“What did you say?”

Lu Jingxing’s expression froze, staring at Xia Wan in disbelief.

“This should probably be reported to your superior, right? Well, I’ll leave it to you. If you don’t want to, then… fine. It won’t affect me anyway.”Full novel: 1980s Military Marriage After Toppling Her In-Laws Her Husband Came Back from the Dead — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

With that, Xia Wan went straight upstairs.

Lu Jingxing stood silently, only hearing her footsteps fade away in the hallway.

At that moment, a young-looking boy with a straight posture came running up to him and saluted: “Boss, I’ve already checked. Those thugs from earlier were paid by someone to make trouble for your wife. I’ve already warned them they won’t dare bother her again.”

He looked around eagerly he hadn’t even seen this “wife” in person yet!

If she could make the boss obsess over her like this, she must be a true beauty!

“Have you escorted her home? What did she say?”

He didn’t notice the increasingly dark expression on Lu Jingxing’s face.

“She said… she wants a divorce.”

“What! Your wife wants a divorce because of that man?”

Lu Jingxing calmed himself and shook his head: “It probably has nothing to do with that man surnamed Ji. Li Zhen, continue with the original plan I need to go home first.”

Li Zhen nodded seriously: “Boss, don’t worry. Maybe it’s because you’ve been away on missions for a year and haven’t contacted home, so your wife is angry at you. You just need to pacify her.”

Lu Jingxing grunted in acknowledgment.

Based on his understanding of Xia Wan, she wasn’t the type to act so capriciously.

Thinking about the two people at home gave him a headache.

He had assumed she only married him under his mother’s pressure, so even if he wasn’t home, she shouldn’t make things too difficult.

Xia Wan had married him out of gratitude. She wouldn’t ask for a divorce unless absolutely necessary.

It seemed he had underestimated his mother’s temperament.

He looked toward Xia Wan’s home.

She must have been forced out of the Lu family, which was why she had no choice but to live here!

Lu Jingxing sat downstairs for a while, his face dark, then returned home alone.

It was late at night, and the surroundings were quiet.

He knocked hard on the door, and a voice from inside yelled:

“Why are you knocking in the middle of the night? Can’t it wait until tomorrow?”

When the door opened and Yang Shufen saw his familiar face, she let out a piercing scream and immediately fainted.

Lu Jingxing didn’t expect his mother to react like this.

“Mom, are you done scaring everyone? Yelling in the middle of the night soon the neighbors will start complaining!”

Lu Hongmei yawned as she walked out.

When she saw Lu Jingxing, she swallowed the words she had meant to say, and although she didn’t scream, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted straight backward.

Lu Jingxing’s expression darkened further.

“What exactly did you do to Xia Wan that you’re so afraid to see me?”

He stepped inside and found the house empty, frozen in place.

The neighbors who had heard Yang Shufen’s scream came over when they heard the noise.

When one uncle screamed upon seeing Lu Jingxing, he finally relaxed.

When Xia Wan saw Lu Jingxing heading to her home, she had already anticipated this scene.

She thought it would be entertaining and didn’t want to miss it, so she followed.

She smirked as she looked at the two people lying on the ground and reassured the panicking uncle:

“Uncle, he’s alive. Don’t be scared.”

The uncle patted his chest nervously: “What on earth happened?”

Yang Shufen slowly regained consciousness, dazed at what she saw.

Xia Wan pulled Lu Jingxing aside and walked up to Yang Shufen, squatting down and speaking softly: “Former mother-in-law, are you awake?”

Yang Shufen, seeing Xia Wan, seemed to have found a lifeline: “Daughter-in-law! You don’t know what I just saw! I was scared to death!”

Xia Wan smirked and pointed behind her: “You mean him?”

Yang Shufen looked in that direction.

Lu Jingxing stood there with a grim expression, as if he had crawled out of hell.

Yang Shufen’s mouth opened in shock, but she couldn’t make a sound. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted again.

Xia Wan smiled in satisfaction and stood up, walking over to Lu Jingxing.

“Not sure who sent the news that you were dead. We even received your death compensation.”

Lu Jingxing looked at her with a complicated expression.

He had been so angry when he saw her before, but seeing his mother faint from fright made him a bit amused.

The old Xia Wan wouldn’t have been so cheeky; she was always careful.

Now, however, she had the liveliness of a real person.

Xia Wan put away her smile and crossed her arms: “What’s the matter? Scared stiff too?”

Lu Jingxing’s icy expression softened slightly, a small smile forming: “Indeed. I didn’t expect you to change so much in over a year. It’s my fault as your husband; I reflect on it.”

Xia Wan was surprised to see him self-reflect.

But if they didn’t divorce, how would the romantic storyline with the female protagonist proceed?

Xia Wan studied him carefully.

His chiseled face, sharp brows, cold features, and penetrating eyes stared straight at her.

Facing such scrutiny, she felt a bit guilty and lowered her gaze.

“I just came because I didn’t want you to scare the neighbors. Now that everything’s fine, I’ll leave.”

Lu Jingxing nodded gently: “Okay. You go rest. I’ll handle things here and then come to discuss it with you properly.”

Xia Wan nodded softly and walked away.

More neighbors had gathered around.

Someone had spread the news that Lu Jingxing had returned, and people had come to see what was happening.

Xia Wan pushed through the crowd and saw Su Lijuan staring in shock at Lu Jingxing a short distance away.

It seemed she hadn’t expected him to return so early in this life.

Not only had her encounter with her ex-husband changed, but Lu Jingxing had also returned ahead of time.

Now, seeing Lu Jingxing alive, Su Lijuan felt frustrated!

Her timing in this rebirth was still too late!

She hadn’t even begun her plans yet.

In comparison, Xia Wan was even more dazzling than in the previous life.

How could Su Lijuan compete for Lu Jingxing’s attention now?

Seeing Xia Wan walk out, she lifted her head arrogantly: “Xia Wan, you’ve already cut ties with the Lu family! Even if he’s not dead, you still…”

Xia Wan quickly interrupted: “Don’t worry, I’ll divorce him. He’s no longer worthy of me.”

With that, Xia Wan glared at Su Lijuan and Lu Jingxing, then turned and walked away without looking back.

Su Lijuan let out a sigh of relief.

She had been worried that Lu Jingxing might return early, but Xia Wan knew he had been promoted and would certainly hold on tightly.

Now, Xia Wan had already set her sights on the seemingly wealthy Ji Yuanchuan.

Su Lijuan sneered: “Xia Wan, by the time you realize Ji Yuanchuan is just a poor guy, I’ll already be living a good life in the capital with Jingxing!”
