As soon as Xia Wan left, Su Lijuan squeezed into the house with a smile.

“Jingxing, you actually came back! I…”

Before she could finish, Lu Jingxing waved everyone including Su Lijuan out of the door.Full novel: 1980s Military Marriage After Toppling Her In-Laws Her Husband Came Back from the Dead — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Sorry everyone, we have some private matters to handle today. As for the rumors about my death, I’ll investigate them first and explain everything later.”

The crowd dispersed reluctantly, but Su Lijuan lingered, unwilling to leave.

She was about to step forward when the Lu family gate was ruthlessly shut in her face by Lu Jingxing.

His attitude toward her was no different than toward ordinary neighbors.

He had even smiled at Xia Wan just moments ago…

Su Lijuan ground her teeth in fury. “Why does it always have to be Xia Wan! Every single time she ruins my plans!”

Sulking, she left the Lu residence but didn’t go home. Instead, she sought out Xiao Yan and his gang.

Xiao Yan sat on the side, grimacing as a subordinate applied medicine to his face.

The entire group was covered in bruises, clearly having been in a fight.

“What happened to you all?”

Seeing Su Lijuan arrive, Xiao Yan’s anger flared immediately.

“You dare to ask? Why didn’t you say that woman’s husband is a soldier? He called a subordinate and beat all of us up! That woman isn’t easy to mess with either! We didn’t make any money, but we sure spent plenty on medical bills!”

Seeing the fire in Xiao Yan’s eyes, Su Lijuan forced a conciliatory smile. “Relax, little brother. I’ll pay for the medical bills. Can you do me one more favor?”

Xiao Yan shook his head immediately. “Forget it! We can’t mess with that woman. Her husband’s subordinates are all strong, and he himself could probably flatten us with a single finger! We’re just a bunch of aimless punks.”

Su Lijuan’s smile faltered.

“You don’t need to go after Xia Wan. This time, go after Ji Yuanchuan instead. He’s just a scholar never served in the army, can’t fight. I’ll give you another ten bucks. How’s that?”

Mentioning Ji Yuanchuan immediately piqued Xiao Yan’s interest.

“That soft guy who just curls up and takes a beating?”

“Yes. While he’s around us, make sure to rough him up. If you do a good job, I’ll give you another five bucks on top of that.”

“Deal! But I’m warning you, if Xia Wan’s around, I’m not touching her. That woman’s got skills.”

Su Lijuan looked at Xiao Yan in disbelief.

“Are you really saying you got beaten silly by Jingxing’s subordinates? Xia Wan could actually flatten all of you!”

Seeing the bruises on their faces, she realized just how formidable Lu Jingxing’s subordinates must be. If she married Jingxing in the future, she could feel completely safe with him by her side.

Hearing Su Lijuan’s words, Xiao Yan and his gang instinctively clutched their stomachs.

The pain from being hit by Xia Wan earlier was still there she had clearly applied some technique; while it didn’t look bad externally, it hurt deep inside.

By contrast, the injuries from Lu Jingxing’s subordinates didn’t hurt much anymore.

Su Lijuan took fifteen bucks from her bag and handed it to Xiao Yan.

“Ten bucks for today’s hard work, and five bucks as a deposit for what’s coming next. Once Ji Yuanchuan can’t take it and leaves, I’ll give you another ten.”

Xiao Yan happily accepted it and handed a bouquet of flowers from the side to Su Lijuan.

“Thanks, boss. These are for you.”

Su Lijuan looked at the familiar flowers in surprise. “Where did these come from?”

Xiao Yan shrugged. “Found them on the roadside today. Don’t know which idiot left them there, probably didn’t want them.”

Su Lijuan stared at the bouquet in disbelief, forcing a smile. “Didn’t want them? The flowers I gave him… and he actually… threw them away?”

Xiao Yan tilted his head curiously. “You gave them?”

Su Lijuan glared at him venomously. “Mind your own business. Remember, next time you see Ji Yuanchuan, beat him up properly!”

She left in a rage.

A few steps later, she angrily smashed the flowers on the ground and stomped on them a few times.

She looked toward the residential compound, her eyes filled with hatred.

“If Heaven has arranged for me to be reborn, then I am the protagonist of this story! Why must someone who should have died in a previous life always have the upper hand? Xia Wan, I want you dead!”

At that moment, a clap of thunder resounded from the sky.

Xia Wan, sitting at her desk flipping through books, shivered involuntarily.

She walked to the window to close it but saw a familiar figure standing not far below.

The other person raised his head and looked up at her.

Their eyes met, and Lu Jingxing gave her a bright, cheerful smile.

Xia Wan kept a cold expression, ignoring him completely, and closed the window, drawing the curtains tightly.

This man really was like someone resurrected from hell relentless!

Frustrated, Xia Wan tossed aside her study materials and lay down for a nap.

When she opened her eyes, there was a faint knock on the door.

Sleepy, she got up and opened it. The smell of freshly fried dough sticks wafted in.

Her stomach rumbled in response.

Lu Jingxing’s tall figure blocked the doorway, one hand resting on the frame with considerable strength she couldn’t close the door even if she tried.

“What’s going on?”

He waved the breakfast he had bought: “I got breakfast. Come, let’s sit and eat together.”

She wanted to say she wasn’t hungry, but her stomach had already betrayed her, leaving no excuse she had to let him in.

After all, they were still legally married.

Lu Jingxing laid out a sumptuous breakfast, all her favorite foods.

“I didn’t know what you liked, so I got what I like. Pick what you like, or tell me your favorites, and next time I’ll bring them for you.”

Xia Wan picked up a dough stick and bit into it. “No need. When will you report the divorce to your superior? I’m about to take the college entrance exam and go to university, so I don’t want to delay it too long.”

Lu Jingxing took a bite of a bun and nodded with satisfaction. “Mm, this bun still tastes the same. Eat more. Nutrition helps your mind stay sharp for better studying.”

Xia Wan raised an eyebrow at the man pretending to be oblivious. “My mind’s perfectly clear. I want a divorce.”

He placed a bun in her bowl, looking at her earnestly: “If you want to continue studying, I’ll support you not just emotionally, but financially too. But if you want a divorce, I don’t agree.”

Xia Wan laughed at him. “When we got married, you were completely against it. Now that I want a divorce, you’re opposing it?”

Lu Jingxing’s gaze was serious. “Back then, I thought carefully. I knew you married me out of gratitude, and we had no emotional foundation, so I opposed it. But now that we’re married, I will take responsibility for you fully.”
