Jiang Feng stood at the door. When he saw her, his face lit up with a smile. “Zhizhi…”

Shen Nanzhi glanced at him coldly, her tone full of annoyance.

“Jiang Feng, can’t you understand human language? I’ve already said it—I’d rather die than marry you! If you keep pestering me, don’t blame me for being rude!”Full novel: 1980s: Orphan Girl Marries Childless Military Officer, Childhood Sweetheart Loses It — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After speaking, Shen Nanzhi swung the long electric baton in her hand and struck Jiang Feng hard.

“Ah!”

Caught off guard, Jiang Feng was hit and staggered backward several steps.

Clutching his numbed stomach, the smile vanished from his face, replaced by pain.

He looked up in disbelief, glaring at Shen Nanzhi, and shouted angrily, “Shen Nanzhi, are you crazy? Why are you hitting me?”

That questioning tone and furious expression instantly reminded Shen Nanzhi of the scene in the hospital room before her death in her previous life.

It triggered her nerves, and an indescribable hatred surged in her heart. Like she had lost control, she kept swinging the baton, striking Jiang Feng again and again.

“Stop harassing me! I’ll beat you to death!”

She shouted as she hit him, as if venting all the resentment from her past life.

Jiang Feng was electrocuted to the point he couldn’t move, only able to let out miserable screams.

By the time others reacted and rushed forward to pull Shen Nanzhi away, he had already collapsed on the ground, barely breathing.

Everyone was shocked and hurriedly carried Jiang Feng to the hospital.

Shen Nanzhi stood where she was, staring blankly in the direction he was taken, a faint, cold smile curling at her lips.

All the suppression since her rebirth was released in that moment, leaving her feeling extremely relieved.

She took a deep breath of fresh air, turned back to her room, changed into clean clothes, washed up, and went to have breakfast.

In the dining room, steaming porridge gave off an inviting aroma.

Shen Nanzhi sat down and ate calmly, as if nothing had happened.

Aunt Wang hurried into the dining room. Seeing Shen Nanzhi acting as if it had nothing to do with her, she couldn’t help but scold her.

“Nanzhi, how could you be so heartless? Commander Jiang and Jiang Feng treat you so well, yet you could actually hit him!”

Shen Nanzhi ignored her and continued eating, as if Aunt Wang’s words were nothing but air.

Seeing her like this, Aunt Wang became even angrier and shouted, “Nanzhi, are you deaf? Didn’t you hear me talking to you?”

Shen Nanzhi finished the last mouthful of porridge, stood up, and left the dining room.

Her movements were elegant and composed, as if Aunt Wang’s anger had no effect on her.

Aunt Wang was both angry and helpless, following behind her and continuing to nag.

But Shen Nanzhi acted as if she hadn’t heard anything. She walked straight to the living room and picked up a piece of paper to wipe the corner of her mouth.

The rough texture made her lips sting slightly, and she inhaled sharply.

A maid in the corridor saw this and sneered, mocking her, “Serves you right!”

Shen Nanzhi ignored it, cleared her throat, and said loudly, “Aunt Wang, I heard everything you said, but Jiang Feng doesn’t listen to what I say.”

Her voice was loud enough for people in the yard to hear, and they gathered around.

This was exactly what she wanted.

She continued, “Three days ago, I made it very clear to him that I’m already married to Xiangyang. There’s no way I would marry him or register with him. But he wouldn’t listen—he’s been pestering me for three days. You all saw it. I told him again last night, and he still came this morning.

Everyone ended up thinking I was playing hard to get, deliberately stringing him along. I had no choice but to be ruthless, so Jiang Feng—and all of you—would understand that I truly don’t want to marry him.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the murmuring in the corridor abruptly stopped.

“But you still shouldn’t have beaten him like that,” Aunt Wang said worriedly. “Madam Jiang won’t let you off.”

Jiang Feng’s parents had never liked Shen Nanzhi.

Especially his mother, who practically wished Shen Nanzhi dead and would make a big deal out of even the smallest issue.

Now that Jiang Feng had been beaten into the hospital, she definitely wouldn’t let it go.

Shen Nanzhi knew this, but since it was already done, there was no turning back.

She looked at Aunt Wang. “What am I afraid of? He’s the one who kept harassing me. If Madam Jiang truly cared about her son, she would have stopped him long ago. I’m going to work.”

Pushing her bicycle, Shen Nanzhi hadn’t even reached the gate when a sharp, furious shout cut through the air.

“Shen Nanzhi, you bitch!”

She looked up to see Jiang Feng’s mother, dressed in a floral dress, storming toward her.

Her well-maintained face was now filled with rage and hatred, as if it would swallow Shen Nanzhi whole.

As the leader of a performing troupe, Jiang’s mother usually cared deeply about her image. Though in her forties, she looked barely in her thirties.

But now, all her elegance was gone, replaced by overwhelming fury.

Her blazing eyes seemed ready to burn Shen Nanzhi to ashes.

“You dare hit my son!” she shouted, grabbing the bicycle handle and shaking it violently. “I’ll beat you to death today!”

Shen Nanzhi steadied the bicycle, her gaze icy as she looked straight at her.

A slight, mocking smile appeared on her lips.

“He brought it on himself. I told him many times I would never marry him, but he wouldn’t listen and kept harassing me. I only acted for his sake and for your family’s reputation.”

Jiang’s mother’s face turned ashen as she gritted her teeth. “Afeng doesn’t even like you! If his grandfather hadn’t forced him, he wouldn’t even glance at you!”

Pfft!

Shen Nanzhi couldn’t help but laugh.

“Aunt Jiang, for the past three days, Jiang Feng has been publicly begging me to register our marriage. Everyone saw it. If you don’t believe me, ask them.”

Jiang’s mother’s face instantly turned pale. Of course she knew about Jiang Feng begging for marriage.

She had always controlled Shen Nanzhi and assumed she wouldn’t embarrass her in public, which was why she spoke like that.

She never expected Shen Nanzhi to show her no respect.

“Bitch! Still daring to spout nonsense!”

Enraged, Jiang’s mother raised her hand to slap Shen Nanzhi.

Shen Nanzhi tilted her head and dodged.

A cold glint flashed in her eyes. She twisted the bicycle handle, and the front wheel slammed into Jiang’s mother.

Though it didn’t hurt much, Jiang’s mother still cried out.

Furious, she pointed at Shen Nanzhi and cursed, “Shen Nanzhi, you even dare hit me—you ungrateful wretch!”

Before she could finish, Shen Nanzhi slapped her hard across the face.

Caught off guard, Jiang’s mother felt a burning pain on her cheek and froze.

“You… you dare hit me?”

She clutched her face, staring at Shen Nanzhi in disbelief.

Shen Nanzhi sneered, her eyes full of contempt and provocation. “If I hit you, I hit you. Do I need to pick a date?”

The onlookers were stunned, unable to believe that Shen Nanzhi had actually slapped Jiang’s mother, silently mourning her fate for three seconds.
