’ve thought it through. As long as you are all here, I believe the baby will be fine and we will overcome anything.”

As Gu Yunsheng spoke, the guilt and uneasiness on her face appeared completely genuine. Huo’s mother felt her heart ache just watching.

“Shengsheng, how could that be considered causing trouble? It’s the Huo Family that has wronged you.”

Huo’s mother wiped her tears as she spoke.

“Child, don’t worry. As long as your father and I are here, we won’t let you and the baby suffer.”

“Yes,” Huo Zhenguo said firmly. “Your mother is right. We won’t let you suffer.”

“That’s right, Shengsheng,” Huo’s mother added warmly. “You have Chengxuan, your father and me, and your younger sister. With so many of us, we can certainly take care of you. After going to the countryside, just focus on resting and nurturing the baby. Everything else will be the same as before. You don’t need to worry about anything.”

Hearing this made Gu Yunsheng almost want to crawl into a hole from embarrassment.

The original owner had done nothing except eat, sleep, and go shopping.

Calling her a pig would not even be an exaggeration.

Gu Yunsheng truly did not know what to say.

The original owner had actually lived quite a fortunate life.

The whole family had practically no expectations for her and even indulged her.

However, this suited Gu Yunsheng just fine.

Other than food, she had little interest in anything else.

Wan’er, however, could not tolerate it any longer. She felt as if her lungs were about to explode with anger.

“Mom!”

“You’re marrying a daughter-in-law, not bringing home an ancestor!”

Before Huo’s mother could respond, Huo Zhenguo’s face darkened and he scolded her directly.

“Wan’er, given our family’s situation now, your sister-in-law is pregnant and still willing to go to the countryside with us. Shouldn’t we take care of her?”

“But—”

“No buts!” he interrupted sharply. “Your sister-in-law is pregnant. Do you expect her to serve you?”

The family had already fallen into such circumstances and their future looked uncertain. For their daughter-in-law to make this decision now meant they should feel grateful.

Seeing the anger on her father’s face, Wan’er did not dare argue anymore.

She could only sit there sulking as she watched her brother attentively ask,

“Are you full? Is there anything else you want to eat?”

“I’m full. Are you full? If you want more, I can make it for you,” Gu Yunsheng replied.

Huo Chengxuan paused.

Although he did want more, he still shook his head.

Seeing this scene made Wan’er feel dizzy.

This woman was truly impressive.

A single bowl of wontons, a few kind words, and a pitiful expression had not only charmed their parents but even fooled her brother.

She still refused to believe it.

How could someone possibly change overnight?

Besides, who knew whether the pregnancy was even real?

Hmph.

Gu Yunsheng noticed Wan’er’s expression.

But she was not worried.

In the novel, Wan’er was someone with a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Otherwise, she would not have felt too embarrassed to drive the original owner away, which eventually led to the original owner climbing into her brother’s bed.

Thinking about the fate that awaited this young girl in the story made Gu Yunsheng feel a bit sorry for her.
