Xia Wan’s expression darkened.

Looking at Xiao Yan’s face and the weapons they were carrying, she realized that they probably wouldn’t just let her escape they were likely ready to use deadly force.

Xia Wan clenched her fists in front of her chest, taking a defensive stance, prepared to face whatever attack came.Full novel: 1980s Military Marriage After Toppling Her In-Laws Her Husband Came Back from the Dead — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“If we can’t escape, protect your vital points, and then… pray for the best.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Xiao Yan made a hand signal.

His men swung toward the two of them.

They glared furiously, gripping their steel pipes tightly and swinging with all their strength.

Ji Yuanchuan, scared, hugged his head, but still ran beside Xia Wan, trying to shield her from all harm.

Xia Wan, however, kicked one of the thugs in the soft stomach. The thug staggered backward with the impact.

She then teleported behind him, elbowed him, and delivered a strong kick, knocking him out cold.

Swiftly, Xia Wan snatched the steel pipe from his hands and started striking the surrounding men.

Xiao Yan, who had been lounging casually to watch the show, could no longer maintain his smile when he saw Xia Wan’s skills.

All of his men were knocked down by her, and not a single one of them landed a hit on her!

“Are you okay?”

Ji Yuanchuan, holding his head, saw all the thugs around them fallen. Still a little dazed, he looked at Xia Wan and smiled sheepishly: “Comrade Xia, it’s good you’re safe! Who was the hero that helped?”

He looked left and right, but saw no one else.

“Could it… be you?”

Hearing the disbelief in Ji Yuanchuan’s voice, Xia Wan felt a bit indignant.

“What? Looking down on women?”

Ji Yuanchuan’s head bobbed like a rattle.

“Of course not! Great men have said women hold up half the sky I would never underestimate a woman.”

Xia Wan was about to retort when Xiao Yan didn’t give her the chance.

Seeing all his men knocked down, Xiao Yan angrily grabbed a steel pipe from the ground and threw it at Xia Wan.

Xia Wan saw the pipe coming toward her, and the world seemed to slow down. She could clearly see its trajectory and was ready to grab it but suddenly, a pair of hands appeared in front of her and firmly caught the pipe.

Even Xia Wan was startled by the sudden appearance.

“Are you human or ghost?”

The man looked at the pipe in his hands, then glanced at Ji Yuanchuan beside him. In a deep, magnetic voice, he said: “I’m your husband.”

Xia Wan saw the man from her marriage certificate right in front of her. Even though she knew he wasn’t dead, his sudden appearance startled her.

Ji Yuanchuan got up from the ground and moved beside Xia Wan, worried: “Comrade Xia, are you okay? I wasn’t paying attention just now, or I would have blocked that for you. I don’t even know how we angered them coming after you multiple times like this.”

Ji Yuanchuan then turned to Lu Jingxing, looking at him in full military uniform, eyes filled with admiration, and spoke seriously: “Comrade, thank you for intervening just now.”

Lu Jingxing frowned, saying nothing, and instead looked at Xia Wan: “What’s your relationship with him?”

Before Xia Wan could answer, Ji Yuanchuan spoke quickly: “Comrade, don’t worry we acted properly. Nothing inappropriate happened!”

Xia Wan heard his seemingly clarifying words only making things worse, so she quickly explained: “I was on my way to take an exam, and these thugs blocked the alley to stop me. He saved me. So I treated him to a meal.”

Hearing this, Lu Jingxing’s brow furrowed deeply.

“They bullied you?”

Xia Wan shook her head: “Not exactly the chance.”

“How did you get involved with them?”

“I don’t know. Maybe you can ask your sister.”

Hearing this exchange, Ji Yuanchuan suddenly realized: “Oh, you two know each other? I thought this comrade suspected us of impropriety. Turns out, you just care about Comrade Xia. Is this your older brother?”

Xia Wan twitched her lips, pointing to Lu Jingxing: “This is my husband, Lu Jingxing.”

Ignoring Ji Yuanchuan’s increasingly shocked expression, she looked at Lu Jingxing: “This is Ji Yuanchuan, the man who saved me today.”

Lu Jingxing looked at Ji Yuanchuan seriously and extended his hand: “Thank you for saving my wife.”

Ji Yuanchuan immediately shook his hand, feeling the strength of the soldier in front of him. His face turned red.

After retracting his hand, he instinctively hid it behind his back.

Seeing this childish behavior, Xia Wan looked at Lu Jingxing with disdain.

He had joined the military right after marriage and hadn’t called home once, and now he suddenly came to assert authority?

Xia Wan looked around.

While they were talking, the thugs had already gotten up and fled with Xiao Yan.

Lu Jingxing observed Xia Wan, noticing she seemed to have changed a lot since he left.

Not only had her timid gaze turned firm, but her skills had also improved.

“You don’t need to worry about those men. I’ll deal with them.”

Xia Wan, familiar with the script, knew he had been promoted.

“Then I’ll leave it to you. Let’s go home first.”

Xia Wan used “we,” and Lu Jingxing raised an eyebrow.

His gaze landed on Ji Yuanchuan: “Comrade Ji, where do you live?”

Ji Yuanchuan immediately understood, smiled awkwardly: “Since Comrade Xia’s husband is here, I won’t see you off.”

Xia Wan nodded: “Yes, you can go. I’ll go help you ask around tomorrow.”

“Alright, thank you. I’ll leave now!”

Ji Yuanchuan looked at Xia Wan reluctantly, his eyes full of unwillingness, then slunk away.

“Let’s go, I’ll walk you back.”

Lu Jingxing tried to reach for her hand, but she naturally dodged.

Seeing her reflexive move, Lu Jingxing withdrew his hand and walked beside her.

He noticed her dark expression, and even he, bold as he was, became cautious.

Was she angry at him?

Was it because he hadn’t contacted home since joining the military?

Lu Jingxing wanted to apologize but saw her heading toward her former residence.

“You’re going the wrong way. Didn’t we move?”

Xia Wan stopped and coldly looked at him: “I’m not wrong. My home is here; your home is there. If you don’t understand, ask your mother or sister.”

She turned and walked straight into the building.

Lu Jingxing followed immediately: “What do you mean by this? Explain yourself!”

Xia Wan stopped, turned to the handsome man in uniform, and said: “I’m saying, Lu Jingxing, let’s get a divorce.”
